Ito's second foot break confirmed as Bayern's defence ravaged
Bayern Munich defender Hiroki Ito will be sidelined for an extended period due to another metatarsal fracture, the Bundesliga leaders said on Sunday.
The Japan international, who joined Bayern from VfB Stuttgart last June, had already suffered a break in the same foot shortly after moving and was out until February.

"After the injuries to Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano, Hiroki is now the third defender to be ruled out in a very short time. We will now have to pool all our resources even more to continue pursuing our goals," head of sport Max Eberl said in a statement.
Canada's Davies suffered a cruciate knee ligament tear on international duty, with Bayern considering legal action, while France's Upamecano also has a knee problem.
Ito sustained his injury during the 3-2 Bundesliga victory against St Pauli on Saturday.
He came on in the 58th minute but had to leave the pitch again in the 89th minute, leaving Bayern down to 10 after they had used all their substitutes.

"The news of a serious injury hitting Hiroki again is very hard for all of us. He had just fought his way back after months of rehab and is now out for a long time again – you can only imagine what he's going through right now," Eberl said.
"We will give him all the support he needs. He's a fighter, and we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch. Keep your head up, Hiroki – Bayern are by your side."
Bayern have cover across the backline but any further defensive injuries could seriously complicate the Bundesliga run-in and their Champions League tilt.
The backline from the first half against St Pauli - consisting of Konrad Laimer, Eric Dier, Min jae Kim and Raphaël Guerreiro - is likely to be the defence for the decisive weeks ahead.

Leipzig sign defender Finkgräfe from Cologne
Leipzig's Benjamin Henrichs (L) and Cologne's Max Finkgraefe battle for the ball during the German Bundesliga soccer match between 1. FC Cologne and RB Leipzig at RheinEnergieStadion. RB Leipzig have signed Finkgraefe from Cologne, the Bundesliga club said in a statement on Thursday. Federico Gambarini/dpa RB Leipzig have signed 21-year-old Max Finkgräfe from Cologne, the Bundesliga club said in a statement on Thursday. The defender signed a contract until June 2030, the club said. He's expected to be a back-up for Germany international David Raum. Advertisement "I'm really happy that my future lies in Leipzig. The club is known for its good work with young players, so it wasn't a tough decision once I knew Leipzig were interested in me," Finkgräfe said. He played 40 competitive games for Cologne over the last two seasons – 24 of those were in the Bundesliga. Last November, he made his debut for Germany's under-20 team. "Despite his young age, Max already has Bundesliga experience and plenty of potential to develop further. His signing gives us greater flexibility and more options at left-back," managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer said.

Barcelona ‘have been showing interest' in Serie A star
La Liga giants Barcelona have expressed a recent interest in the signing of a leading member of the defensive ranks at Italian outfit Inter Milan. That's according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Denzel Dumfries as the player in question. Advertisement Those of a Barcelona persuasion will of course be well accustomed to the talents boasted by wing-back Dumfries at this point. As much comes after the Dutch international racked up a hefty five direct goal contributions, en route to Inter sending Hansi Flick's troops packing from the Champions League this past season. And the significance of as much, evidently, was not lost on those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou. As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano, after confirming that Dumfries' contract at San Siro contains an altogether reasonable €25 million release clause: 'Understand Barcelona have been showing interest in the recent months but no formal proposal or official approach made.' 2025 Gold Cup Rules: Why Yellow And Red Cards Won't Affect World Cup Co-Hosts
Stars of the United States and Mexico won't have to worry about missing out on the first game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup when they take the field for the Concacaf Gold Cup final on Sunday (4 p.m. PT on FOX). That's because any potential suspension from either a red card or multiple yellow cards will be served prior to next year's World Cup. In a recent change by Concacaf, players from the three 2026 World Cup co-hosts — Canada, Mexico, and the United States — can serve that suspension in the team's next international friendly match. The next competition for those three countries is technically the 2026 World Cup, but due to the exception outlined by FIFA for host nations, they aren't affected by potential suspensions based on card accumulation. That's particularly relevant for Canada, which won't have Jacob Shaffelburg for its next match after he picked up two yellows in the Gold Cup quarterfinal against Guatemala. Shaffelburg would have missed out Canada's next competitive match (their 2026 World Cup opener) but instead can serve the suspension when the team travels to Romania for a Sept. 5 friendly match. It also makes a difference for Mexico and the U.S., which have nine combined yellow cards going into Sunday's final (four from the U.S., five from Mexico). An additional yellow card or a red card for any of the already-cautioned players will result in a suspension for their friendlies in September. The change comes as a result of article 69.3 of FIFA's disciplinary code, which states that "if a representative team is hosting a final competition and is consequently not required to participate in qualifying matches to reach the final competition of this tournament and its next official match is in that final competition, any match suspension shall be carried over to the representative team's next friendly match." This differs from Concacaf's Disciplinary Code, which states that any unserved suspensions outstanding at the end of the competition will be carried over to the "next official match of the player or team official's National Team."
