Will complete all pending irrigation projects in Rayalaseema, says Naidu

The Hindu2 days ago
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said his government will complete the irrigation projects in Rayalaseema and that he has chalked out a blueprint for the development of the region.
Mr. Naidu on Tuesday offered Jala Harathi to the Krishna river at the Srisailam project and lifted four gates of the project in the presence of Ministers Nimmala Ramanaidu, B.C. Janardhan Reddy, and N.M.D. Farooq, Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari, and Collector Rajakumari Gania.
Earlier, he offered prayers at the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple, Srisailam.
Later, addressing the water users association at Sundipenta, Mr. Naidu said he was elated over the Srisailam project reaching its full capacity in July itself. 'I offered prayers at the Srisailam temple and prayed to the presiding deities of Lord Mallikarjuna and Goddess Bhramaramba for the prosperity of the State and also to develop Rayalaseema as `Ratanala Seema.' We are going ahead with a resolve to develop the region as a Ratanala Seema,' he said.
Mr. Naidu said the NDA government during 2014-19 had prioritised irrigation sector and spent ₹68,000 crore on construction of projects. 'The previous government, however, spent just ₹2,000 crore on the sector. After coming back to power, we have prioritised irrigation sector again and spent ₹3,390 crore on Handri-Neeva alone. We will also provide water to Jeedipalli reservoir on July 15,' he said.
Asserting that the Polavaram project will be completed by 2027, the Chief Minister said the Rayalaseema region is getting water because of the Polavaram right canal only. 'I have a blueprint for the development of Rayalaseema. We will complete the irrigation projects in the region and make it a horticulture hub. The region is conducive to cultivating millets and also fruits. We are encouraging drip irrigation in the region by giving 90% subsidy,' Mr Naidu said.
Industrial parks
On the industrial front, Mr. Naidu said industrial parks are being set up at Kopparti and Orvakal and several industries are coming to Rayalaseema. 'Solar and wind energy plants are also coming n the region. Rayalaseema has good tourism spots. Ancient and historic temples like Tirupati, Srisailam, Vontimetta, Kanipakam, Ahobilam and others are our biggest assets,' he said.
Terming irrigation projects as modern temples, Mr. Naidu said projects like the Srisailam, Gollapalli, Bairavanitippa, and PABR keep the soil fertile and contribute to development.
Linking of rivers
Mr. Naidu stated that his government would prioritise completion of pending projects and will inter-link rivers. 'We will link Vamsadhara and Polavaram and also Polavaram and Banakacherla which will ensure that there is no drought even if the Krishna basin does not receive good rains. We will complete all the pending projects under Telugu Ganga, K-C Canal, SRSP, Nagari-Galeru and Handri-Neeva. The State has the potential to store 1,004 tmc water but the present projects in the State have capacity to store only 554 tmc,' he said.

