Lost Cat is an airy new 55-seat restaurant in Warrnambool, three hours from Melbourne. Chef and co-owner Zac Nicholson (ex- Rockpool) is making his ranch with quark from nearby Schulz Dairy and serving it with crunchy crudites from a local farm.
Dark-gold focaccia that ferments for 48 hours is baked just before the restaurant opens, and served with a butter featuring caramelised onion, garlic powder, onion powder and fried shallots for an all-out allium assault. A dry-aged scotch fillet is served with a kombu-rich umami butter.
Wood-grilled cabbage with cashew cream, and baked custard with seasonal fruit celebrate produce from local grower Merri Banks. Drinks cover western Victorian wines, gins and beer from locals Noodledoof, and crowd-pleasing cocktails such as whisky sours. And the White Russian? It's made with Schulz milk, of course.

Scott Cam has implemented a strict new rule change for this year's season of The Block – and it might make for a slightly less comfortable experience for contestants. Usually, contestants would 'rough it' for the first few days of a season, living out of the tent as they built the first room of the house, typically a bedroom. It meant that from the end of week one, they could pack up the tent and have a roof over their heads – and have the rest of the house to live in and use as it was built, week by week. Scott Cam delivers the news. But Cam told contestants this year that he was implementing a strict new rule: 'No overnighters.' The five teams would not be able to spend the night inside their houses at all during the season. Instead, they've been given luxury caravans to call home for the entire season. During Sunday's premiere, all seemed in good spirits at the news they'd be sleeping in them for the next three months, during the testing conditions of a rural Victorian winter (with all that caravan living entails – including emptying of toilet waste). The caravans are lush – but it's a bit of a downgrade from previous seasons, living in the giant house you're renovating. This year's contestants are a diverse bunch, among them two married Northern Territory police officers, a lesbian couple (who, in a slightly awkward first meeting, are initially mistaken for twins by their fellow contestants) a gay and straight best mate, and a champion pole dancer. There is another big change expected this season: The Block's mega-buyer, billionaire Adrian Portelli, should be nowhere to be seen come auction day. In an extravagant move, Portelli bought all five Block houses at last season's auctions – but later struggled to offload them. He insisted the mega-buyout was to be his Block swan song and, as Cam confessed in a recent interview, the feeling was mutual. 'To be honest we said to Adrian 'We'd love you not to come next year, if that's all right,'' Cam revealed on Nova 96.9's Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie last week. We don't know, but we do want to give mums and dads the opportunity to have a crack at a block house … but if Adrian comes and wants to buy the lot of them, well, that rules them out.' Cam said he hoped to see 'families have a bit of a crack this year,' after recent years have seen the show's finales turn into bidding wars between Portelli and fellow mega-rich investor Danny Wallis. But it seems Portelli's not taking the soft-ban lying down: He's switched allegiances to The Block's competitor show on Seven, My Reno Rules. Portelli's rewards club company LMCT+ will be the major sponsor of the show's new season, and he's even donated two homes that will be flipped by contestants during the show. Melbourne entrepreneur, author and influencer Sophie Cachia has listed her fully renovated Tullamarine home as she prepares to buy with AFLW star Madison Prespakis. Cachia, who has a combined social media following of more than 300,000 across Instagram and TikTok, is known for her bold personal style, parenting content and outspoken takes on relationships and identity. Her partner, Madison Prespakis, is a midfielder for Essendon in the AFLW and a former Carlton star who won the league's Best and Fairest in 2020 aged 19. 'Whether it's near family or by the beach, as long as we're together, that's all that really matters.' Her four-bedroom home, which features a monochrome palette, premium appliances and a designer double ensuite, was purchased in 2021 and completely overhauled under Cachia's direction and has $900,000-$990,000 price hopes. Perth-based interior stylist and director of 13 Interiors Kelly Donougher, helped Ms Cachia design the home with a black-and-white aesthetic. 'I wasn't even really looking to buy, I just went to the open home, saw the potential, and completely fell in love with it,' Ms Cachia said. 'I literally rang Kelly while I was standing inside and said, 'If I buy this, will you help me style it? 'We were so aligned from the get-go. 'That strong monochrome look, I've always loved it. I knew exactly what I wanted this home to feel like.' The centrepiece of the renovation is the oversized ensuite in the main bedroom, complete with double vanities, a double shower, and a custom step built with young children in mind. 'I'm someone who doesn't really use the bedroom for anything other than sleep, so I wanted the ensuite to be the wow factor,' Ms Cachia said. 'That whole front section of the house became a sanctuary. I'll miss it so much.' Other highlights include two living areas, a walk-in dressing room, integrated appliances, secure gated entry and a low-maintenance backyard with a private pool. Matthews Real Estate director John Matthews said the home was one of the suburb's most stylish offerings, with interest already building among buyers who will recognise the value of a finished renovation. 'You walk in and it just hits you — it's chic,' Mr Matthews said. 'It's not the kind of renovation you see in Tullamarine every day. Replicating this would cost well above the current guide.' Speculation is mounting West Coast young gun Harley Reid has split from his AFLW star girlfriend Yasmin Duursma. Reid and Duursma — who plays for Carlton — have been together since January last year. It comes with the Eagles star at the centre of hot contract speculation, with reports emerging this week his management has put forward a deal that could keep him in Western Australia long-term. The rising star has removed Duursma's initials from his Instagram bio, while Duursma has removed pictures of the pair from her own feed. PerthNow contacted Reid for a comment. Reid also remains a target of powerful clubs from his home state Victoria, lead by Geelong — who he supported as a youngster — and Hawthorn.
