50-year-old man tried training a lion at home– What happened next will shock you
The man had been keeping lions and other exotic animals for years, and had just brought this particular lion home a few days before the incident.
The 50-year-old man was reportedly approaching the lion's cage when the animal suddenly attacked. He was bitten on his neck and chest, and sustained severe injuries before he could be rescued, according to Al-Ghad newspaper, as quoted by Metro. Sources familiar with the matter said the lion had been recently brought in, and the man was believed to be trying to train it.
The attack was so brutal that by the time help arrived, it was already too late. A neighbour who heard the man's screams rushed to the spot with a Kalashnikov rifle and fired multiple rounds at the lion, according to the Shafaq News Agency, as quoted by Metro.
The man's body was later shifted to a hospital in Najaf for further formalities. Local police confirmed that the lion was put down by the authorities as it refused to move away from the remains, according to the Rudaw news network.
This disturbing case has once again brought attention to Iraq's ongoing problem with the private keeping and illegal trade of wild animals. Despite repeated concerns raised by activists, wild species like lions continue to be sold and kept in residential areas without proper regulation.

Former Malian prime minister charged after criticising military rule online
A Malian court has detained and charged former Prime Minister Moussa Mara over a social media post critical of the country's military-led government. read more A Malian court has detained and charged former Prime Minister Moussa Mara over a social media post criticising shrinking democratic space under military rule in the West African nation, his lawyer said late Friday. Mara is one of few public figures in the country who has been willing to openly question moves taken this year to dissolve political parties and grant the military government, led by Assimi Goita, a five-year mandate without elections. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Last month, authorities formally approved Goita's five-year term and said it could be renewed as many times as necessary as Mali struggles to respond to a long-running jihadist insurgency. More from World Trump new tariffs: How India stacks up against rest of Asia Goita assumed power after military coups in 2020 and 2021. Mara had been summoned several times for questioning this month over a social media post dated July 4 expressing solidarity with government critics who have been jailed. On July 21, his lawyer, Mountaga Tall, posted on social media site X that Mara had been barred from boarding a flight to Senegal to participate in a regional conference on peace and security. On Friday, Mara was summoned by a judicial cybercrimes unit, and a prosecutor charged him with offences including undermining the credibility of the state and spreading false information, Tall said in a statement. Mara's trial has been scheduled for September 29, Tall said. A government spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The case against Mara comes amid worsening insecurity in Mali. The past few months have seen a surge of deadly attacks by Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an al-Qaeda-linked group that also operates in Burkina Faso and Niger. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Analysts say the group's battlefield tactics have grown increasingly sophisticated and that it has amassed substantial resources through raids on military posts, cattle rustling, hijacking of goods, kidnappings and taxes on local communities. On Friday, the group said it had ambushed a convoy of Malian soldiers and Russian mercenaries in the Tenenkou locality in central Mali. Mali's army confirmed the ambush in a statement on X. Neither statement gave a death toll.

Gujarat ATS did not share info on Al-Qaeda operative's arrest: HM Dr G Parameshwara says it's SoP violation
BENGALURU: Following the arrest of a 30-year-old woman from Hebbal by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) for allegedly having links with a terror module linked to Al-Qaeda, Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Thursday said the investigating agency has not shared any information on this. The Gujarat ATS arrested Shama Parveen Ansari, who had been staying in Bengaluru for the last three years, on Tuesday. Shama has been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act Terrorist Act, and BNS. 'The woman alleged to have links with the Al-Qaeda network is not from Karnataka. The Gujarat ATS which arrested her has not shared any information. There were previous reports that sleeper cells are active in Bengaluru and the investigating agencies had found them,' the minister said. 'The accused, allegedly involved in manufacturing MDMA, arrived in Mysuru about 20 days ago. When one of the accused was caught in Mumbai, leads from that arrest led the police here. Even in our state, when such cases come to light, our police go to other states to arrest the accused. This is a standard procedure followed across the country,' the minister added. The ATS, along with support from local police, raided Shama's house and seized multiple digital devices. Shama, a graduate who was unemployed, was staying with her younger brother, a software engineer. She is alleged to have been a key conspirator and handling social media accounts by posting information related to radical ideology. She is accused of organising activities from Karnataka. She reportedly shared extremist videos linked to Al-Qaeda operatives on social media platforms, especially Instagram, from the house in Hebbal. She was sharing provocative and violent content, including jihadi videos and messages. The officials found out that she was running two Facebook pages and an Instagram account with nearly 10,000 followers. She was reportedly posting content related to radicalisation of youths towards terrorism.