Jagan blames govt for mango farmers' plight

Tirupati: YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the NDA government in the state for allegedly driving the farmers into severe distress. He visited the Bangarupalem market yard in the Puthalapattu constituency of Chittoor district on Wednesday to express solidarity with mango farmers, who, he said, were in a helpless situation as their produce was not fetching even the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Despite heavy police restrictions, thousands of YSRCP supporters and farmers gathered at the market yard, creating a tense atmosphere throughout the day. Interacting with the farmers, Jagan questioned the government's inaction over the mounting crisis. 'If farmers are not in distress, why have thousands gathered here to voice their concerns?' he said during a media interaction. He alleged that the government had turned a blind eye to the ongoing agrarian crisis and pointed out that not a single crop was being procured at MSP under the current regime. 'This visit is meant to wake up a sleeping government. Agriculture has been neglected under the NDA, and farmers are bearing the brunt,' he said. Drawing comparisons with his party's previous tenure, Jagan recalled that mangoes were purchased at Rs 22 to 29 per kg under the YSRCP government. Even the Centre, he said, was procuring mangoes from Karnataka at Rs 16 per kg. In contrast, the state government was offering just Rs 2 per kg to local farmers. 'This is outrageous. Farmers are in tears. They're not even getting Rs 12 per kg now. The government and mango factories are colluding to exploit them,' he alleged. Jagan further questioned Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, asking how many factories were actually paying Rs 8 per kg, as claimed by the government, and how many farmers had received the promised Rs 4 per kg subsidy. He also criticised the breakdown of agricultural support infrastructure, saying input subsidies and investment assistance were not reaching farmers, while key institutions like Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs) and agri-labs had become defunct. 'Every support system created for farmers has collapsed,' he said. Demanding immediate procurement of the mango crop, Jagan urged the state to step in and provide urgent relief. 'YSRCP will stand by every farmer and fight for their rights,' he assured. Referring to the security clampdown during his visit, Jagan alleged that the state deployed nearly 2,000 police personnel to block farmers from meeting him. 'Farmers were treated like rowdy-sheeters. Around 1,200 were detained. Some were even subjected to lathi-charge,' he said, strongly condemning what he called the breakdown of law and order and the suppression of rural voices. He warned that the present situation stood in stark contrast to the farmer-friendly governance under the previous YSRCP regime and vowed that his party would intensify its agitation if the government failed to act.

Internal survey reveals resentment over roll revision, BJP says concerned

NEW DELHI: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Bihar electoral rolls, aimed at removing fake voters, appears to be placing the BJP, which holds more sway than its NDA allies in the state, on the back foot. The party's internal pre-poll survey teams are reportedly encountering public resentment due to concerns that their names may be removed from the rolls under SIR. 'SIR has started putting us on the wrong wicket. Whenever we call the voters over their phones to know what they expect from the BJP and how they would help the BJP realise their dreams, the majority of the people express their resentment against the SIR and the BJP,' said a member of the party's telephone-based survey team. The SIR has triggered widespread protests, including a large-scale Opposition-called bandh in Bihar on Wednesday, just ahead of the assembly elections.

Govt. striving to bring State back on tracks after suffering five years of damage, says Minister

While former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy mocked the concept of Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme during the previous TDP rule of 2014-19, today the same project has benefitted 13 lakh acres in Krishna Delta, said Minister for Water Resources Nimmala Rama Naidu on Wednesday (July 9). Offering 'Jala Harathi' at the Pavitra Sangam in Ibrahimpatnam in NTR district, where the Godavari water arrives through the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, the Minister said the NDA government was trying to bring the State back on tracks after the previous government pushed it into the 'ICU'. The previous government put a stop to 450 of the 1,040 lift irrigation schemes running till 2019, and due to this, water did not reach 4 lakh acres, the Minister said, adding that the present government is working towards reviving all those schemes. Recalling that the scheme was launched in 2015 to divert 3,000 tmcft. of Godavari water that flowed into the sea every year, the Minister said by diverting the surplus Godavari water for the Krishna Delta, the Krishna water thus saved in the Srisailam Reservoir is being utilised for Rayalaseema. He added that during the previous TDP regime in 2014-19, 263 tmcft. of Godavari water was diverted to the Krishna river through the lift irrigation scheme. Till date, the number stands at 428 tmcft., he said. Terming Pattiseema a boon to the Krishna Delta, he said the scheme fetched an income of ₹50,000 crore between 2014 and 2019 for the government. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wishes to store every drop of floodwater so that the saved water can be used when there is a scanty rains, the Minister said. Thanks to this water management, 20 tmcft. is still available in the Pulichintala project. By storing 45 tmcft. of flood water that flowed into the Krishna river last year, the government used it for drinking and irrigation this summer, the Minister added. Accusing the YSRCP government of neglecting lift irrigation schemes, the Minister said they did not spend a penny on any repairs. But the NDA government has spent ₹700 crore for these repairs in its first year itself, despite financial constraints, the Minister said. While concluding, he said Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are trying to bring the State back on the tracks, and that every department is striving to provide better governance to the people. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, Jaggayyapeta MLA Rajagopal Sreeram (Tatayya) and district officials accompanied the Minister to the Pavitra Sangam.
