‘Vidya Shakti' launched in A.P. govt schools to help slow learners catch up in academics
Speaking after inaugurating Vidya Shakti, a five-day training programme for teachers from the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), Andhra Pradesh Residential Schools and Andhra Pradesh Model Schools, proposed to be implemented in a phased manner, on Wednesday (June 25, 2025), Mr. Rama Raju explained that Vidya Shakti was an online remedial teaching initiative launched for students lagging behind academically in government schools and colleges across Andhra Pradesh.
He said as part of the initiative, technology and innovative teaching methods would be used to offer additional coaching in Mathematics, Science, and English to students after school hours. 'Currently, the program is being implemented in 4,424 Zilla Parishad, Government, and Municipal schools, along with 576 KGBVs, A.P. Residential Schools and A.P. Model Schools across the State,' he informed, emphasising that the main objectives of 'Vidya Shakti' included improving learning outcomes, reducing dropout rates and increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in educational institutions across the state.
From this academic year, he said subject-wise time slots would be scheduled and every student was expected to follow a fixed timetable. He also said it was important to identify bright students and provide them with additional support to help them excel in the Class 10 Board examinations.
The event was attended by Secretary, A.P. Residential Educational Institutions Society (APREIS) V.N. Mastanayya, Director of Government Examinations and Additional Director, IT wing, K.V. Srinivasulu Reddy, Director of the AP State Council of Educational Research and Technology (SCERT) M.V. Krishna Reddy and representatives from IIT-Madras Pravartak.

State prepares for Olympiad 2025
Ranchi: The Jharkhand Council of Educational Research and Training (JCERT) has initiated preparations for the Jharkhand State Olympiad-2025 scheduled to be held in the second week of Nov. The Olympiad aims to foster academic excellence and nurture a spirit of healthy competition among students from govt and govt-aided schools across the state. Students studying in Classes VII, VIII, and IX will be eligible to participate in the Olympiad. The registration process has commenced, and the last date for submission is Aug 5, 2025. Interested students are required to fill out the Google registration form with the help of their respective school headmasters. Registration Link: The Olympiad will include examinations in English, mathematics, science, social science, and general knowledge, and will be conducted in both Hindi and English mediums. Each student may choose a maximum of two subjects. The exam pattern will consist of two sections. The first section will have 50 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), while the second section will contain 5 Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions. The total duration of the exam will be 75 minutes, including the initial 10 minutes for reading the questions. Importantly, there will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. It will be conducted in two phases: the district-level (first phase) and the state-level (second phase). Students who excel subject-wise in the first phase will qualify for the second phase. JCERT will provide all participating schools with the required question papers and OMR sheets. No examination or registration fee will be charged to any student. Director Shashi Ranjan has instructed all district education officers and district superintendents of education to ensure maximum participation in their respective districts. Headmasters have also been advised to actively motivate students to register and prepare for the said, "Jharkhand has consistently performed well in this Olympiad, securing the position of national champion for the past two years, reflecting the growing academic strength of the state's govt school students. The 2025 Olympiad is expected to further boost academic competitiveness and inspire excellence across the state."

‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps' movie review: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby's star power propels first family's stratospheric ride
WandaVision's Matt Shakman does retro so elegantly; not as a museum piece but a living, breathing world, no matter how unreal. And so it is with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the second reboot of MCU's Fantastic Four movies based on Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's comic books. Set in 1960, the film revels in its 2001: A Space Odyssey aesthetic. It was a conscious choice by Shakman, who wanted the film to look like Stanley Kubrick had made it in 1965. So there are practical sets and props, fashions, colours and sequences shot using a 16mm film camera. Disaster strikes right then with the appearance of the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), who informs the fab four of the planet-devouring Galactus' (Ralph Ineson) plans for earth. The ravenous being offers to spare Earth in return for Reed and Sue's son, Franklin, putting further pressure on the super-beings and turning the frightened humans against them. Reed puts his super brain to work to figure out a way to defeat Galactus while keeping his family and the world at large, safe. Sue uses her high emotional intelligence to calm the earthlings. Johnny, who is deeply enamoured with the Silver Surfer, deciphers her language and tries to communicate with her. He has clearly eschewed his womanising ways, which was anyway very '80s. Ben is the proverbial Rock of Gibraltar everyone leans on when they need a moment. Family is the new superpower with everyone stepping up for each other. There are jokes and eye-wateringly spectacular action sequences (Johnny's first contact with the Silver Surfer is heartbreakingly beautiful), for sure, but that baby Franklin is beyond sweet, even if his idea of light reading is Charles Darwin's, On the Origin of Species! Natasha Lyonne further ups the charisma quotient as Ben's love interest, the school teacher, Rachel Rozman, while the sociological underpinnings are provided by Paul Walter Hauser's Mole Man. This first film in Phase Six of the MCU, with a sequel in development and a mid-credit sequence pointing to Avengers: Doomsday, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, has all the ingredients for blistering fun at the movies. How a teen's curious science experiment helped discover nature's natural air purifier which can reverse air pollution
Sometimes, the most surprising discoveries come from unexpected places. A similar experience happened when a California teenager decided to test whether a simple houseplant could do more than beautify a room. The teen was highly interested in science, and scientific curiosity led to a great and unexpected discovery! Can an Ivy actually clean the surroundings? The young researcher Ryan Kim shared his experiment at the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology's annual meeting in Anaheim, California. It was also co-authored by Hilary Spyers-Duran of West Coast Clinical Trials in Long Beach, California. His experiment revealed strong air-cleansing potential in English ivy. Over a 12-hour period, the plant reduced airborne mold particles by approximately 78.5% and fecal matter particulates by over 94%. How did he set up his experiment? Kim placed moldy bread and canine feces in sealed containers, with measurements taken before and after placement with the English ivy. After six hours, mold decreased by about 60% and fecal particles by 58%; after twelve hours, reductions rose to 78% and 94%, respectively. How does ivy 'clean' air? The idea can be a natural alternative to artificial air purifiers as a low-maintenance plant that does something typically handled by machines. However, indoor-air specialist Jeffrey Siegel from the University of Texas, who studies building air quality, warns that one should actually prevent contaminants from entering the home in the first place. He also pointed out the limitations of small-scale tests compared to real rooms, noting that soil itself can emit microbes or pollutants. While this alternative might look interesting, English ivy comes with clear warnings that it is toxic to humans and pets if ingested, so it shouldn't be placed where children or animals can reach it. How do conventional air purifiers compare to this? At the same conference, researchers tested three air purifier brands in mold-infested homes. A Honeywell HEPA filter unit cleared 72–84% of mold particles within one hour. In contrast, other purifiers showed much lower removal rates: around 43–50% for Living Air and only 16–28% for the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze, even after three hours.
