Electrified Volvos Don't Stop As They Should
Safety issues stemming from recalls are not uncommon, and even the company that invented the seatbelt occasionally has to improve on things that it didn't get right, like the common rearview camera issue plaguing many. Thanks to over-the-air software updates, many of these issues can often be resolved without a trip to the dealership. But there's only so much one can do when the owners themselves don't take advantage, and that's why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is issuing an urgent warning to Volvo owners after the majority of them impacted by a recall last month have still not availed themselves of the fix.
If you have a hybrid or all-electric Volvo and haven't already done so, please stop driving until you've downloaded the update.
Complete Loss Of Braking Could Occur
The NHTSA says that Volvo issued recall 25V-392 on June 12, with the goal of addressing a regenerative braking issue that, left unchecked, could cause an affected vehicle to "completely lose its ability to brake while going downhill." Volvo advised owners to turn off regenerative braking and avoid driving their cars until the recall was downloaded, but of the 11,469 vehicles impacted by this recall, approximately 1,000 still hadn't performed the update by July 15. The affected vehicles, including some of the latest 2026 models, are listed below:
2023 C40 BEV
2025 EC40 BEV
2025-2026 EX40 PHEV
2023-2025 S60 PHEV
2025 S90 PHEV
2024-2025 V60 PHEV
2023-2024 XC40 BEV
2022-2026 XC60 PHEV
2020-2026 XC90 PHEV
One Incident Captured On Video Reveals The Danger
To highlight just how important this recall is, the NHTSA has uploaded a dashcam clip of an owner experiencing the issue, which nearly resulted in a severe crash. Fortunately, nobody was injured, but had this happened after dark or in another place, or with cyclists or pedestrians nearby, things could have been a lot worse, especially given the weight of cars with charging ports.
Unfortunately for Volvo, alongside the rearview camera issue mentioned at the outset, owner reports of glitches in other areas have some buyers reconsidering. Worse still, the automaker has been forced to drastically cut its U.S. lineup because of the impact of tariffs.

Stellantis warns of $2.7 billion loss for 1st half of 2025 due to tariffs and some big charges

Stellantis, the maker of Jeep and Ram vehicles, says its preliminary estimates show a 2.3 billion euros ($2.68 billion) net loss in the first half of the year due to U.S. tariffs and some hefty charges. The automaker anticipates an impact of about 300 million euros for net tariffs incurred, and also expects planned production losses related to implementing its response plan. Stellantis also expects approximately 3.3 billion euros ($3.84 billion) of pre-tax net charges mostly related to program cancellation costs and platform impairments, restructuring and the net impact of recent legislation eliminating the CAFE penalty rate. Automakers have been penalized if the average fuel economy of a their annual fleet of vehicle production exceeds a certain level. Two months ago Stellantis named Antonio Filosa as its new chief executive officer. He replaced Carlos Tavares, who resigned under pressure last year. Stellantis, which was created from the 2021 merger of France's PSA Peugeot with Italian-U.S. carmaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, is the world's fourth-largest car manufacturer. It is based in the Netherlands. The automaker provided preliminary financial figures on Monday in the absence of financial guidance, which it suspended in April. Ford recalls more than 694K Bronco Sport, Escape vehicles due to fuel injector issue

Ford is recalling more than 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles because the fuel injector may crack and leak, which may cause a fire. If fuel leaks inside the engine compartment and there's a hot engine or exhaust components, it could increase the risk of a fire. The recall impacts certain 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Escape vehicles equipped with 1.5L engines. Ford has been looking into the fuel injector issue since 2022, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The company's field review committee approved recalls in November 2022, March 2024 and March 2025, during which it performed software updates. Ford has continued to investigate the issue. As part of the ongoing process, the automaker looked at corrosion as a contributing factor to fuel injector cracks between April and May 2025. Ford identified injector cracking on eight vehicles that experienced underhood fires. Six of the vehicles didn't have updated engine control software. The automaker isn't aware of any injuries related to the fires. Earlier this month Ford's field review committee decided to issue a recall for certain vehicles to update their engine control software for free until a final remedy is available. A letter notifying vehicle owners of the safety risk is expected to be mailed on Aug. 18. A second letter will be sent once the final remedy is available. Vehicle owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 25S76.

Now a key part of the Honda EV Hub, AEP is one of three production facilities in Ohio that are advancing the concept of flexible manufacturing, using domestic and globally made parts to produce internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrid powertrains and all-electric motors on the same production lines. AEP has built more than 32.5 million engines, including for automobiles and powersports products, as well as a variety of powertrain components for engines and transmissions since it began production of motorcycle engines on July 22, 1985. Production of auto engines began in 1986 with a 4-cylinder powerplant for the Honda Civic. AEP currently produces a range of V6 and inline 4-cylinder engines, including 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0-liter turbo engines. The production history of AEP also includes a great variety of engines for performance vehicles and highly fuel-efficient hybrid-electric models.
