Noah Lyles signs autographs for fans following his 200m win in Monaco.
LONDON – Olympic champion Noah Lyles reignites competition with Letsile Tebogo over 100m at Saturday's Diamond League meet in London, a week after the American marked his return to action with victory in the 200m over the Botswanan in Monaco.
Lyles runs his first 100m of 2025, headlining an afternoon featuring the cream of track and field athletes, winners of 75 medals between them from the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest and the 2024 Paris Olympics, across both individual and relay disciplines.
Here is a look at stand-out events at the 11th leg of the 15-meet Diamond League circuit:
Men's 100m
Tebogo, who won the 200m gold at last year's Paris Olympics as Lyles came third, was edged out in Monaco by the American, who clocked an impressive 19.88sec in his return to the track from a tendon injury.
Lyles said it had been tough watching early-season competition from home, but his comeback was timely with the World Championships in Tokyo on the horizon in September.
'I have a bye for the US Trials which makes it less stressful because it gives us the time to work on the races,' Lyles said.
'It gives us time to see what works and what doesn't and to be able to make moves from there.'

Toronto top seed Alexander Zverev got expert insight from retired rival Rafael Nadal

Find out what's new on ST website and app. Germany's Alexander Zverev said that after his 10-day visit to Spain he is still trying to persuade Toni Nadal to join his coaching team. TORONTO – Alexander Zverev returns to tennis with his confidence under repair after losing in the Wimbledon first round a month ago. And the world No. 3, playing as top seed at the ATP Toronto Masters, is bolstered by the unique insight from one-time rival Rafael Nadal. Zverev confirmed on July 27 in Toronto that he had sought advice – and possibly a new coach – as he travelled to Mallorca in July to visit Nadal's training academy on the Spaniard's home island. While apparently failing to sign Nadal's uncle Toni as his travelling coach, Zverev did have a chance to chat with Nadal, who retired last season. '(Toni is) a great coach, no question about that, but he's a personality that I think can give you confidence as well,' the German said. 'When he speaks and when Rafa speaks, you listen. 'They definitely spent a lot of hours talking to me, and Rafa gave me some great insight of what it is actually like to play against me. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. 'I'm trying to convince him to do more weeks with me, and we'll see how it goes, but he's a very busy man,' Zverev said. 'I'm not sure how much of him you'll see this year, because he gave his word to a lot of events. But we're talking about what a potential partnership could look like, for sure.' Singapore's Gan Ching Hwee sets new 400m freestyle national record at World Aquatics Championships

Singaporean national swimmer Gan Ching Hwee has broken a long-standing national record in the women's 400m freestyle, surpassing a mark that had stood for nearly 16 years. The previous record of 4:11.24 was set by Lynette Lim at the 2009 SEA Games. Competing at the World Aquatics Championship Singapore 2025, Gan clocked an impressive 4:09.81. She finished first in her heat and placed 13th overall, while the United States' Katie Ledecky topped the four heats with a time of 4:01.04. 'I was very pleasantly surprised that I went below my best time by that much,' Gan told reporters. 'Past a certain age, my best times have only been incrementally getting better. Especially the 400m, which has been quite a challenging event for me. I don't think I've made a massive breakthrough in the past few years.' This is not the first time Gan has rewritten the record books. During her Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Games, she broke national records in both the 800m and 1,500m freestyle events. In the 800m freestyle, Gan set a new national mark of 8:32.37, finishing seventh in her heat. She followed that with another record in the 1,500m freestyle, winning her heat in 16:10.13, although she narrowly missed out on the finals by one place.

India have not ruled out Bumrah for the final test, coach says

Find out what's new on ST website and app. FILE PHOTO: Cricket - International Test Match Series - Fourth Test - England v India - Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester, Britain - July 26, 2025 India's Jasprit Bumrah looks on Action Images via Reuters/Ed Sykes/File Photo MANCHESTER, England - India head coach Gautam Gambhir said they had not ruled out playing pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the final test against England at the Oval this week as they look to avoid a series defeat. Bumrah has already played three tests in the series, the maximum workload team management had targeted for the bowler after he spent three months on the sidelines with a back injury before returning to action in April. India snatched an unlikely draw in the fourth test at Old Trafford on Sunday but trail the hosts 2-1 in the five-match series. "We haven't had any conversation around the combination for the last test," Gambhir said. "No decision has been made on whether Jasprit Bumrah will play or not. Ultimately, whoever plays, they will try and do the job for the country." India captain Shubman Gill suggested it might be left up to Bumrah to make the call. "If he feels like he's fully fit and available for us, I think it would be a great deal for us," Gill told the BBC. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. Bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy had already returned home after a knee injury cut short his tour. Anshul Kamboj made his test debut in Manchester but Gambhir said they would have a full set of fit bowlers at their disposal for the test at the Oval, which begins on Thursday. "All the fast bowlers are fit," Gambhir said. "There are no injury concerns." However, India will be without stumper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has been ruled out of the series finale after fracturing his foot while batting in India's first innings in Manchester. REUTERS
