‘Bieber fever': Music playlists of world elite exposed

News.com.aua day ago
Vice President JD Vance is a big fan of the Backstreet Boys' 'I Want It That Way.'
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt gets pumped up with Beyonce's 'Run the World (Girls)' — and there's one very prominent politician who loves Nelly's 'Hot In Herre.'
That's all according to the Panama Playlists — a site that quietly went live Wednesday and claims to reveal the private music tastes of a slew of public figures.
'I found the real Spotify accounts of celebrities, politicians, and journalists.
'Many use their real names. With a little sleuthing, I could say with near-certainty: yep, this is them,' the anonymous eavesdropper wrote.
'We've been scraping their accounts since summer 2024.
'Playlists, live listening feed, everything. I know what songs they played, when, and how many times,' they wrote, also stating the project has not affiliation with company 'Spotify.'
The anonymous researcher told The Post that they became convinced in the authenticity of each account as the months of monitoring went on.
'I gained confidence in each person by looking at lots of signals. An example is Pam Bondi. Her longtime partner is John Wakefield, and her profile has an old playlist called 'john' and an old shared playlist with a user named 'John Wakefield,' so that gives me a lot of confidence it is her account.'
'Karoline Leavitt's profile has a playlist called 'Baby Shower,' and she had a baby a month after the playlist was made,' the owner of the website told The Post, emphasising they only collected publicly available information.
It all seems to be a bit of summer fun, that reveals the questionable, ironic and sometimes too-on-the-nose music choices of America's rich and powerful.
'Heard of the Panama Papers? That exposed offshore bank accounts. This is about onshore vibes,' the site says.
Here is a sample of what 'Panama Playlists' found.
Vice President JD Vance is a fan of the songs 'I Want It That Way' by the Backstreet Boys and 'One Time' by Justin Bieber, both of which appear on his oft-listened to 'Making Dinner' playlist.
The millennial veep also appears to be a fan of pop-punk, with several songs from the early aughts favourite Death Cab for Cutie appearing on his playlist 'Gold On The Ceiling.'
On that playlist, Vance shows off an eclectic taste in tunes, selecting songs 'Fade Into You' by Mazzy Star, 'Pepper,' by Butthole Surfers, 'Signs' by band Tesla, and 'Take a Walk' from Passion Pit.
FTX fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried has three public playlists — 'rap' 'soft' and 'loud' — which feature plenty of Eminem, also Death Cab for Cutie, and song 'Young Dumb, Broke' from Khalid.
Karoline Leavitt had the songs 'Run the World (Girls)' by Beyonce and 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' from Cyndi Lauper on her 'Baby Shower' playlist.
Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson's liked tracks on his Pandora account include 'Parachutes' from the movie 'Air Force One' and the 'Finding Nemo/Nemo Egg' theme performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
He's also into 'One Night Love Affair' by Bryan Adams and 'May It Be' by Enya.
Social media gadfly Taylor Lorenz's public playlists include 'Older Millenial College Rager TBT' and 'Breakup Songs' —- but her 'Favs' include tracks 'Romeo and Juliet' from Dire Straits and 'You Can Get It If You Really Want' from reggae legend Jimmy Cliff.
Pam Bondi prefers the more upbeat tracks on her playlist named 'Pam' — including Nelly's immortal jam 'Hot In Herre,' 'Hands to Myself' by Selena Gomez, and 'Fix My Eyes' from band For King & Country.'
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's 'My Shazam Tracks' — meaning songs he likely looked up — include the well-known 'Get Ur Freak On' by Missy Elliott, 'Make Me Feel Your Love,' by Adele, and 'Vivir Mi Vida' from Marc Anthony.
Coinsbase CEO Brian Armstrong has a playlist called 'Repeat' that is the song 'Long Way Home' by Gareth Emery saved 60 times.
And Florida Governer Ron DeSantis is a major classic rock fan with his only public playlist featuring iconic songs 'Ring of Fire' by Johnny Cash, 'Southern Nights' from the rhinestone cowboy Glen Campbell, and The Charlie Daniels Band's 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia.'

Trump sends nuclear subs towards Russia over ‘provocative statements'

Donald Trump has ordered two US nuclear submarines to be moved closer to Russia in response to 'highly provocative statements' from the nation's former President Dmitry Medvedev. Mr Medvedev, now deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, taunted Mr Trump and his threats towards Russia over a Ukraine ceasefire, in a post on X earlier this week, writing 'each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war'. Taking to Truth Social on Friday, Mr Trump announced he had 'ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that'. 'Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances,' he added, without revealing the location of the submarines. Mr Trump didn't say whether a specific statement from Medvedev prompted the retaliation, as the Kremlin official has been on an anti-American tirade for weeks. The President also didn't specify whether he referred to nuclear-powered or nuclear-armed submarines. The location of submarines is usually kept secret by the military, so the public may never know where or whether the ships will be moved. Mr Trump's threat is the first time he's suggested using the nuclear option in his battle with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has defied America's warnings about continuing Russia's war on Ukraine.

