Trifecta of Bonalu, Muharram and Jagannath Rath Yatra cause traffic disruptions across Hyderabad
Traffic movement across Hyderabad was partially disrupted on Friday as the city witnessed religious gatherings and processions related to Bonalu, the first day of Muharram, and the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra. Several key routes experienced slowdown through the day, particularly in the North and Central zones.
Around noon, the Hyderabad Traffic Police, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), alerted commuters stating, 'Due to heavy flow of devotees to ISKCON Temple near Sangeet X Roads, movement of vehicles are slow from Parade Ground, SBI X Roads, YMCA Sec-bad, North Zone, St John's Rotary towards Sangeet X Roads.'
Congestion in the area continued through the afternoon as devotees made their way to the temple.
The Ratha Yatra procession, organised by ISKCON Abids, began from NTR Stadium near Indira Park and moved towards the Exhibition Grounds, passing through busy stretches of the central city. Traffic diversions were enforced in phases as the chariot procession advanced. While no major bottlenecks were reported, traffic was halted briefly at several points, including parts of Himayatnagar and MJ Market.
In addition to the Rath Yatra, Muharram observances and Bonalu-related gatherings drew crowds in parts of the old city and Karwan, contributing to the slowdown in pockets of the South Zone. Traffic personnel were deployed across sensitive points to manage vehicle flow and reroute wherever required.
Commuters navigating affected areas reported delays. 'I was heading from Parade Ground to Chilkalguda around 11.30 a.m., but it took me nearly 45 minutes due to the jam near YMCA,' said Karthik Reddy, a tech employee. Another commuter, Farheen Ahmed, who was travelling from St Johns Rotary to Tarnaka, said, 'The traffic moved painfully slow, especially around Sangeet X Roads. It was crowded and confusing with people trying to find alternate routes.'
Officials confirmed that the overall situation remained under control and urged people to plan ahead and cooperate with traffic staff as similar restrictions may continue over the weekend in connection with religious events.

Gautam Adani's visit to Puri beach a moment of pride, say lifeguards
Puri: Lifeguards at the Puri beach on Saturday expressed immense joy and pride over Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani visiting them and the holy city of Odisha for the divine Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. Speaking to IANS, the lifeguards shared their joy and excitement over meeting and interacting with Gautam Adani. 'We feel honoured and overjoyed with Gautam Adani coming to visit us. This is the first time such a big personality has visited and interacted with us. We feel extremely happy,' Mani Shiva Rao, President of Puri Beach Lifeguard, told IANS. 'We were overwhelmed with joy and pride when Gautam Adani came to meet us. This is the first time such a prominent figure has interacted with us directly. It means a lot to all of us,' added Hari Rao, General Secretary of the Puri Lifeguard Association. The Adani Group has initiated the 'Prasad Seva' in Puri Dham and is undertaking a comprehensive 'seva' effort to support both pilgrims and frontline officials during the Rath Yatra from June 26 to July 8. The Group has offered support for lifeguards from the Puri Beach Lifeguard Mahasangha, and volunteers for beach clean-up, especially plastic waste. They also distributed free T-shirts for official volunteers and fluorescent safety vests for municipal workers. While the Rath Yatra continues to attract lakhs of devotees and tourists, the lifeguards of Puri Beach continue their silent but crucial duty of saving lives. 'Every day, we serve thousands -- lakhs -- of people who come for the Rath Yatra. Our team works selflessly, day and night, especially along the seashore and temple surroundings,' said Mani. 'We've handled over 450 live cases (medical emergencies) so far. Starting from 6 a.m. every morning, our teams ensure the area is clean and ready for pilgrims. From roads to lighting, and from safety to healthcare, we're constantly working to support the yatra and ensure everyone's well-being,' he added. As the dedicated lifeguards remain unsung heroes, amid the massive rush of devotees, lifeguard commander M Jogi Rao told IANS that they are working day and night for humanity and their real reward is saving lives. 'We are here every day, from sunrise to sunset, working to save lives. When we save someone from drowning, that moment fills our hearts -- and that's all the reward we need. We don't do this for fame or praise, we do it for humanity,' he said. He emphasised the unity and commitment of the lifeguard team, stating, 'The whole world is one. People come here from far and wide, and we stand ready for all of them. Our hunger is fulfilled the day we save a life.' Rao also offered a message of assurance to all tourists and pilgrims: 'Please don't worry. We're here for you, every single day. Come, enjoy the beauty of Puri Beach, and seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath without any fear. Your safety is in our hands.'

Bengaluru Traffic Inspires Newton's Fourth Law: ‘Auto At Rest Will Remain...'
Last Updated: Stuck in traffic near Brookfield, an X user posted a screenshot of his Google Maps, which estimated 48 minutes to travel just 3.6 kilometres. Bengaluru, often referred to as the IT capital of India, continues to draw professionals from every corner of the country with its countless job opportunities. But for all its growth and tech boom, the city has long been infamous for one thing – its unbearable traffic. Getting from one part of Bengaluru to another can often feel like a never-ending mission. And once again, the city has made headlines for its traffic troubles. Recently, a man named Lalit Gour shared his real-time struggle on X (formerly Twitter), and his post has been getting a lot of attention. Stuck in traffic near Brookfield, Lalit posted a screenshot of his Google Maps, which estimated 48 minutes to travel just 3.6 kilometres. 'Newton's fourth law of motion: A Bangalore auto at rest will remain at rest," he wrote along with the screenshot. One user said, 'No words when it comes to Bengaluru traffic," while another added, 'Walk is the only solution." Someone shared, 'Damn. 48 mins for 3.6km. I just drove to the office, 19 km in 50 mins." A person asked, 'Why??? Don't auto drivers want to earn money or they happy with freebies given by the government?" Even people outside Bengaluru could relate like an individual from Gurugram who said, 'Even here in Gurgaon, 16-lane roads get jammed." 'Crazy bro. When an interviewer asks, 'Where do you see yourself in 5 years?' I just think… still stuck in Bangalore traffic…," he wrote. Crazy an interviewer asks, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"I just think… still stuck in Bangalore traffic. 😭🤣 — Lalit Gour (@lalitgrateful) June 27, 2025 To tackle Bengaluru's ever-growing traffic problem, the government is working on several big infrastructure projects. Back in March, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar shared details about some of these upcoming developments aimed at improving the city's roads and traffic flow. 'We are planning double-decker flyovers wherever new metro lines are being developed. The BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) and BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) will share the cost equally. It costs Rs 120 crore to construct one kilometre of a double-decker flyover, and we have allocated Rs 9,000 crore for the project," he said, in a release issued by his office. Apart from flyovers, he said the city will also see 300 km of 50-feet-wide buffer roads built along stormwater drains. These are expected to ease congestion in areas that often get choked with traffic. For this, an additional Rs 3,000 crore has been set aside. First Published:
