Alabama sweeps Sunday doubleheader, picks up massive series win vs. Georgia
This past weekend, the Alabama Crimson Tide played one of their more important series' of the 2025 season so far, hosting the Georgia Bulldogs in Tuscaloosa for a three-game SEC set.
A multi-day span in which weather certainly played a role, it was Alabama who came out of the weekend victorious as well, taking two-of-three from the Bulldogs to pickup a needed series win.
The series originally started Friday night in Tuscaloosa for Game 1, which would produce one of Alabama's ugliest losses yet this season via a 19-3 defeat in seven innings. Alabama was out-hit a combined 15-4 in the contest, and aside from a Kade Snell three-RBI performance, there weren't many positives from Game 1.
In Game 2 however, the start of the contest was moved to Friday as a result of weather, but the game would not end until Sunday due to rain. The Crimson Tide would win the game as well by a final score of 9-3, led by a multi-RBI performance from each of Richie Bonomolo Jr., Bryce Fowler, and Justin Lebron, while closer Carson Ozmer had two shutout innings to close it out.
Shortly after, Alabama and Georgia met Sunday afternoon for the rubber match series finale, a game in which the Crimson Tide came away with a 5-4 victory. Alabama jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the contest after a RBI each from Will Hodo, Jason Torres, and Snell, the latter two of which were home runs.
Alongside that group, Lebron also had a big day offensively going 3-for-4 with a RBI, while Zane Adams struck out eight batters over four innings. Ozmer also collected a save, which was No. 16 on the year.
As a result, Alabama's record now sits at 39-13 overall for the season, while also now 15-12 in SEC play. Alabama's final week of the regular season will include a road series at Florida, starting Thursday night in Gainesville.

"Coach (Kirby) Smart is one of the most competitive coaches I have ever been against in my life," said Taaffe. "Like, physically hearing him on the sideline when I'm playing defense. I'm like who is this maniac?" "And it is their head coach trying to, you know, get a call or get something in and I think the team is embodied by the head coach. And he does a great job of embodying what their team is all about and to be honest, I think they out-physicaled us in that first game, so we gotta come with a physical nature and a sense of pride and knowing that if we want to get to where we want to go in December, then we gotta beat those guys," Taaffe said. Georgia and Texas will meet in Sanford Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Georgia-Texas game will be UGA's final SEC game of the regular season and it could be a preview of the 2025 SEC championship. Georgia and Texas' rivalry grew significantly on the same day Georgia and Texas took the stage at SEC media days. Texas beat out Georgia for five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson and then flipped five-star Georgia defensive line commitment James Johnson. The Dawgs and Longhorns have a budding rivalry and are both vying to be the best team in the SEC.

Serbian forward Filip Jovic expected to join Auburn basketball this week
Reports from On3 show that the forward from Serbia is ready to join the roster and begin working out for the 2025-26 season. The roster for Auburn's 2025-26 season is close to being finalized according to a report by On3. According to Justin Hokanson of Auburn Sports, forward Filip Jovic is scheduled to arrive on campus this week to begin preparing for the new season. Jovic signed with Auburn in May after playing two professional seasons for KK Megabasket in the FIBA European League. According to Hokanson, the lone issue preventing Jovic's move to Auburn was approval for his visa. His visa was recently approved, and he is now set to join the team on Saturday, July 19. Following its stellar season that ended with a Final Four appearance, Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers were in desperate need to fill holes within their frontcourt following the departures of Johni Broome, Dylan Cardwell, and Chaney Johnson. Pearl worked in the portal to land several worthy candidates including Keyshawn Hall, Keshawn Murphy, and Emeka Opurum for the four and five positions, and the addition of Jovic will ensure that Auburn will be versatile and deep at both forward positions, as well as at center. Jovic connected on 57% of his shots last season, averaging 12.3 points and 4.0 boards per game for KK Megabasket, a FIBA team based in Serbia. Jovic will be one of the many new faces to wear the Auburn uniform next season, as Tahaad Pettiford is the lone player from last year's roster to return. Pro Football Focus ranks Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love as top RB in 2026 NFL Draft class
Star Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love faces high expectations heading into the 2025 season after his breakout campaign last fall helped the Fighting Irish on their College Football Playoff run. Now, another projected strong season is sure to turn the heads of NFL personnel. In its newly released "2026 NFL Draft: Preseason Running Back Rankings," Pro Football Focus has Love ranked at No. 1, calling him the "jewel of the running back class." The 6-foot, 206-pound junior ran for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2024, and he caught 28 passes for 237 yards and two receiving scores. Included in those numbers is his school record-tying 98-yard touchdown run on the third play of the first-round CFP game against Indiana. A former high school track state champion, Love's speed is obvious on tape, but he also has the ability to force defenders to miss tackles, gain extra yards after contact and catch the ball out of the backfield. There is absolutely a strong possibility Love is the first RB off the board next spring in the 2026 NFL Draft. ND opens the new season at Miami on Sunday, August 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium (ABC). It will mark the 28th meeting between the two programs, with the Fighting Irish owning a record of 18-8-1 in the all-time series against the Hurricanes.