What's on in Darwin August 2 and 3, 2025: Festival tips, 360 at Mayberry, and crocodile racing

WHAT'S ON THIS WEEKEND Music lovers are again in for a treat this weekend. If you've been keeping up with my Gig Guide on We Are Locals, you'll know that all weekend this weekend is the 53rd Top Half Folk Festival. But this year is a little different, it's at Mt Bundy Station, on the banks of the Adelaide River. The festival is bringing together more than 40 artists from across the NT and beyond, for four days and three nights of music and entertainment. It started yesterday but you can just go for the day any day this weekend, or grab yourself a weekend pass. It's a bit of a long weekend treat, going out to a gig on a Sunday night – and fans of Aussie hip hop can catch 360 with his special guest PEZ at Mayberry from 8pm. If you're keen to get on the microphone yourself, it's First Sunday Blues at Tracy Village from 3pm. Head along to listen to the local blues bands, or sign yourself up to belt out a few tracks on the board when you enter. And Monday, of course, is the Darwin Cup – but if you're feeling like going full Territory, check out the 'Croc Cup Carnival' at the Berry Springs Tavern on Sunday from 2pm. Yes – it's croc racing … But don't worry, they're only freshies. SOMEWHERE YOU NEED TO EAT It's an oldie but a goodie – so if you've been there, I am sure this is a welcome reminder to bring it back into the rotation, and if not: you need to try the Moorish lunch special. For $35, you get the choice of three tapas plates and a glass of Sangria – and if you go with friends and all get different plates, it's a seriously good way of tasting the whole menu. If you're going to order your own meals, try the Portobello mushroom with cauliflower puree, almonds, currants and truffle oil. YUM. LOCAL'S TIP It's officially less than a week to go until Darwin Festival – a reminder to break free of the NT stereotype of buying tickets at the last minute, and actually pre-booking your shows to avoid disappointment, and support the arts. Speaking of supporting: brand new gym and recreation facility, Gecko Climb, opens this weekend. It's four years in the making. There's some serious climbing equipment there and they're also running a cafe, workout spaces, team building areas – the whole shebang! It takes a lot of work to bring something of that scale to life, and I always have great respect for people who go all in to bring new things to Darwin – so get down and check it out.

Tyra Banks makes shocking confession about ‘disgusting and erotic' addiction

Tyra Banks knows how to pick 'em. The supermodel revealed her 'disgusting and erotic' habit of popping pimples and picking dirt from other people's toes during Thursday's episode of US show Today With Jenna & Friends. 'I like to pick. I like the toe, and if it has some stuff in it, I don't mind digging it out,' Banks, who is co-hosting this week, told Jenna Bush Hager. 'But I have a kit. You have to have a kit. Some alcohol, you know. Some stuff!' When Bush Hager asked who she targets with these rituals, the America's Next Top Model alum admitted that anyone in her household is fair game, reports Page Six. 'Anyone that wants it — my mum, my friends, my man, my son,' Banks confessed, referencing her beau, Louis Bélanger-Martin. 'And then, a pimple? If you had a pimple, I would be staring at you.' Banks labelled her 'addiction' as 'disgusting and erotic at the same time,' explaining, 'It touches those parts of me.' However, the TV personality, 51, does have her limits. 'Nether regions. I'm not picking up in those,' Banks said. 'If somebody's like, 'Oh, can you check this?' I'm like, 'No … that's where I draw the line.' Chest up and knees down? It's on. I'm not popping and picking nothing [outside of] there.' The model further grossed out Bush Hager as she explained that her foot-focused obsession can get quite stinky at times. 'The toenail, because there's been stuff in there. The jam. The toe jam is up in the nail, and then you pick, and sometimes it's different colours. Sometimes it's brown, sometimes it's green,' she described. Banks has been romantically linked to Canadian businessman Bélanger-Martin since August 2018. In November 2019, we exclusively reported that the pair was taking the next step in their relationship by moving in together. 'Tyra and Louis live together but Louis always moves around a lot for business reasons,' an insider told us, adding that he and his ex-wife, Valérie Martin Scraire, have an apartment in England, a house in Barbados, and a home in Magog, Quebec. 'Louis also spends some time with his own child in England and around the world for business,' said the source. 'Tyra's child has his own room at Louis [and] Valerie's house in Magog and Tyra moved some of her stuff — clothes, jewellery — there too.'
