The advanced version of Kavach 4.0 on 324 km of the Mathura-Kota section has been approved by an independent safety assessor and is ready for commissioning, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday.
Asked to give an update in the Lok Sabha on the installation status of Kavach in the Indian Railways by June 30, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reiterated his earlier statements, saying the automatic train-protection system is provided progressively in a phased manner and it has already been deployed on 1,548 route km in the South Central Railway and North Central Railway.
"Presently, work is in progress on Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah corridors (approximately 3,000 RKm). Track side works on these routes have been completed on about 2,200 RKm as on 30.06.2025," Vaishnaw said in a written reply."After extensive and elaborate trials in 324 kms of Mathura-Kota section for advance version of Kavach 4.0, the section is approved by Independent Safety Assessor (ISA) and the section is ready for commissioning. This is also the first section to be approved by ISA for Kavach version 4.0," he added.Providing the details of the installation of various components of Kavach, the minister said the laying of optical fibre cable has been done up to 5,856 km, 619 telecom towers have been installed, 708 stations have got Kavach equipment, 1,107 locos have been fitted with the Kavach system and the installation of track-side equipment has been completed on 4,001 route km.
Vaishnaw said the installation of Kavach has been sanctioned on railway routes, such as Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Bhusawal including Mumbai Area, Igatpuri-Badnera-Nagpur-Narkher, Balharshah, Lonavla-Pune-Daund-Baramati, Ankai-Pune-Miraj-Kolhapur, Kurdwadi-Latur, Purna-Akola, including branch lines in Maharashtra, totalling 3,856 route km.He also informed the House that similarly, 1,219 route km in Madhya Pradesh, including in the Narker-Jujharpur, Amla-Parasia-Chindwara, Wagoda-Khandwa, Dhaulpur-Agasod, Itarsi-Bina, Ratlam-Jawad and Nagda-Bhopa sections, have been sanctioned for Kavach installation."The cost for provision of track side including station equipment of Kavach is approximately Rs 50 lakh/km and cost for provision of Kavach equipment on locomotives is approximately Rs 80 lakh/loco," the minister said."The funds utilised on Kavach works so far up to June '25 is Rs 2,015 crore. The allocation of funds during the year 2025-26 is Rs 1,673.19 crore. Requisite funds are made available as per the progress of works," he added.
Kavach aids the loco pilot in running rains within specified speed limits by automatic application of brakes, in case the loco pilot fails to do so, and also helps the trains run safely during inclement weather. PTI

Candidates seeking upgrades can also rearrange their previously selected programme-college preferences that were ranked higher than their current allocation. Mid-Entry Window Now Open A special mid-entry option is available from 5PM on August 8 to 4:59 PM on August 10. Candidates opting for this route must pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 1,000. This opportunity is open to: Those who missed earlier CSAS registration phases. Candidates rejected in previous rounds due to issues like incorrect subject mapping, invalid documents, or not meeting programme-specific eligibility. Such applicants can now edit their subject preferences and submit revised choices. The seat allocation will consider only those preferences submitted by 5:00 pm on August 10. Third Round Allocation Details The third round allocations will be based on the candidate data available as of 5:00 PM, August 10. Notably, the minimum marks and rank cutoffs for this round will differ from previous ones. The university has clarified that no complaints regarding variations in cutoffs or ranks will be considered. Delhi University begins third phase of CSAS 2025-26 admissions with new options Delhi University admissions 2025: Delhi University has commenced the third phase of the admission process for the 2025-26 academic session under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). This phase introduces the options of seat upgradation, new seat allotment, mid-entry applications, and category-based admissions. The third round of CSAS is open to students seeking to upgrade their previously allotted seats or re-enter the admission process. It also accommodates applications under special categories, including children or widows of armed forces personnel (CW), extra-curricular activities (ECA), sports quota, and ward quota. Seat upgradation and preference reordering window open Students who secured admission in either Round I or II of CSAS can now upgrade their college-course combinations. A specific window has been made available for this purpose, starting from 5 PM on August 2 to 4:59 PM on August 3. During this period, students must indicate whether they wish to upgrade and may also re-order their preference lists accordingly. After the conclusion of this window, individual colleges will begin the process of allocating upgraded or new seats based on the revised preferences and availability. Opportunity for mid-entry and correction The university will also open a mid-entry window from 5 PM on August 8 to 4:59 PM on August 10. This facility is aimed at students who could not participate in the first phase of CSAS, those who were unable to complete the second phase, or applicants whose previous submissions were rejected due to incorrect documentation or subject mapping errors. Students applying through the mid-entry window must pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 1,000. They will be allowed to make corrections in their subject-related details and update their course preferences. Candidates who were not allotted a seat in the previous rounds are also eligible to apply under this provision. Preference finalisation and vacant seat matrix Students have been advised to finalise their course and college preferences based on the updated vacancy matrix before 5 PM on August 10. Preferences submitted by this time will be considered for the next round of seat allocation. Seat allotment and fee payment timeline Colleges will allocate seats under this round from August 13 to August 17. Students who receive a seat offer during this period must accept the seat to proceed further. The final deadline for depositing the online admission fee is 4:59 PM on August 19 (Tuesday).
