Bulls hope to whitewash Dragons this weekend
The Bulls are aiming to keep last-placed Dragons off the scoreboard when the teams clash in their final URC league phase game.

Picture: Sydney Seshibedi/The Bulls are aiming for a whitewash victory against Dragons when the teams play in their last United Rugby Championship league phase match at Loftus on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
The Bulls also hoped to keep Cardiff off the scoreboard in their match last weekend. Though the Bulls won the game at Loftus with a bonus point, it wasn't the perfect win they hoped for when they fell asleep in defence at certain points and let the Welsh side score three tries (final score 45–21).
But the Pretoria outfit will not go easy on bottom-placed Dragons, even though the Bulls only need a losing bonus point to guarantee a second-place finish on the URC log should Glasgow Warriors beat Leinster with a bonus point.
Bulls hooker Johan Grobbelaar told media they will be striving for a perfect game and play without the fear of injury.
Bulls have 'no room for errors'
'We wanted to give them (Cardiff) zero points on the board, same as this weekend [against Dragons],' Grobbelaar said. 'We were on track and then they got those three tries that didn't make any difference to the result or the log. But it is something we want to fix going into the playoffs.
'When we play those big matches, there won't be room for errors.'
The Dragons have only won one match so far this season, beating Ospreys eight months ago in September. Still, Grobbelaar said there would be no complacency among Bulls players before and during the game.
'There's a lot of motivation. At this stage of the competition, you want to keep building. You want to be at your best. This week won't change much about the log, but it is good for building form and confidence.
'You don't want to wonder what is going on and what went wrong last weekend when you go into a quarter-final. We're going to have to be on top of our game against Dragons.'
Touching on star flyhalf Johan Goosen picking up another knee injury last weekend, Grobbelaar said injuries were a reality but no one would be holding back for fear of picking one up.

According to Rapport, the former Lions coach received a contract extension offer from SA Rugby to continue his work with the Junior Springboks before news broke about White's situation at the Bulls. White is expected to leave his role – despite having taken the Bulls to three Vodacom URC finals in four seasons and being contracted until 2027 – following reported discontent among senior players and assistant coaches Andries Bekker and Chris Rossouw over White's leadership. Rapport says the Bulls are expected to confirm White's departure within the next two weeks. Ackermann joined the Junior Boks as a forwards consultant in January on a six-month deal which was extended by a month to include the World Rugby U20 Championship that starts on Sunday. The 55-year-old had emerged as a leading candidate for the Loftus job due to his strong relationship with Bulls CEO Edgar Rathbone (who he worked with at the Lions) and president Willem Strauss. However, two other big names are also in the mix. Franco Smith, who guided the Glasgow Warriors to the 2024-25 URC title, is under contract until 2026 but is reportedly frustrated by budget constraints and foreign player rules in Scotland. Johann van Graan, fresh off a historic treble with Bath – winning the EPCR Challenge Cup, English Premiership and Premiership Cup – has a contract until 2030 but is believed to still harbour ambitions of coaching the Bulls and eventually the Springboks. Last year, during an unbelievable debut season for the Springboks, where he went toe-to-toe with the All Blacks at Ellis Park and came out with the win, his father, Nick Feinberg, mentioned that he was quite the soccer player. This statement is backed up by various videos on social media, where the young flyhalf does some pretty nifty tricks with his feet. 'I maintain Sacha was as good if not a better footballer than a rugby player,' Feinberg told the Daily Voice last year. 'In my opinion, he could have made it in the 'Beautiful Game'. You can check him on TikTok doing stuff with a rugby ball that most footballers can't do with a football'. He does it on a rugby field as well, as his juggling act with the ball at his feet before scoring against the Lions in a United Rugby Championship match still fresh in everybody's memory. But that football background is noticeable in his kicking game, as he has a variety of kicking options, whether it is a very high bomb, a flat kick to find a '50-22' or just a little dink to collect himself. His kicking game is really an underrated part of his game because of the other special skills in his armoury, such as his passing and running games, which has already been compared to the All Black great and flyhalf GOAT Dan Carter. 'Some people don't understand how strong his kicking game is. He is a natural footballer. He can do things with a ball that I, coming from the township, can't do!' assistant coach Mzwandile Stick said with a smile at the Springboks' captain's press conference on Friday. Feinberg-Mngomezulu's kicking game and game management will certainly be in the spotlight in the Boks' first outing of 2025 when they take on the Barbarians at the DHL Stadium in his hometown of Cape Town on Saturday. Heavy rains continue to lash the Mother City and Saturday is expected to only clear up shortly before the match starts at 5.10pm. So the plan may be to kick a lot more in behind the dangerous Barbarians' backline. But Feinberg-Mngomezulu is the type of player that loves to go off-script and chance his arm when he sees an opportunity to run. Most times it works out for the best, which makes him such a joy to watch. But sometimes he tends to overplay a bit, like in the Stormers' URC quarter-final against Glasgow Warriors, where he tried to force the issue on his own and not bring other players into the game. One thing about Feinberg-Mngomezulu is that he doesn't sulk when he makes a mistake and tends to brush off quite quickly. Another mark of a champion. 'One thing about him, he has got a very big heart for such a young man. That is one thing I enjoy about him,' Stick said. 'Even if he makes mistakes he can bounce back and still back himself to make the decisions. We always want our attacking players to keep asking questions. 'He is young and he is going to make mistakes, but we enjoy watching him try. The impact that he makes for the team is the most important thing for us. 'I have never seen a youngster mature like he has, how he conducts himself around the team. His leadership skills … he is definitely one for the future.'
