Naxal couple surrenders before security forces in Chhattisgarh
Jeevan Tulavi, 45, and his wife Agasha, 35, were active in the Maoist ranks for more than 20 years. They surrendered in the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district, about 180 km from the state capital Raipur.
Tulavi alias Ram Tulavi was the divisional committee member and was working as education team commander in Maad division , while Agasha alias Aarti Korram was an area committee member of the outlawed CPI and was working in the press team in the same division and used to draft press releases, a senior officer said.
The state police had placed a ₹8 lakh reward for catching Tulavi, he said.
The couple surrendered before Rajnandgaon range Inspector General of Police Abhishek Shandilya, Superintendent of Police Y P Singh, and Commandant of the 27th Indo-Tibetan Border Police force Vivek Kumar Pandey.
The security forces called the surrender a "major" success, given that the two Maoists were part of the ideological setup of the Naxalites, who worked to motivate the cadres and recruit fresh blood into the fold.
Tulavi joined the ranks of the Left Wing Extremists in 2008 and worked in the military team of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army in south Rajnandgaon.
After 2012-13, he changed track and got engaged as an LWE ideology teacher in the mobile political school of the Maad division, according to security officials.
The man hails from the Parvidih village in this district and has been working as the Maad division education unit commander and has extensively travelled in all the villages in Abujhmad to train and educate the political ideology of the Maoists through mobile academic school , they said.
Agasha is a resident of Telitola village in this district and has been working in the press team of the Maad division and as a commander of the Chetna Natya Mandali .
She has been a singer, dancer, poet, orator and a song composer since 2000 and was operating computers and drafting press releases for the LWEs, the officials said.
The district shares its border with Kanker and Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, and the forces are undertaking operations here as part of the Union government's declaration to end Maoism from the country by March 2026.

Four Maoists killed in Bijapur encounter carried 17L bounty
Raipur: Four Maoists including two women and two high-ranking commanders carrying a combined bounty of Rs 17 lakh, were killed in an encounter with security forces in the dense forests along the Basaguda-Gangalur border of Bijapur district in Bastar division. The operation was launched by District Reserve Guard (DRG) based on specific intelligence inputs, targeted Maoist activity in the highly sensitive southwestern region of the district. Officials said that the encounter began on the evening of July 26 and continued intermittently through the night. Following the exchange of fire, security personnel recovered the bodies of four Maoists from the encounter site. Hunga, an Area Committee Member (ACM) of Platoon No. 10 under the South Sub-Zonal Bureau, carried a bounty of Rs 5 lakh. Another commander, Lakkhe, also an ACM associated with Platoon No. 30 of the same bureau, was wanted with a reward of Rs 5 lakh. The third, Bhime, also an ACM, had a similar bounty. The fourth was Nihal alias Rahul, a party member who served as the personal guard to Bureau Communication Team Head Santosh; he had a bounty of Rs 2 lakh. These individuals were known to be involved in planning and executing violent ambushes against security forces in the region. Planning, Coordination Involved In Op Bastar Range Inspector General of Police P Sundarraj said that this operation builds upon the strategic gains made by security forces in 2024. "From January 2024 to July 2025, security operations have led to the elimination of 425 hardcore Maoists across Bastar. These successes are the result of precise tactical planning, coordination, and growing support from local communities," he said. Kolkata: Kolkata and Bidhannagar Police have issued separate advisories, urging residents to verify the identity and background of domestic workers, especially those hired through ayah centres. This comes in response to a series of thefts and other criminal cases, involving domestic helps in recent months. The advisories stress that employers must collect and retain govt-issued identification from domestic helps, submit their details to the local police stations, and conduct independent background verification before employment. Residents are also advised to maintain CCTV surveillance, keep an inventory of valuables, and limit access to personal and sensitive areas of the house. Security forces recover Rs 34.99L from Saranda forest
Jamshedpur: The security forces in West Singhbhum have unearthed cash Rs 34.99 lakh from the Saranda forest on Sunday. The currency notes were stashed in steel tiffin boxes and safely hidden under the ground. The SP, Rakesh Ranjan, has said that the money, which belonged to the Naxalites group, was collected by the ultras in the form of levy over a period of time. He said that money was meant for purchasing firearms and explosives to target the security forces engaged in the anti naxal operation in the district. The cash was recovered from Nawada forest village under Karaikela police station limits during the search operation carried out by the forces on receiving intelligence about the money being concealed in the jungle by the Maoists.
