Karna Kadur maintains pace to extend lead in APRC
Chennai, Apr 26 (UNI) Bengaluru ace Karna Kadur came up with a mature drive to open a sizable lead in the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship promoted by Vamcy Merla which is part of the Indu Chandhok Memorial 48th South India Rally, here on Saturday.
With only four Special Stages to be run on the morrow, Kadur and his co-driver Musa Sherif have victory in their sights.
Kadur leads his Arka Motorsports team-mate and the Delhi-Himachal Pradesh combination of Harkrishan Wadia and Kunal Kashyap by over a minute.
In third place is their team-mate and former National champion Amittrajit Ghosh (Ashwin Naik) who nursed his patched-up Volkswagen Polo, a late replacement for his Mahindra XUV 300 which blew
its engine during a test run a few days before the event.
In the INRC category of the Blueband Fmsci Indian National Rally Championship Round-1 powered by Vamcy Merla, Kadur leads Ghosh with Suhem Kabeer (Vinay Padmashali) in third spot.
About his performance today, Kadur said: 'I was a bit conservative in the first loop, especially the
first Special Stage (AAVISA) which had some small rocks on the road. In the second run, I did not hold back since I knew the terrain would have been swept clean by the cars. So, I was able to make over a minute on my own time. Tomorrow is another day, but I will try to hold position and push only
if I must. The main goal is to bring the car home in one piece.'
Two of the front-runners in the APRC, Jason Saldanha and Chetan Shivram had issues with their respective cars and lost time that saw them drop down the order. The other big disappointment
was the retirement of Hyundai i20 which is making its debut in the Indian motorsports scene with Hyderabad's Jeet Jhabakh packing up with a driveshaft problem but he is likely to rejoin the rally
on Sunday, if the car is fully repaired.
Meanwhile, the competition in the National championship was as razor sharp as ever with positions changing by the minute while Bengaluru-based Tarushi Vikram displayed impressive pace to lead
the Women INRC class.

Rupnagar, June 30 (UNI) Hailing from Rupnagar town, Teghbir Singh sets the world record by scaling Mount Elbrus located in Russia at a staggering height of more than 18510 ft (5642 Meters). At a tender age of 6 years and 9 months, Teghbir Singh, has achieved a remarkable feat – he has become the youngest ever in the world to scale the Mount Elbrus which is highest peak of European continent and located in Russia at a staggering height of more than 18510ft (5642 Meters). Teghbir started the Trek to Mount Elbrus on June 20 and walked all along to reach the Elbrus peak, highest point of the mountain, on 28 June. It is worth mentioning here that it is a low Oxygen trek and one needs preparation to tackle problems associated with Altitude Sickness. However, conquering all these challenges, he finally reached the summit, normal temperature of which is -10 Celsius, and fulfilled his dream. After conquering the peak, he received the Mountain Climbing Certificate issued by Mountaineering, Rock Climbing and Sports Tourism Federation of Kabardino - Balkarian Republik (Russia ). "It is to certify that Teghbir Singh from India, The world's Youngest Sumiter on Mount Elbrus at age of 6 Years, 9 Months and 4 days" states the certificate. Elated over the achievement, Teghbir said, "I knew where I was to reach and finally, I reached and had a picture with my father there". "I was walking first time on snow, my shoes were heavy, but I had practiced it back'added the 2nd standard student of Shiwalik Public School, Ropar. With this feat he sets the new World record of summiting Mt Elbrus at age 6 years and 9 months surpassing the previous world record by Wagah Kushagra (Native of Maharashtra, India) who set the world record last year at the age of 7 Years and 3 months. In August 2024, he had become the youngest Asian to scale Mt Kilimanjaro (Highest Peak of African Continent) in August 2024 and his name features in the Asia Book of records and India Book of records. Aarit talented enough to become another Gukesh: Coach Sareen
New Delhi, June 29 (UNI) Nine-year-old Chess boy wonder Aarit Kapil, who recently held the legendary Magnus Carlsen to a draw in an online tournament, has the potential to reach the top in the game, says International Master (IM) Vishal Sareen. Aarit held Carlsen to a draw in an online blitz game at the 'Early Titled Tuesday' chess tournament on June 24. Besides holding the Norwegian great to a draw, Aarit is the youngest Indian and third youngest in the world to have defeated a Grand Master when he overcame veteran GM Raset Ziatdinov in the 15th KIIT International Chess Festival in Bhubaneswar in December 2024. The Delhi resident also won a silver at the Under 9 Chess nationals, a silver medal in both classical and rapid categories at the Under 8 Asian championships besides several other exploits at such a young age. Aarit's coach International Master (IM) Vishal Sareen describes him as the Sachin Tendulkar of Chess and says that he has the potential to reach the heights of D Gukesh, the reigning World Champion in the Classical format and R Praggnanandhaa, India's current number one player. "Aarit is the Sachin of Chess, the pace at which he picks up things is amazing, I think that going forward there will be no flaws in his game, he is just nine and is meant for very big things. He actually was in a very strong position against Carlsen. He was not overexcited after the match, and said that he wil beat him the next time, of course next time Magnus will be sharper and won't take him lightly, he can reach the level of Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa." Sareen points out that Chess is an expensive sport and without proper international exposure Aarit runs the risk of not reaching his full potential "I hope he gets a sponsor soon as Chess is an expensive sport, training modules, coaching all have high cost and for reaching one's full potential the player needs to compete at international events, so financial support is going to be crucial for him at the moment, which I hope he gets soon." Aarit's father Vijay who works as a Mutual Funds agent says that he has tried to support Aarit as much as possible but going forward it will be very difficult to sustain his training and participation in competitions without a sponsor. "Going abroad for tournaments needs a lot of money yet those tournaments are important in terms of his learning and world ranking is concerned, so I am looking for a sponsor for him right now." Vijay recounts Aarit's meteoric rise in Chess "He was five and a half when he started Chess, his elder sister Aarna taught him, after just one week of learning Chess he defeated me! I recognised that he had great potential we started his coaching. "Soon within a few weeks he registered for an online tournament which he won, he played a few online tournaments after that where he won, later he started winning offline tournaments and state level tournaments as well. He was second in the Under 7 nationals and went on to win Silver medal in both classical and rapid categories at the Under 8 Asian championships," he said. A Class V student of Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave, Aarit idolises Magnus Carlsen, says Vijay. 'He idolises him (Magnus) and was thrilled to face him, though he was not overawed by the situation, he was in a winning position against him but it ended in a draw." Deputy President of Asian Chess Federation Bharat Singh Chauhan was all praise for Aarit, calling him a resolute fighter, "Aarit is tactically very good and the thing that sets him apart is that he is a fighter who thinks about winning irrespective of the situation, his success again proves that we have very good junior players who are capable of beating anyone in the world," UNI RKM SSP
