After Kushinagar sackings, UP begins scrutiny of 69k asst teacher recruitment
'We have written a letter to all 75 basic shiksha adhikaris (BSAs) of the state,' said Kanchan Verma, director general, school education, on Saturday. 'Kushinagar responded swiftly, resulting in cancellation of 20 appointments. Other districts have now been asked to begin verification.'
Verma said the eligibility criteria clearly required candidates to pass the qualifying exam in a single attempt. 'The teachers whose appointments were cancelled had cleared some papers through compartment exams or in second attempts, which makes them ineligible.'
'The appointments in question were part of the 69,000 assistant teacher recruitment drive notified on December 1, 2018,' BSA Kushinagar said. During a recent document check in Kushinagar, irregularities in academic records were found in multiple cases. Further examination confirmed that 20 candidates had submitted forged documents, said officials.
A department-level investigation has been launched, and similar checks are now underway in other districts. 'The process of document verification is on, and action will be taken wherever discrepancies are found,' Verma said.
Referring to previous court observations, she said the submission of fake documents cannot be treated as a clerical mistake and will invite strict departmental action.
Officials said the verification across districts will take time as thousands of appointments under the 2018 drive need to be reviewed.

The Uttar Pradesh Government Monday ordered the transfer of 23 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, including district magistrates (DMs) of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, and Prayagraj, among others. Medha Roopam, a 2014 batch IAS officer, has been appointed the new District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), in place of Manish Kumar Verma. Verma has been transferred to Prayagraj in the same role. Considered a trusted officer of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Roopam was a competitive shooter before joining the Indian Administrative Service. Verma, a 2011‑batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer, earlier served as Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) in Noida Authority briefly until May 2017 and held posts as Chief Development Officer in Mathura and Pratapgarh before being appointed as the DM of Gautam Buddha Nagar. Prayagraj DM Ravindra Kumar Mandar has been moved to Ghaziabad as the new district magistrate. Mandar, a 2012‑batch IAS officer, was the DM of Jaunpur and then Prayagraj, where he was entrusted with overseeing major events, including the Prayagraj Kumbh. Deepak Kumar Meena, who had been serving as Ghaziabad district magistrate, will now take charge as the DM of Gorakhpur, the constituency of Adityanath. A 2011‑batch IAS officer and alumnus of IIT Kharagpur (Electrical Engineering), Meena served as Ghaziabad DM for approximately six months from January 19, 2025. He was praised for handling Kanvar Yatra safely in 2025, and conducting frequent public hearings. His recent responsibilities included leading a high‑level probe into the Prateek Grand City sewage flooding incident, appointed by the Meerut division commissioner to investigate illegal drain diversion and procedural lapses. Online frauds cheat investors with fake luxury goods scheme, 8 arrested
Noida: Eight members of an online fraud racket that lured people with promises of becoming millionaires were arrested on Sunday. The accused operated via Google Meet, convincing targets to invest Rs 1.5 lakh by purchasing fake luxury goods like gold, diamonds, and watches. Payments were collected during the meetings, often in dollars or bitcoins. When investors failed to make profits, they were pressured to buy more products and even offered fake loans to continue investing. Those arrested include Vidhan Dagar (27), Kaushik Dagar (31), Tapas Dhara (28), and Ganesh Bera (23), natives of West Bengal; Satish Shaw (29) of Jharkhand; Kalpesh Raju Bhai (23) of Gujarat; Gurvinder Singh (29) of Ludhiana; Gurdeep Singh (39) of Punjab. All of them were residents of the Bisrakh area, Greater Noida. According to Greater Noida's additional DCP Sudhir Kumar, a man named Pravin Kumar Pal registered a complaint stating that he and his cousin had been duped out of a large sum of money by an online business. Acting on the complaint, Ecotech-1 police traced and arrested the accused. Ecotech-1 police station in-charge Arvind Verma said the accused worked for a Dubai-based online company, commonly known as QNET/VIHAAN, which lured people in "get-rich-quick" schemes. The company was already under investigation in Delhi, Rajasthan, and Meghalaya. Explaining the gang's modus operandi, Verma stated that the gang held webinars on Google Meet and made the targets pay Rs 1.5 lakh to join the company. The targets were sold products such as gold, diamonds, and watches, and were told to resell them for bigger profits. In most cases, the victims did not receive the products. Those who did found them to be of substandard quality. "The accused now face charges under sections 318(4) (cheating), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS at the Ecotech-1 Police Station," Verma said.

Ghaziabad: Robbers posed as food delivery execs before fleeing with gold, silver
The Ghaziabad police have registered an FIR for robbery against unidentified suspects in the case where two armed robbers allegedly barged into a jewellery shop in Brij Vihar locality on Thursday afternoon and escaped with 20kg of silver, 125 grams of gold, and ₹20,000 in cash, police said on Friday. Six teams have been deployed to trace the robbers who fled the scene, police added. (HT Photo) The incident happened in a span of six minutes at 3.30pm on Thursday when the owner, Krishna Kumar Verma, stepped out of his shop. Two armed robbers wearing helmets, with their faces covered and each wearing a jacket of a different online food delivery company, entered the shop and overpowered Verma's staff, Shubham Kumar, said police. 'We have roped in six teams to investigate the case and to trace two robbers involved in the incident. We are scanning multiple CCTVs in Ghaziabad and Delhi to trace their escape route. It is suspected that they came from Delhi. The number plate of their bike had a fake registration number,' said Shweta Yadav, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of Sahibabad circle. 'The entire robbery happened in six minutes and it was captured live on CCTVs installed inside the shop. Before leaving the shop, I asked my staff to lock the glass door from inside. Robbers arrived after I left. The two robbers, disguised in the attire of online food delivery persons, knocked at the door and told my staff that they had come to deliver an online order. Initially he refused to open it, but on their insistence he opened the gate,' Verma said. 'They cornered my staff and also slapped him several times when he tried to move. They took out cash and jewelleries and fled on a bike parked outside. The total loss is estimated to be of is estimated to be around ₹30-35 lakh, and I have mentioned the details in the complaint given to the police,' said Verma. Police said that the two robbers were armed and threatened to shoot Verma's staff if he resisted. Police said they checked CCTVs in the neighbourhood which corroborated Verma's version of events regarding the fact that he stepped out of his shop. Based on the complaint, the police registered an FIR under BNS Section 309(4) (robbery) at Link Road police station late Thursday night. Police said that a case was registered against Verma in 2022 in which he was sent to jail for allegedly purchasing some stolen items. However, that case is not related to the current robbery, police said.
