Oman wins three medals at ITEX 2025
Innovator Badr bin Salim al Maqbali won the gold medal for his invention, Remote Control for the Operation of the Ring Bonding Unit. Innovator Malak bint Khalifa al Harthyah won the gold medal for her project, Portland Cement Composite Reinforced with Carbon Nanoplates as a Dental Filling.
Innovator Yusra bint Yousef al Ghadaniyah won the silver medal for her project, Squid Ink Water Filter. Innovator Badr bin Salim al Maqbali also received the Best Innovator Award from the Bunyan Foundation for Social Services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2025) is one of the most prominent initiatives aimed at developing the capabilities of young innovators, enabling them to benefit from international forums to develop their ideas and exchange experiences with their peers from around the world.
The exhibition represents a destination for inventors to showcase their innovative ideas to investors and businessmen in various fields, including agriculture, automation, manufacturing, biotechnology, construction, medicine, health, energy and other fields.
ITEX is an annual international exhibition that combines inventions, innovations and technology. It is also known as the Invention and Innovation Market and is a vital platform that brings together inventors, investors, businessmen and startups to showcase and market their latest innovations.
This year's exhibition saw participation from more than 20 countries in Asia and Europe, showcasing more than 1,000 inventions across various categories. It also included competitions and opportunities for funding and marketing. — ONA

Oman, Belarus discuss ties
MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday received an official delegation from the Republic of Belarus that comprised government officials, CEOs and business representatives of industrial companies. The delegation's visit to Oman was aimed at boosting economic relations and joint cooperation between the two countries, notably in the sectors of industry and information technology. Value of wheat output tops RO 3 million in 2024-2025 season
Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has affirmed that wheat production has seen significant growth across various governorates of Oman following the implementation of a local wheat support plan starting in 2023. This initiative falls within national efforts to enhance food security and achieve self-sufficiency in staple grains. The ministry clarified that the total production for the 2024-2025 season reached 10,128.341 tonnes, with a market value of RO 3,038,502, cultivated across 8,327 acres. Dhofar Governorate contributed 76 per cent of Oman's total wheat production this year, yielding 7,723 tonnes, followed by Al Dhahirah Governorate with 1,118 tonnes and Al Dakhiliyah with 877.185 tonnes, while the remaining quantities were distributed among other governorates. Dr Khair bin Tuwair al Busaidy, Director of the Palm and Plant Production Department at the MoAFWR, stated that the local wheat support plan aims to strengthen food security systems in line with the objectives of 'Oman Vision 2040". This, he pointed out, is achieved by enabling farmers to cultivate high-yield, high-quality improved wheat varieties, providing assistance in harvesting operations, and offering technical and advisory support. He added that the ministry, in coordination with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, is expanding wheat cultivation by allocating new agricultural lands for wheat farming and offering them as usufruct lands for farmers and investors. Dr Al Busaidy affirmed that the ministry, through its research centres, continues to develop wheat farming, improve local varieties, and introduce new strains adapted to Oman's climate while maintaining high productivity and quality. He explained to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the constructive cooperation and partnership between the MoAFWR and Oman Flour Mills Company has effectively contributed to the sustainability of wheat cultivation. This collaboration has encouraged farmers to continue wheat production and benefit from the support plan. The company annually purchases Omani wheat from farmers as part of its plans to develop local wheat and introduce it to domestic and regional markets as an Omani product. — ONA

Saham Fruit Festival features diverse activities
SAHAM: Saham Fruit Festival kicked off in the Wilayat of Saham, Al Batinah North Governorate on Tuesday. The event is organised by the Office of the Wali of Saham in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the wilayat. The festival aims to support local producers by providing a direct marketing platform to sell their agricultural products, promote sustainable farming practices and raise community awareness about their economic and environmental importance. It also showcases the fruits and agricultural crops cultivated in the farms of the wilayat. Held at Saham Public Park, the festival features a variety of activities, including stalls for displaying and selling local fruits, specialised workshops on modern agricultural techniques and educational seminars focusing on best farming practices.
