Death Probe Of Ex-Yankee Star's Son Takes Another Disturbing Turn
Tests conducted in a hotel room where the Gardners stayed during their vacation last month showed 'high emissions of carbon monoxide contamination,' Randall Zuniga of Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Department said in a news conference, ESPN reported. Miller Gardner may have succumbed to 'inhaling hazardous gases,' he added.
Investigators figure the source of the contamination was a 'machine room' next door.
'Levels of up to 600 parts per million were found, when the correct level should be zero in this specific case,' Zuniga said. Exposure to 200 parts per million or higher can reportedly cause death within hours.
Miller Gardner died on March 21. An emergency team from a nearby urgent care administered CPR for 30 minutes but could not save him.
The entire family felt unwell the previous night after dining at a local restaurant, according to reports. Authorities initially believed the teen died of 'asphyxiation due to intoxication related to food poisoning' but later ruled that out.
Investigators are awaiting autopsy and toxicology results. The FBI is aiding in the investigation, Zuniga told ESPN.
Miller Gardner played football and baseball at Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville, South Carolina.

Who are the candidates for NFLPA interim executive director? No one knows
The NFL Players Association needs an executive director. Before that, the NFLPA needs an interim executive director. At this point, no one knows who the more immediate hire will be. Or when it will happen. The internal document obtained by ESPN that became the centerpiece of a report regarding potential criminal investigation mentions five potential, but not actual, candidates. Three currently work for the NFLPA: senior director of player affairs Lester Archambeau, chief player officers Don Davis, and chief operating officer Teri Smith. The other two are former NFLPA presidents — Domonique Foxworth and Eric Winston. ESPN also reports that former executive director DeMaurice Smith could be a candidate to return and to get things under contract. Per the same report, however, Smith isn't interested. It's still not known who's interested in the job and, more importantly, the persons in whom the NFLPA is interested. Who's currently running things? Who's making decisions? Who's vetting candidates for the interim job? Who will be negotiating with them? The messier the situation becomes, the more expensive it could become to find someone competent to fix it. We still think they should contact former (as of Friday) Packers CEO Mark Murphy. He has run a multi-billion-dollar football operation for 17 years, he played in the NFL, he served as a player rep, and he was employed by the NFLPA after he retired from the NFL, both as an assistant executive director and as a vice president. He also helped negotiate the 2011 CBA on behalf of the NFL. He'd be the perfect candidate to restore order to the union — and to strike fear in the hearts of his recently former business partners.

UTSA QB opens up on former Memphis player sharing playbook in huge college football scandal
UTSA quarterback Owen McCown downplayed any importance of the messages shared with him by ex-Memphis player Tahj Ra-El last season that included parts of the Tigers' playbook. McCown told Sports Illustrated he didn't share the information with teammates or coaches, and that the story, first reported by TigerSportsReport, has been mischaracterized. 'Out of the blue, for whatever reason, [Ra-El] sent me a couple images that were completely irrelevant,' McCown said. 'If anybody gets anything, you're going to look at it, but it was of no help whatsoever to me and anybody, really. I would never do something like that. So it was completely irrelevant.
