Hongkongers should avoid making any trips to Israel and Iran, the government warned on Thursday, raising the outbound travel alert to "black" for both countries.
The administration also advised residents who are in the two countries to leave or relocate immediately.
The black alert, which indicates severe threat, is the highest level on a three-tier system that also includes amber and red warnings. Two other countries with a black alert are Lebanon and Syria.
"Due to the highly unpredictable security situation in Israel and Iran, the [SAR] government advises Hong Kong residents to avoid all travel to Israel and Iran," a spokesperson said.
"Those already there should attend to personal safety and leave or relocate to relatively safe regions immediately."
Residents who require assistance may contact the Immigration Department or the Chinese embassy in the two countries, and the Security Bureau will continue to closely monitor the situation and issue updates.
A total of 19 Hongkongers have so far sought help, according to the Immigration Department. Sixteen of them have already managed to leave the area.
The latest conflict began when Israel launched a military attack on Iran, which led to retaliation by Tehran.

Cut rents further to lift catering sector

Cut rents further to lift catering sector Simon Wong says visitors to Hong Kong are spending less. Photo: RTHK A catering sector representative on Saturday said rents will continue to be a challenge despite a recent reduction. Simon Wong, president of the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades told a Commercial Radio programme that even though the SAR has been welcoming more tourists this year, business performance is worse than the pre-Covid period. This is because spending for each visitor has dropped by 20 percent. Noting that landlords have slashed rents by up to 15 percent on average in the past half-year – and even 30 percent in some districts – Wong expressed the hope that they would go down even further. "If there's so much empty space on the street, the landlords would feel that kind of pressure and they are willing to lower their rent at this moment. And I'm looking forward to more decrease in the rent because still the rents compared to other expenses are quite high," he told reporters. "Our operating expenses is comprised of rent, salaries and also food costs, and rental is one of the major expenses we encounter. So if the rent can go down by at least another 20 or 25 percent, it would help us a lot." Wong also noted that the phenomenon of Hongkongers heading north to spend is "irreversible", but he hopes that the government will expand multiple-entry visas to cover the entire Greater Bay Area, or even other mainland cities to help the catering sector. Meanwhile, Wong said he expects a campaign – which sees more than 3,800 restaurants offering discounts of up to 29 percent to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the SAR's establishment on July 1 –to boost business by up to 15 percent that day.

HK 'aims to boost role as Asia's events capital'

HK 'aims to boost role as Asia's events capital' Hong Kong's first-ever Brazilian festival 'Extravaganza! When Brazil Meets Hong Kong' will take place at AIA Vitality Park in Central. Photo: RTHK Financial Secretary Paul Chan said on Friday that Hong Kong is looking to strengthen its role as Asia's events capital by hosting more international events for both residents and tourists. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the city's inaugural Brazilian festival, "Extravaganza! When Brazil Meets Hong Kong," Chan emphasised the need for creativity to enhance the city's appeal. "It requires imagination, innovation and inspiration to make our city even more attractive to tourists and residents," he said. "We need more events like this one and more joint efforts by the business community, including the tourism, catering and retail sectors, to create new experiences for consumers and visitors." Chan noted that beyond concerts and major rugby fixtures, Hong Kong will host top-tier football matches, expressing a keen desire to welcome the Brazilian national team soon. Brazilian deputy consul-general Hervelter de Mattos said the national team would love to play in the SAR, and hopes to see them come in the future. He further highlighted the festival's significance, calling it a "new cultural bridge" benefiting both tourism and the local economy. "It's inevitable that business will also benefit from this situation," de Mattos said. "Most of the consuls general who were here [at the festival] are from countries that share somehow the same kind of energy. "If you see the Philippines, Thailand, Colombia, Spain and others, these are countries also with the same kind of warm culture. It's a good occasion for all of us." Festival founder and CEO Stefan Matzinger expects up to 8,000 visitors daily during the three-day celebration.
