The 11th-seed, de Minaur earned six set points before finally closing out the opening set 6-2 in 46 minutes.

He hit 13 winners to his opponent's seven, but Baena didn't go down without a fight.
De Minaur claimed the second set 6-2 before wrapping it up 7-6 (7-2) in the third.
Fellow Aussie Aleksander Vukic won the first two sets in his clash with Chun-Hsin Tseng, 6-3 6-4, but has been forced to fight.
James McCabe was sent packing by Fabian Marozsan, who won 6-1 6-4 6-3.

The women's draw has opened up after American Jessica Pegula suffered a shock Wimbledon exit, the third seed beaten by Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto in straight sets.
Pegula was thrashed 6-2, 6-3 by the world No.116 in just 58 minutes.

It was a bitter blow for 2024 US Open finalist Pegula, who has never been past the quarter-finals at the All England Club
The 31-year-old played with heavy strapping on her right knee and never looked comfortable in a lacklustre performance.
Since losing last year's US Open final against Aryna Sabalenka, world number three Pegula has been eliminated before the quarter-finals in all three of her Grand Slam appearances.
It was only Cocciaretto's second win against a top-10 player.
Daria Kasatkina takes on Emiliana Arango in the first round.
Daria Kasatkina and Prscilla Hon were flying the Australian flag in the women's draw to start day two.
Kasatkina was forced to work in her opening round match with Emiliana Arango, before eventually winning 7-5 6-3.
Hon was bundled out by Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets, 6-2 7-5.

AFL Players' Association says 'fines aren't proportionate to the acts' amid latest umpire contact crackdown
The AFL has been slammed for dramatically increasing penalties for contact with umpires, placing a number of players at risk of suspension. The AFL Players' Association has called the move "disappointing", saying it wasn't consulted before the sudden change ahead of the upcoming round. Starting on Thursday night, a player charged with careless umpire contact for a fourth time or more during the past two seasons can be referred directly to the tribunal and face possible suspension. Fines have skyrocketed recently, with the total amount to exceed a record $1 million over the past 24 months by the end of this season. While agreeing umpires needed to be protected, interim AFLPA boss Ben Smith said the match review officer and tribunal system was "not working and needs to be reviewed and revised". "The safety of umpires is a critical component for the game, and it's one the players wholeheartedly agree with," Smith said. "However, unilaterally deciding to increase the penalties on the playing group to greater extremes without consultation is disappointing. "The AFLPA wrote to the AFL weeks ago to request a forum where the players can sit down and genuinely discuss these issues holistically with the AFL. "There are multiple factors that go into the number of fines increasing for careless contact with an umpire, such as additional umpires on the field and greater congestion around the ball, and the players feel the threshold of what constitutes incidental or accidental contact between players and umpires continues to shift. "They ultimately believe these fines aren't proportionate to the acts committed." Newly re-signed Gold Coast star Matt Rowell has already been fined three times this season for umpire contact. A fourth offence would likely send Rowell to an unprecedented tribunal appearance. There have been 63 careless contact fines this season, with 56 last year and only 20 in 2023. A change mid-season could impact the Brownlow Medal, with Rowell expected to poll well. Essendon coach Brad Scott warned the AFL was already asking a lot of the playing group. "I just hope there's a deep dive being done into umpire positioning for umpires on the ground," he said on Wednesday. "Player fines are getting out of control at the moment. "I understand the reasoning for it. The AFL has had their hand forced on this one … everyone's got to take some responsibility for this, not just the players." Bombers players took part in drills at training on Wednesday to ensure they aren't making unnecessary contact with umpires. "The ball-ups are the problem," Scott said. "The incidental umpire contact around the ground doesn't happen very often." AAP

Josh Giddey has addressed his future in the NBA, as speculation grows he is about to sign a new multimillion-dollar mega deal with the Chicago Bulls. Speaking to Stellar prior to a reported offer, the 22-year-old indicated he wanted to stay with the Bulls after a breakout season. 'I'd love to stay in Chicago. I would love for it to work out that way,' Giddey told Stellar. 'But, it's a business and I understand how the NBA works. It will happen hopefully soon. 'It's hard to say because a lot of it is not on me – a lot of it is between my agent and the Bulls front office.' The Australian guard was reported to have been offered a 'qualifying' $A45.4 million per year ($US30 million) multi-year deal by the team late last week, as he enters restricted free agency, sources told ESPN. As he threw an NFL football around a backyard in Beverly Hills, Melbourne-born Giddey mused to about the reality of being a restricted free agent. 'If you're 'unrestricted', you can pick where you want to go. 'Restricted' kind of ties you to that team unless they don't match an offer that another team gives you,' Giddey explained to Stellar. It came as Giddey reflected on his career with the Chicago Bulls – after being traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder last year – and the real price of fame. 'I would love to be unknown sometimes,' Giddey told Stellar. 'I am not complaining; there are definitely good things to come with it. 'But everything you do is magnified and you always have a spotlight on you following you around. 'I guess it comes with being an NBA player – there are definitely times where I'd like to be a regular guy and blend in. 'There are days where I'd love to be able to walk around with my friends and nobody know who I was – and do normal things that I used to do when I was just a kid.' During Stellar's interview, Giddey was in off-season mode, 'sitting in the backyard, with my trainer, laying in the sun, throwing the football around'. He continued: 'As soon as you go out into the public eye, things become a little different'. 'It becomes a little harder to do normal things. I'm not going to sit here and complain. 'But at times, you just wish nobody knew who you were and you could operate a normal life, like everybody else.' Part of embracing that 'real life' outside of his huge NBA fame is Giddey's close friendship with childhood BFF and fellow Melbourne-born NBA star, Dyson Daniels. The pair are set to unveil their joint venture, CourtSide – a state-of-the-art basketball facility in Melbourne designed for children playing at a grassroots level to professional athletes. Daniels and Giddey – who are both 22 – have been friends for more than a decade; they met while playing junior basketball. In their recent joint shoot with Stellar, the pair shared playful banter on set, with Giddey called Daniels his 'little brother'. Of their friendship, Daniels – who was named the NBA's Most Improved Player last season for his elite defence – said: 'We kind of went through every phase of life together. We've grown up together.'

'The weather shouldn't affect his chances because he goes well on both dry and rain-affected tracks so he's pretty versatile in that manner. 'It's important there's a genuine tempo for him to sit off because that's when he races at his best.'
