'Mafia' behind sand crisis
Responding to complaints about the shortage of sand and laterite stones, SP Dr Arun K said, 'There is no real shortage. There is adequate sand in the district. The problem lies with the mafia, which is trying to push for CRZ sand.'
He added that sand blocks have been identified and are available for booking via the Sand Bazaar app. 'Lawful construction is not being obstructed by police, but illegal activities will not be tolerated,' he stated.

Lucknow: The braille press of Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) has printed over 2,000 books covering more than 30 subjects that would be accessible to visually impaired students free of cost from the academic session 2025-26. According to university officials, this move will not only improve the results of the students due to the availability of books but will also save their money. DSMNRU offers several courses for visually impaired students, such as BEd in Special Education (Visual Impairment), a Diploma in Special Education (Visual Impairment), and an MEd in Visual Impairment. "The braille press will be a major relief for our visually impaired students whose results were impacted due to the challenges they faced in procuring braille books. The best thing is that the books published are in accordance with the National Education Policy," said DSMNRU spokesperson Yashwant Virodai. He said the braille books cover various academic disciplines, including sociology, education and English literature. The university library now houses a dedicated section for these braille textbooks, making them readily available to visually impaired students. I ndore: Hundreds of students were left anxious and helpless on Wednesday as registration portal for undergraduate (UG) college admissions crashed repeatedly on the final day. The server reportedly went down around noon, three hours before the official deadline of 3pm, leaving many students unable to submit their applications. The technical glitch created chaos, with students making multiple failed attempts to register throughout the afternoon. "I tried submitting my form at least ten times, but the site just wouldn't load or crashed midway," said Toshika Verma, a Class 12 pass out from the city. Many students rushed to nearby college help desks, but the system remained unresponsive. Senior academicians from the city confirmed that the server remained down for nearly three to four hours. "Due to high traffic on the final day, the server could not handle the load. As a result, a significant number of students missed their chance to register.
