A roaring good time at GL Play's ‘Rimba Safari'
PETALING JAYA : It was a thrilling time filled with fun and adventure last weekend when GL Play's hosted its inaugural 'Rimba Safari' event.
Held at the Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands (PIDW) on May 10 and 11, 'Rimba Safari' featured an exciting array of outdoor experiences designed to connect families and nature lovers with the area's rich natural ecosystem.
Special promotions, such as 'buy 1-for-1″ deals on selected park rides, only sweetened the deal.
PIDW is a biodiversity sanctuary located at Gamuda Cove, managed and operated by Gamuda Land. Spanning approximately 450ha, these gazetted wetlands serve as a crucial ecotourism hub in the southern Klang Valley and are a vital habitat for endangered species.
'Attractions like PIDW showcase the beauty of Selangor's natural landscapes and inspire a sense of responsibility towards protecting them,' Gamuda Land representative Liong Ve Lyn said.
'Guests can connect with the natural world through engaging outdoor experiences and learn about the importance of preserving its beauty.'

Among the weekend's highlights was a pushbike competition, which saw excited young participants giving their all for a shot at biking glory. Also taking place were a bustling bazaar and a buzzing go-kart track.
'Rimba Safari' was also an excellent way to showcase some of the park's activities, such as land fishing and boat cruises, which are available on a weekly basis. Nature-loving visitors will likely enjoy a rugged ride via a Safari truck or on horseback!
The park's 'Nature Wanderlust' experience is an excellent way to see and take in this lush wetlands paradise. Go on a trek through the Bamboo Trail, or visit the picturesque Sendayan Lake during sunset. Spotting wild birds can be a real 'trill'!
Don't forget to check out Rumah Melayu, a traditional Malay-style kampung house on the grounds that has been featured in several local productions. Then grab a bite at Belibis Café, which offers a range of local-style dishes.

The biggest attraction here may well be the chance to get up close and personal with wildlife in a safe, respectful and enriching environment.
The Petting Zoo hosts a variety of fascinating animals, from tiny Falabella horses and chatty mynah birds to slithery ball pythons and fluffy rabbits. There were even elephants on the grounds!
For a real walk on the wild side, visit the Hippo Pond and admire the sight of these majestic mammals basking in the sun. Or head to the Crocodile Lake, which hosts about 73 of these remarkable reptiles.
Here's a tip: time your visits around feeding times to experience truly unforgettable encounters with these animals!

Loke: Taxi drivers to get a makeover for Visit Malaysia 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 — The Transport Ministry plans to provide basic language and driver etiquette training for taxi drivers ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), said its Minister, Anthony Loke Siew Fook. Loke said this is important because the taxi industry is more than just transportation, but represents the heartbeat of public service and serves as the first impression of the country for tourists. He added that the government has also extended the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) contribution incentive from 10 per cent to 30 per cent to safeguard the safety and welfare of taxi drivers. 'These reforms are ongoing, and I will continue to work with this industry to strengthen the public transport sector for the benefit of the people,' he posted on Facebook. Earlier, Loke officiated the third annual general meeting of the Malaysia Taxi, Rental Car, Limousine and Airport Taxi Association (GTSM), which gave him the opportunity to hear for himself the industry's views. As Transport Minister, he believes that meaningful reforms in the sector can only be implemented through close collaboration with industry players, such as the GTSM. — Bernama

AirAsia to launch KL and Kuching-Pontianak direct flights to boost Malaysia-Indonesia travel from Sept 12
KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — AirAsia Malaysia has launched two new direct routes connecting Kuala Lumpur and Kuching to Pontianak, the capital city of West Kalimantan, Indonesia, with AirAsia as the only airline operating international flights to the city starting Sept 12, 2025. In a statement, the company said the expansion follows AirAsia's rapid growth in Indonesia, including the recent launch of the Kuala Lumpur-Palembang route in July and the upcoming Kuala Lumpur-Semarang service in September. 'With the introduction of Pontianak, AirAsia Malaysia will operate to a total of 17 destinations in Indonesia through 223 weekly flights between the two countries, solidifying its position as the airline with the widest network serving Indonesia,' it said. The launch of these new routes strengthens regional connectivity and supports both governments' targets, including Malaysia's goal of attracting 4.3 million Indonesian tourists in 2025 and Sarawak's target of five million visitor arrivals by year-end. It also aims to contribute to Indonesia's national target of 16 million international arrivals, with Malaysia remaining one of its top source markets, it said. The new routes were unveiled during the Sarawak Travel Fair, organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board in Pontianak, and officially launched by West Kalimantan Governor Drs Ria Norsan. He said the new direct routes will not only facilitate easier access for travellers but also bolster trade, investment and tourism flows. 'West Kalimantan stands ready to welcome more Malaysian visitors while providing convenient access for Indonesians seeking business opportunities, leisure travel and medical services in Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur,' he said. Consulate of Malaysia in Pontianak, Consul Azizul Zekri Abd Rahim said the new connectivity marks a pivotal moment in fostering stronger bilateral ties between Malaysia and Indonesia, particularly West Kalimantan. 'With Visit Malaysia 2026 on the horizon, this expansion comes at the perfect moment to further boost tourism, foster cultural exchange and enhance regional ties between both nations,' he said. AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra said the strong demand for travel between Malaysia and West Kalimantan had driven the company to enhance connectivity, making it easier and more affordable for people to travel for business, tourism and medical purposes. 'By launching flights from our main hub in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching, we are providing greater convenience and flexibility for our guests while contributing to the tourism growth and economic development of both Malaysia and Indonesia,' he added. — Bernama
