Kamil Munim dismisses Muhyiddin's claim on judiciary interference

The Sun3 days ago
KUALA LUMPUR: The recent claim by Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is undermining judicial independence has been dismissed as baseless by Angkatan Muda Keadilan (PKR Youth) chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim.
Muhammad Kamil, who also serves as Political Secretary to the Finance Minister, stated that allegations of compromised judicial independence must be substantiated with concrete evidence rather than unfounded accusations.
He emphasized that the ability of high-ranking officials, including the Prime Minister, to face legal proceedings demonstrates the judiciary's autonomy.
'The fact that legal actions can proceed against anyone, regardless of position, proves the rule of law is upheld. An independent judiciary ensures due process without executive interference,' he said in a statement.
Responding to Anwar's application to refer constitutional questions to the Federal Court regarding a civil suit, Muhammad Kamil stressed that seeking legal clarification is a fundamental right.
He criticized Muhyiddin's remarks as lacking depth and misrepresenting Malaysia's legal framework.
'A seasoned politician should understand better. There is zero evidence of executive meddling in judicial affairs. Such claims are politically motivated attempts to erode public trust,' he added.
Muhammad Kamil also highlighted that differing opinions within the MADANI government reflect democratic strength, contrasting it with Muhyiddin's past decision to suspend Parliament.
He dismissed attempts to correlate policy decisions like SST expansion with institutional control as misleading.
'Government policies stem from economic necessity, not interference in institutions,' he clarified.
Muhyiddin had earlier alleged that judicial independence is compromised while the Prime Minister faces personal legal matters. – Bernama

PM must clarify allegations regarding JAC meeting leak, says PAS info chief

SHAH ALAM: Perikatan Nasional is calling on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to clarify allegations regarding the recent leak of Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) meeting minutes. PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari ( pic ) stated that if these allegations are proven true and cannot be refuted, they could impact the integrity of the judicial institution and the Prime Minister's position. "The Prime Minister is urged to promptly provide an open explanation to the public," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (July 13). Earlier, a document purported to be an excerpt of JAC meeting minutes dated May went viral on social media, raising questions about the transparency and independence of the judicial institution. Ahmad Fadhli also emphasised that anyone involved in undermining the judiciary should be judged without prejudice. "A warning was also issued to all members of the judiciary, particularly senior judges, not to collude with any attempts to damage the justice system. Justice, when upheld, will not recognise rank or status," he asserted. Meanwhile, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Information Chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz stated in a Facebook post that the allegations have further eroded public trust in the Prime Minister. Tun Faisal added that an independent and transparent investigation should be conducted into the alleged leak of the JAC meeting minutes.

Perikatan willing to work with any parties in Sabah except GRS

PN Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said PN is open to cooperating with any party for the upcoming Sabah state election, except GRS, which he accused of betraying PN by leaving the coalition to form its own government. 'As I have said, it is very difficult to work with GRS because they have denied us. Would you want to work with them if you were in my position? 'The name GRS was actually given by me when they first started. At that time, not only BERSATU was in the coalition, but other parties too. I named it GRS just as a name; it was not registered,' he said. Muhyiddin claimed GRS later registered itself as a political party without PN's consent, resulting in PN losing many seats. 'This is a betrayal because many seats we won were lost just like that,' he said. Despite these losses, Muhyiddin remains confident that PN still has strong support in Sabah due to its past governance during COVID-19 and promised a thorough candidate selection process for the state election. 'We will study and scrutinise each contested State Assembly (DUN) seat more closely. After the assembly is dissolved, we will conduct a thorough review, and if there are parties willing to cooperate, we will consider it. 'One fact is that people saw our sincerity in managing the country during COVID-19, the assistance we provided, and our efforts in saving many lives. They still remember my service and call me 'Abah',' he said. —July 13, 2025 Main image: Borneo Post Online

Govt ready to act on unjustified price hikes after SST revision, says deputy domestic trade minister

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Authorities will step up efforts to monitor the prices of basic necessities, including food at eateries, following the Sales and Service Tax (SST) revision, Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Fuziah Salleh said. According to The Star, Fuziah said the ministry is ready to take action against food operators who increase prices unnecessarily due to the SST adjustments. 'We have already launched Ops Kesan 4.0,' she said. 'This is to protect consumers by detecting price movements and any attempts to exploit the SST adjustments. We will continue to monitor them,' she said. She added that the ministry is prepared to receive complaints from the public. 'We hope all parties can play their roles and we will look into all the complaints,' she said. The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has begun nationwide enforcement operations under Ops Kesan 4.0 to curb unjustified price increases and profiteering linked to the SST revision, which came into effect on July 1. Minister Datuk Armizan Ali said on July 8 that the enforcement will be guided by four key elements, starting with the scrutiny of goods and services listed under the revised SST scope. He said the second element involves ensuring registered businesses exceeding the SST threshold register with the Customs Department. Other factors include examining pricing margins to determine whether they reflect profiteering in violation of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011. 'Businesses are advised to consider all four aspects before making any price or service fee adjustments,' Armizan said. He also urged businesses to consult the Customs Department and the Finance Ministry for policy and compliance clarification while seeking guidance from the ministry's Enforcement Division for matters involving profiteering indicators.
