Thai, Cambodian leaders set for peace talks at 3pm
Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet are scheduled to meet in Kuala Lumpur at 3pm local time (2pm Thailand time). The meeting will be at the office of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The first talks since clashes began on July 24 comes within 48 hours of US President Donald Trump saying Thai and Cambodian leaders had agreed to 'quickly work out a ceasefire.'
After separate calls with Mr Phumtham and Hun Manet on Saturday, Trump had threatened that Washington will not do a trade deal with either country as long as the fighting continued.
The conflict, which escalated from months of simmering border tension, has killed more than 30 people and displaced over 150,000 civilians on both sides. Thailand has reported 22 fatalities, including eight soldiers, while Cambodia has confirmed 13 deaths, including five military personnel

Cambodian 'spy' held near border
A Cambodian national suspected of espionage has been detained by Thai security forces near the eastern border in Chanthaburi province. According to a military intelligence source, personnel from the Marine Task Force in Chanthaburi invited Oeun Khoem, 43, for questioning at Pong Nam Ron police station on Tuesday. Immigration police and provincial police investigators also participated in the questioning. Oeun Khoem, holds a Cambodian passport and a valid Non-Immigrant L-A visa (specifically for workers in certain sectors). Records show he entered Thailand on March 12, with a visa valid until March 11, 2027. He had been residing at 301/1, Moo 1, tambon Thap Sai in Pong Nam Ron district, Chanthaburi. Authorities began an investigation after suspecting Oeun Khoem was a Cambodian military intelligence agent. Evidence against the suspect included a Facebook post by him that said: 'THAILAND ATTACKS FIRST, CAMBODIA DEFENDS,' along with photographs. Officials also discovered a Cambodian military uniform in his Mazda pickup truck and at his registered address. Although his passport and visa were valid, investigators confiscated his mobile phone for digital forensic examination. Under further questioning, he allegedly confessed to being a second lieutenant serving in Cambodia's intelligence unit. It was reported he was gathering information on Thai military activities in the Chanthaburi-Trat border area and transmitting the intel to the Cambodian army for operational purposes. Meanwhile, Traisuree Traisaranakul, a former Bhumjaithai Party MP for Si Sa Ket, one of the provinces affected by the Thai-Cambodian border clashes, warned that foreign spies are now posing as donors, bringing supplies to frontline villages near the border under the guise of humanitarian aid, while surveying GPS coordinates and deploying drones.

Opposition to submit urgent motion on trade talks with US
The opposition will this week submit an urgent motion involving trade negotiations with the United States and the border conflict with Cambodia following US President Donald Trump's call for a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. Pakornwut Udompipatsakul, a People's Party list-MP and chief opposition whip, said on Tuesday the planned motion concerns Mr Trump's move to link the ongoing trade talks between the US and Thailand to a resolution of the border conflict. The US president allegedly warned that the 36% tariff on certain Thai exports would remain non-negotiable if fighting continued and threatened to halt trade deals with both Thailand and Cambodia unless talks resumed. Mr Pakornwut said that the interconnection between the border issue and trade negotiations would be brought up in this week's House session. While a ceasefire has been agreed upon, he expressed concerns about its fragility and urged the military to prioritise the national interest and public safety. Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, effective from midnight Sunday, following high-level negotiations held in Malaysia, which is the Asean chair. Bilateral military meetings were scheduled on Tuesday, with a full meeting of the General Border Committee to take place in Phnom Penh on Monday. People's Party list-MP Parit Wacharasindhu on Tuesday urged the government to quickly communicate on two fronts after Cambodia reportedly violated the ceasefire agreement. He wrote on Facebook that the government must inform the international community that Thailand adhered to the ceasefire and only responded in self-defence. It must also clearly communicate to those in risk zones to ensure their safety, he added. Meanwhile, a senator on Tuesday floated an eight-point proposal, including declaring martial law in seven provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border, to give the armed forces full power to protect national sovereignty. The proposal, made by Lt Gen Sukij Thangthong before the Senate session started, included the shutdown of all border checkpoints, cutting utilities until the border situation returns to normal, suspending all energy exports, and severing diplomatic ties until boundary disputes are fully resolved. The Senate observed a minute's silence for those killed in the border clashes before approving an urgent motion proposed by Sen Gen Sawat Thassana to discuss assistance for communities affected by the border clashes. Thai govt tells the world Cambodia broke ceasefire agreement
The Thai government on Tuesday complained to the international community, accusing Cambodia of continued and indiscriminate attacks on Thai soil after their ceasefire agreement came in to effect at midnight. The government said in a statement on Tuesday that Cambodian military forces broke the ceasefire agreed on at talks in Kuala Lumpur on Monday betwen the two prime ministers. 'The Thai Government sincerely upholds that agreement and strictly adheres to the jointly announced ceasefire agreement," the statement said. 'However, the Cambodian military forces have violated the agreement by launching continuous and indiscriminate attacks on Thai territory across various areas along the border even after the agreed ceasefire time had passed.' The ceasefire agreement was to take effect at midnight. The government said it informed the international community of Cambodia's violation of the ceasefire agreement, and the message went especially to China, Malaysia as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and the United States 'who bore witness to yesterday's dialogue and negotiation – to inform them of Cambodia's lack of sincerity". The government said it ordered the armed forces to maintain their positions to protect the sovereignty of Thailand and the safety of Thai people. However, the government said it remained 'ready to proceed with dialogue at the regional command level between both sides as previously agreed in order to end the violence and prevent further losses to both civilians and military personnel". The government made the announcement after the army protested that Cambodia had violated the ceasefire agreement on Tuesday. Thai government spokesman Jirayu Houngsub said the cabinet on Tuesday ordered the military to maintain its forces along the border and do its best to defend Thai sovereignty and territory. The Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters rejected the statement by Cambodian defence spokeswoman Lt Gen Maly Socheata that both countries had fully complied with the ceasefire from midnight. Thailand had clear evidence showing that Cambodia fired their weapons in many areas on Thai soil after the ceasefire deadline, it said. 'Lieutenant General Maly Socheata is not only misleading the Cambodian public but also deceiving herself -- trapped in the very illusion she has fabricated. Her actions go beyond misinformation; they represent a deliberate attempt to construct a false reality to obscure her side's misconduct and evade accountability," the Royal Thai Armed Forces Heaquarters statement said. 'The Royal Thai Armed Forces call on Lieutenant General Maly Socheata to end this campaign of deception, which undermines trust and damages the fundamental principles of international cooperation. The international community must not allow such 'verbal illusions' to obscure the truth.' RAdm Surasant Kongsiri, spokesman of the Ad Hoc Centre on the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation, said Thai troops occupied 11 areas along the border with Cambodia - Chong An Ma, Chong Bok, Chong Chom, Chong Sai Taku, Don Tuan, Phra Wiharn, Phran Yao, Phu Makhuea, Satta Som, Ta Kwai and Ta Muen Thom. He also said that the border clashes had killed 15 Thai civilians and injured 38 others, and more than 188,000 Thai civilian evacuees remain in shelters in safe areas.
