'US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistani Army chief Asim Munir earlier today,' the US department of state said in a statement.
"He continued to urge both parties to find ways to deescalate and offered US assistance in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts," it added.

The Indian retaliatory strikes were followed after a series of provocations from Pakistan, including a major drone offensive on strike, when 26 locations—from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat—were targeted using armed drones.
Defence sources said that Indian forces successfully thwarted these attacks, which were aimed at key infrastructure such as airports and air bases, for a second consecutive night.
Indian defence systems also intercepted and neutralized drones and missiles launched in an attempt to strike military installations in 15 northern and western Indian cities.
The latest actions are part of a broader Indian military response under Operation Sindoor, which began on Wednesday.
As part of that operation, Indian armed forces carried out precise missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. The operation was launched in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians.

1 2 Prayagraj: Authorities of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) have intensified preparations for the review officer (RO)/assistant review officer (ARO) preliminary exam 2023 scheduled on July 27 at 2,382 centres spread over 75 districts across the state. Commission's secretary Ashok Kumar issued a detailed instructions to all exam centres regarding the examination. The original and preserved copies were sealed in tamper-proof polybag envelopes to ensure security. The examination will be conducted for 3 hours and candidates are required to answer 200 questions, including 140 on general studies and 60 on general Hindi. The examination incorporates a negative marking scheme, where one-third mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. In Prayagraj district alone, 106 examination centres have been established to accommodate total 46,032 registered candidates. Several institutions were allocated two centres each to manage the large number of candidates. Notably, the centres also included prominent educational institutions such as the Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University in Faizabad and Prof. Rajendra Singh Rajju Bhaiya University in Naini, along with some CBSE-affiliated schools.

Ranchi: The Hemant Soren-led cabinet on Thursday decided to rechristen all PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee Mohalla Clinics in the state as Mother Teresa Advanced Health Clinics, drawing sharp reactions from oppoisition from BJP . According to the state health department, currently, 140 PM Atal Mohalla Clinics are operational across the state. The clinics were first rolled out in 2019 during the BJP's tenure when Raghubar Das was the chief minister. Though the health department officials refused to comment on the renaming, they said the overhauled clinics would be upgraded with the efficacies enhanced along with advanced facilities at the mohalla level as part of the department's health services' overhaul plan across the state. Criticising the move, BJP accused the govt of playing "dirty politics", taking the name of legendary personalities to digress from the real issues plaguing the people of the state. SC admits Bengal plea against HC order on 113 OBC subgroups
1 2 Kolkata: Supreme Court on Thursday admitted Bengal govt's plea against a Calcutta High Court order striking down efforts by the state to classify 113 subgroups under OBC A and B categories. An SC bench presided over by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai listed the matter for hearing on July 28. In another development, a division bench of Calcutta HC extended the interim stay on the state gazette notification, announcing the fresh inclusion of 140 subgroups under the OBC category in Bengal, till Aug 31. Senior counsel Kapil Sibal mentioned the state's plea in the apex court. He submitted that the HC, on May 21, 2024, struck down the inclusion of 113 new subgroups on the ground that the exercise was undertaken by executive directions and not backed by the legislature.
