MDMA worth over Rs 10 crore seized near Nepal border in Uttarakhand; woman arrested
Champawat Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Ganpati revealed that 5.688 kg of MDMA (methamphetamine) was recovered during a checking drive at Gadhigoth Bridge in Pampapur (Tanakpur).
A 22-year-old woman, identified as Isha, wife of Rahul Kumar and a resident of Pampapur in Champawat district, was arrested after she was seen acting suspiciously and attempting to flee towards a canal with a black backpack. The search, conducted in the presence of Tanakpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (SP) Vandana Verma, led to the recovery of the high-value synthetic drug.
Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for the police team involved in the successful operation.
The seizure was made during a joint operation by Champawat District Police, Pithoragarh Police, and the Special Task Force (STF) near the Nepal border.
Earlier today, on the instructions of the Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, 'Operation Kalanemi' was started against the impersonators who cheat people in the name of religion by playing with their feelings and beliefs in Devbhoomi.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh, the arrested individuals were allegedly preying on people's religious sentiments and were involved in duping unsuspecting victims.
While speaking to ANI, the SSP said, 'Under this campaign, the police took action in various police station areas on Saturday and arrested 23 fake babas roaming around in the guise of saints and sadhus. Among the arrested fake babas, 10 persons are residents of other states.'
The Chief Minister has instructed to identify all such persons and take strict action against them. As part of the initiative, Dehradun Police on Saturday arrested 23 individuals posing as sadhus in different areas of the district.
Singh told ANI, 'In line with the instructions, all the station in-charges have been instructed to identify such persons in their respective police station areas, who disguise themselves as saints and mislead people, especially women and youth, and lure them to solve their personal or domestic problems and commit fraud with them, and take strict action against them.'

Theft bid at Jharkhand Rajya Gramin Bank in Palamu foiled
1 2 Daltonganj: Town police foiled a theft attempt at the Belwatika branch of the Jharkhand Rajya Gramin Bank on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, police said. The officer in-charge of the town police outpost, Rakesh Kumar Singh, said, "Police got a call about suspected movement of people near the branch around 12:30 am on Sunday. Delhi hit-and-run case: Luxury car driver who ran over 5 people at Vasant Vihar gets bail
Utsav Shekhar, the driver of a luxury car who was held for running over five people sleeping on a footpath in Delhi's Vasant Vihar area was granted bail, said police. The shocking hit-and-run incident took place in the early hours of July 9. Delhi Police said: "On dated 09.07.2025 at 01:45 AM, a PCR call regarding an accident near Indian Petrol Pump, infront of Shiva Camp, Vasant Vihar was received at Police Station Vasant Vihar. On reaching the spot, it came to notice that the injured persons have been shifted to hospitals. All were sleeping on the footpath." According to the FIR, a victim named Sabami said she was sleeping along with her family on the footpath opposite to Shiva Camp, beneath the Munirka Flyover. "Around 1:30 AM, a white car came speeding and recklessly drove over our family and others sleeping there," Sabami's complaint said, according to ANI report. The driver briefly stopped after the incident, looked at the injured, and then fled in the direction of Shankar Vihar. Sabami also said a bystander came to her aid and handed her a slip with the car's registration number, which she later submitted to the police. According to ANI report, another victim Narayani said: "The car ran over us... Me, my husband and children got injured. I got unconscious after being run over and sustained injuries on the chest and neck... We have been sleeping here (on the footpath) since many years..." The Delhi Police seized the vehicle involved in the incident and sent it for forensic analysis. A case was registered at Vasant Vihar police station under sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Utsav Shekhar, aged 40, is a resident of Dwarka and deals in property-related work. He was returning from Noida when the incident took place near the Indian Oil Petrol Pump, Vasant Vihar. He was allegedly drunk at the time of driving and had also hit a truck after the accident when the police caught him.

Railways to install CCTV cameras in coaches to enhance passenger safety
New Delhi [India], July 13 (ANI): Based on the positive outcome of experimental installation of CCTV cameras in passenger coaches, Railways has decided to install CCTV cameras in all coaches, according to a press release from the Ministry of Railways on Sunday. 'This move will significantly improve passenger safety. Miscreants and organised gangs take advantage of gullible passengers. With cameras, such incidents will significantly reduce. To preserve privacy of passengers, CCTV cameras will be installed in the common movement area near the doors.' Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu reviewed the progress of CCTV Cameras' installation in locomotives and coaches, with the meeting which was held on Saturday being attended by the senior officials of the Railway Board. The railway officials informed that successful trials have been done in the loco engines and coaches of the Northern Railway. The Union Minister gave the go ahead to install CCTV cameras in all 74,000 coaches and 15,000 locos. Each railway coach will be covered with 4 dome type CCTV cameras - 2 in each entrance way and each locomotive will have 6 CCTV cameras. This will include 1 camera each at the front, rear and on both sides of the locomotive. Each cab (front and rear) of a loco will be fitted with 1 dome CCTV camera and 2 desk mounted microphones. The officials shared that the CCTV cameras will have the latest specifications and will be STQC certified. The Union Minister for Railways emphasised on deploying the best-in-class equipment. He urged the railway officials to ensure that high quality footage should be available even for trains running at 100 kmph plus speeds and also under low lighting conditions. The Union Minister for Railways encouraged the officials to explore the use of AI on the data captured by CCTV cameras, in collaboration with the IndiaAI mission, the statement read. The move of fitting cameras in the common movement areas of coaches aims to improve safety and security of passengers. While preserving privacy, these cameras will help in identifying miscreants.
