Shiv Sena UBT leader arrested in rape case, party suspects political conspiracy
Mr. Kale was arrested after midnight and booked under sections related to rape under BNS. 'The woman filed rape cases citing several incidents, with the prominent one being in 2023. We have received a four-day police custody of him to investigate the case from all angles,' Superintendent of Ahilyanagar Somnath Gharge told The Hindu.
The 21-year-old woman from Karjat filed a complaint on Monday at the Kotwali police station in Ahilyanagar. In the complaint, she claimed that Mr. Kale sexually assaulted her between 2023 and 2024 on the pretext of offering help with her marital disputes. The complaint has raised suspicions among the Opposition party as the arrest occurred days after Mr. Kale made headlines by alleging irregularities in civic road works within the city, involving rival NCP leaders. He accused Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporation of corruption amounting to ₹400 crore, involving 776 road works. He reportedly also presented evidence suggesting embezzlement of public funds.
Shiv Sena (UBT) has demanded an investigation as they claim that this is a 'conspiracy' to falsely implicate Mr. Kale. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut defended Mr. Kale and said, 'Eight days back, he revealed the road scam and IT park fraud associated with NCP MLA Sangram Jagtap, along with the evidence. All government is doing is charging him with false cases to suppress his voice.'
Mr. Raut asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis whether the Opposition has no right to protest or oppose the wrongdoings of the government, and what kind of law is this, saying Sangram Jagtap tried to frame our former Mayor as well.
Condemning the arrest, NCP- SP Ahilyanagar MP Nilesh Lanke said, 'Using political dictatorship to shut out people who are bringing scams of municipalities in the public domain, then this is not right. I request that the police administration should verify before taking complaints, and not succumb to political pressure.
Meanwhile, MLA Sangram Jagtap, speaking to The Hindu, has dismissed all the allegations and called it a political gimmick ahead of local body elections. 'These claims have no substance. Does Ahilyanagar's Municipal corporation even have so much funds for road concretisation?' said Mr. Jagtap, saying he has nothing to do with Mr. Kale.

Nashik: Five people were arrested by Trimbakeshwar police for allegedly booking online paid darshan passes for Trimbakeshwar temple in large quantities and then selling them at exorbitant rates to pilgrims visiting the twelve jyotirlingas. Inspector Mahesh Kulkarni said an FIR was registered with the police on Thursday regarding some people purchasing Rs 200 denomination passes issued by Shri Trimbakeshwar Devasthan Trust in bulk and then selling them to the pilgrims at exorbitant rates. "An FIR was registered with the police regarding the sale of such online passes to the pilgrims at very high rates. The police investigated the matter and found that there were five people staying in and around Trimbakeshwar involved in the act and arrested them late Thursday night," said Kulkarni. The paid darshan passes are issued across the counter as well as through the online process. The officer said that the police tracked the tickets, mobile numbers, and email IDs that revealed the purchase of the darshan passes in bulk by a group of five people using fake names and Aadhaar numbers. "The passes carry the names of pass holders. These are verified by the QR scanner at the entrance. The sellers of these passes inform the pilgrims the names they need to tell the security persons at the gates, if they are asked," the officer said. Police have filed charges under Sections 318 (4), 112, and 336 (3) of BNS against the accused who sold them for Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 each. Police claimed that five people sold at least 1,648 passes and pocketed the proceeds without sharing them with the trust. The five arrested are Dileep Jhole and Sudam Badade, both residents of Pegalwadi, Samadhan Chothe and Manohar Shevare, both from Rokadwadi, and Shivraj Aher, residing near Niranjani Akhada -- all in and around Trimbakeshwar town.

Two brothers arrested for raping 18-year-old girl for a year in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur
JAGATSINGHPUR: Police in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district have arrested two brothers, one of them a 60-year-old priest, for raping an 18-year-old girl for over a year. The matter came to the fore when the victim became pregnant and her family took her to the hospital. The shocking incident was reported from Banasara village under Kujang police limits. The accused were identified as 60-year-old Bhagyadhar Dash and his 46-year-old brother, Panchanan Dash, both residents of the same village. Bhagyadhar is a priest in the village temple, while Panchanan serves as a cook there. Police said the victim, who had lost her mother earlier, used to visit the temple for puja. Taking advantage of her vulnerability, the two brothers allegedly raped her multiple times over the past year and threatened her against disclosing the matter to anyone. They continued to sexually assault her, threatening to defame and harm her family if she spoke about the matter. Due to the threats and fear of consequences, the victim did not report the matter. Recently, she experienced abdominal pain and vomiting and her family took her for a medical check-up which revealed that she was six months pregnant. Upon questioning, she broke down and narrated the entire ordeal to her family. Earlier, a local village leader, identified as Tulu Bhai, had intervened and allegedly tried to suppress the matter by offering a financial settlement. He also threatened to kill the victim and her father if they went to the police. The two accused also threatened to burn them alive if a formal complaint was lodged with the police which further terrified the victim and her family. The victim's father filed a complaint with the Kujang police station against Bhagyadhar, Panchanan and Tulu. Sub-divisional police officer of Tirtol Chinmay Rout said police registered a case against the accused and the village leader under Sections 49, 62(2)(m), and 351(3) of the BNS, along with Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Both the victim and the accused were sent to the district headquarters hospital in Jagatsinghpur for medical examination. The two prime accused have been arrested and produced before a court today. Inquiry is going on to find out involvement of other accused in this case, he added.
