NCSI signs memorandum of cooperation in fields of training and research

Muscat: The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with the Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS) in Muscat on Thursday. The MoC seeks to develop academic training and scholarly research.
Under the terms of the memorandum, the two sides will cooperate to enhance practical training opportunities for college students, provide academic services that meet the needs of both parties and implement studies and research projects.
The MoC also aims to expand the use of smart solutions in statistical and information technologies and develop training programmes to hone the skills of national human resources.
The MoC was signed by Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of the NCSI, and Dr. Muneer Mohammed Al Maskari, CEO of the MCBS.
Al Barwani said that MoC affirms the two sides' commitment to establish a practical environment for innovation and research in the Sultanate of Oman. He added that partnership with the MCBS constitutes a milestone in grooming a generation of national cadres capable of effectively contributing to building an integrated knowledge system that supports the process of decision-making based on reliable data.
Al Barwani pointed out that the MoC also enhances efforts to develop statistical work in the Sultanate of Oman by sharing expertise and resources. He observed that scholarly research represents a fundamental pillar of economic and social growth and a key measure in achieving sustainable development.

Muscat – The total value of real estate transactions in Oman this year was RO1.113bn by the end of May, reflecting a 10% decline compared to RO1.237bn during the same period in 2024, according to data released by National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). Despite the overall drop, fees collected from legal transactions rose 13.5% from RO27.2mn in 2024 to RO30.9mn. The traded value of sales contracts grew 17.3% to RO536.3mn, compared to RO457.2mn in the same period last year. However, the number of sales contracts dropped 2.6% from 28,023 to 27,302. Mortgage activity saw a sharp decline, with the total value of mortgage contracts falling 26.1% to RO572.7mn across 9,140 contracts. This compares to RO774.5mn recorded from 8,596 contracts by the end of May 2024. Swap transactions also declined, with 538 contracts worth RO4.6mn registered by the end of May 2025, compared to 583 contracts valued at RO5.2mn in the same period last year. The number of real estate title deeds issued saw a marginal increase of 0.2% from 94,194 in 2024 to 94,414 this year. Deeds issued to Gulf Cooperation Council nationals rose notably by 24.4% from 528 in 2024 to 657 in the same period this year.

Muscat – Mobile service subscriptions in Oman have risen to 8,130,355, exceeding the country's population of 5,315,155. On average, each person in Oman now has 1.53 mobile subscriptions, according to the latest figures from National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The data indicates robust growth in the telecommunications sector, supported by expanding digital services and increased adoption of smart technologies. Active postpaid mobile subscriptions rose 5.6% year-on-year to 1,239,509 by the end of May 2025. Prepaid mobile subscriptions also grew, increasing 3.1% to 5,335,847. Subscriptions in the Internet of Things (IoT) category recorded the highest growth – 118.7% – to 1,554,999. Overall, mobile service subscriptions increased 15.2% compared to the same period in 2024. Active mobile broadband subscriptions totalled 5,414,124 by the end of May 2025. Fixed broadband services saw a 2.6% rise to 588,015 subscriptions. Fibre optic connections grew 11.4% to 339,279, while fixed 5G subscriptions rose 2.1% to 215,850. In contrast, fixed 4G subscriptions dropped 38.1% to 19,654. Digital subscriber line (DSL) subscriptions declined sharply – 50.8% – to 11,806. Satellite Internet subscriptions decreased 2.1% to 653. Other types of Internet services – including those delivered via power lines, Ethernet and leased lines – fell 12% to 773 subscriptions.

Muscat - The latest statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicated that active postpaid mobile phone subscriptions increased by 5.6 percent to 1,239,509 by the end of May 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. Active prepaid mobile phone subscriptions also recorded a growth of 3.1 percent to 5,335,847, while Internet of Things (IoT) subscriptions achieved exceptional growth of 118.7 percent, reaching 1,554,999 by the end of May 2025. Statistics show that the total number of mobile service subscriptions in the Sultanate of Oman reached 8,130,355 by the end of May 2025, registering a 15.2 percent increase compared to the end of May 2024. The total number of active mobile broadband internet subscriptions reached 5,414,124 by the end of May 2025. Statistics show that the number of active subscriptions to fixed broadband internet services increased by 2.6 percent to reach 588,015 subscriptions by the end of May 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. Regarding fiber optic services, they witnessed an 11.4 percent increase, reaching 339,279 subscriptions. Fixed 5G subscriptions also increased by 2.1 percent, reaching 215,850 subscriptions by the end of May 2025, while fixed 4G subscriptions declined by 38.1 percent, recording 19,654 subscriptions. Digital subscriber line subscriptions also decreased by 50.8 percent to 11,806, and satellite subscriptions decreased by 2.1 percent to 653. Other subscriptions—which include internet via power lines, Ethernet, and leased internet lines—declined by 12 percent to 773 by the end of May 2025, compared to the same period last year.
