With an aim to fast track Amaravati railway line works, the state govt has decided to conduct public hearing on land acquisition on Tuesday. The govt issued notices to farmers for the acquisition of about 334 acres in Palnadu district and 200 acres in Guntur district for the proposed railway line to the capital city. The district administration asked farmers to come with their documents and objections about the proposed land acquisition.Union cabinet had given its green signal for rail connectivity to Amaravati in last October. Centre has agreed to take up this project on high priority basis despite the fact that it was not projected in the last budget. It estimated that the new rail line project would cost around Rs 2,245 crore and the new line will be laid from Errupalem in Khammam district on the existing Vijayawada-Hyderabad railway line to Nambur station under the Vijayawada-Guntur section.Sources said that the railway authorities have already completed the land acquisition in Khammam district of Telangana and are gearing up to launch the first phase of works. Although, the process to acquire the land in three districts- NTR, Guntur and Palnadu was also initiated immediately after the Centre's announcement, it got delayed due to objections from farmers.The land-owning farmers, particularly from Guntur district, were strongly resisting the land acquisition plans as these lands were located close to the capital city and is expected to fetch them massive price. While the current market value for an acre land in and around the capital city is between Rs 4 crore and Rs 8 crore depending on the location, farmers fear that they might not fetch the similar price if acquired by the authorities. Sources said that local legislator Tenali Sravan Kumar is believed to have been negotiating with the farmers to join the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) in case they were not willing to accept the compensation to be offered as per the Act.Interestingly, the state govt recently conducted grama sabhas in several villages of Thullur, Tadikonda mandals to implement the second phase of Land Pooling Scheme (LPS-II). The railway track will pass through Thullur, Tadikonda and Pedakakani mandals. Rising construction costs hinder progress of PMAY-G scheme in Mys and Ch'nagar
Mysuru: The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G), the flagship rural housing scheme aimed at providing houses to the homeless in rural areas, is facing significant delays in the twin districts of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, largely due to the soaring cost of construction materials and labour. In Mysuru district, 20,908 houses were sanctioned for the fiscal year 2024-25. However, only 64.4% progress has been achieved so far, while Chamarajanagar district achieved only 27.2% progress. Against the target of constructing 20,908 houses in Mysuru district, 13,462 beneficiaries have taken up the construction of their houses after receiving the allotment letter. The remaining 7,466 beneficiaries who were identified are still waiting for the allotment sanction letter. In Chamarajanagar district, of the 39,317 houses targeted for construction this fiscal, only 10,681 have been sanctioned. That leaves a backlog of 28,636 houses yet to be built in the district. Houseless people living in kutcha houses with walls and roofs made out of mud, grass, and other non-durable materials, living in one room, were identified as beneficiaries. Under the scheme, the Union govt provides Rs 1.2 lakh grants for the construction of a house for general category candidates and Rs 1.8 lakh for SC/ST beneficiaries. In addition to this, the beneficiaries can also claim Rs 31,410 for 90 days of work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. The ZP also provides Rs 12,000 to general category candidates for the construction of individual toilets and Rs 20,000 for SC/ST beneficiaries separately under the Swachh Bharat Mission. "Govt must increase the grants provided for the construction of houses under the scheme as beneficiaries struggle to complete the construction of houses with less grants of Rs 1.2 lakh for the general category and Rs 1.8 lakh for SC/STs when prices of steel, cement, labour charges, and other construction materials and expenditures are increasing day by day," said HM Sambram, former president of Benakanahalli GP of T Narasipura taluk. Speaking to TOI, Mysuru zilla panchayat chief executive officer S Ukesh Kumar said Mysuru district stood first in the state in the implementation of the scheme when compared to other districts. "Some other districts achieved only 10%," he stated. The CEO said all panchayat development officers will be instructed to expedite the construction of the houses under the scheme.

Two 3-lane flyovers soon to decongest key chowks in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: As the design of two new flyovers proposed at Ambedkar Chowk and Dadi Sati Chowk is finalised, GMDA is planning to float tenders for their construction within two weeks. These congested intersections will get 11m-wide flyovers with three lanes in each direction and two-lane service roads. Ambedkar Chowk, a junction connecting sectors 45, 46, 51, and 52, sees around 6,100 passenger car units (PCUs) during peak hours every day. With major residential societies including Ardee City and Mayfield Garden, along with schools, and hospitals in the vicinity, the 700-metre flyover proposed here will provide a much-needed relief from frequent traffic jams. Estimated to cost Rs 52 crore, the project will also improve the traffic flow to and fro Sohna Road. These sectors have witnessed rapid development in recent years, with several high-rise residential projects, commercial establishments, and a growing population adding to the traffic in the area. It sees around 9,400 PCUs and this figure is expected to cross the 10,000-mark by the time the construction of the flyover begins. The 840-metre flyover, estimated to cost Rs 59 crore, is expected to streamline traffic movement between Dwarka Expressway and Manesar. "Traffic at Dadi Sati Chowk is a nightmare to navigate through in the evenings. With schools and new societies coming up, the road can no longer handle the volume of cars that plight on it. At times, when the traffic signal doesn't work, the roundabout gets completely choked. The construction of the flyover, which is long due, should be taken up by the authorities on priority," said Vivek Prakash, a resident of New Town Heights. Both projects received administrative approval in July last year. With detailed project reports (DPRs) now finalised, GMDA officials said the focus was on completing the tendering process. Once construction begins, the flyovers are expected to take around two years to complete. "The designs have been prepared keeping in mind future traffic growth, with provisions for service roads. We are now preparing documents and hoping to invite bids for construction by Aug 15," said a senior GMDA official.

At Rs 25.1 lakh crore, UPI payments hit new high in July
Mumbai: UPI transactions reached a new peak in July 2025, with a record 1,947 crore transactions worth nearly Rs 25.1 lakh crore. This marked a 35% year-on-year growth in transaction volume and a 22% rise in transaction value. The average daily transaction count in July stood at 62.8 crore , higher than June's 61.3 crore. Likewise, the average daily transaction value increased to Rs 80,919 crore in July from Rs 80,131 crore in June, reflecting steady momentum in digital payments. Both volume and value metrics show that UPI continues to expand its footprint, with July registering the highest monthly transaction count on record.
