A 3-14 season was a wake-up call. The Tennessee Titans not only fell to the bottom of the NFL, they slid deep into obscurity. Tennessee was truly awful but other than regular Will Levis memes and first-year head coach Brian Callahan's outward hostility toward Levis, nobody cared. They had no identity, no marketable star, a decayed roster and only one hope for the future.
That hope was the first pick of the draft. The Titans could have traded that pick or taken Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter, but they knew the best path back to relevance was hitting on a pick at quarterback. That's why Cam Ward, who set an NCAA record with 158 touchdown passes at Incarnate Word, Washington State and then Miami, is a Titan.
There's a long way to go and Ward won't fix all of that. There were a few bright spots on the roster — Jeffery Simmons is a star on the defensive line, 2024 rookies DT T'Vondre Sweat and CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. had promising debuts, Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley had 1,000-yard seasons in a bad situation — but rebuilding will take a while. If Ward hits, at least that's a start.

The plan for the Saints always seemed to be that when Drew Brees retired, there would be a total teardown. That really didn't happen. It still hasn't happened four years after Brees' last game. The Saints weren't recklessly aggressive as usual this offseason, but didn't blow things up and didn't make moves that would indicate they have the self awareness to know they should be in a rebuild. They still have a terrible 2026 cap situation and one of the oldest rosters in the NFL. Even a brutal 15-game stretch to end the season didn't force them into facing reality.
Maybe it needs to get even worse for the Saints to realize they're at rock bottom. And it might. Kellen Moore is a rookie head coach and he does not step into a good situation. Derek Carr retired and while he wasn't great for New Orleans, the remaining quarterback solution is probably second-round pick Tyler Shough, a curious pick for a fading team considering he'll turn 26 years old in September. The surrounding cast has some recognizable names who have had good careers but is short on stars who are still in their prime. The Saints' only blue-chip player under 28 years old might be receiver Chris Olave, but he hasn't played a full season in the NFL due to four confirmed concussions.
New Orleans has reached a point in which a horrific season is the best outcome. It would be a wake-up call and perhaps lead to a franchise-changing quarterback. Like the first two games last season, the Saints' idea that they can turn things around doing things the same old way seems to be nothing but a mirage.

The Cleveland Browns were the last to know that Deshaun Watson was one of the NFL's worst quarterbacks. It had to be cathartic for Browns fans to hear owner Jimmy Haslam say the team "took a big swing and miss with Deshaun." Everyone else knew that long ago. The Browns were in deep denial.
A key decision at the top of the draft was the unofficial start of reshaping the roster. The Browns passed on the chance to draft Travis Hunter second overall to get a huge haul from the Jacksonville Jaguars in a trade. It included the fifth overall pick and the Jags' first-round pick next year. It had to be hard to give up Hunter, but it was probably the right move.
The big part of the rebuild will be figuring out quarterback, and the Browns are taking a shotgun approach to it this year. They have four relatively low-cost quarterbacks and are praying one is the answer. Joe Flacco is the 40-year-old stopgap, Kenny Pickett is the reclamation project, Dillon Gabriel was the rookie the Browns drafted proactively in the third round, and Shedeur Sanders is the fifth-round pick everyone wants to talk about. If Sanders climbs up from fourth on the depth chart and starts any games this season, the Browns suddenly will become one of the most watched teams in the league.
The process starts over. Hopefully for Cleveland it's not as long and difficult as the last one, and with some positive results this time.

David Bakhtiari pokes fun at Aaron Rodgers's mystery wedding

David Bakhtiari could be heading to "The Island." Then again, maybe he's already there. On Monday, the former Packers tackle tweeted a video from the recent wedding of current Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Bakhtiari added this: "Just happy at least one of my quarterbacks invited me to their wedding." Advertisement Love and Bakhtiari had limited time together. Bakhtiari started only one game in 2023, Love's first year as a starter and the left tackle's last year in Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers and Bakhtiari had many years together with the Packers. Making the Bakhtiari remark even more interesting is the general haze of uncertainty surrounding the Rodgers wedding. Up to and including whether a wedding even happened. We know, we know. Rodgers doesn't want anyone to talk about his wedding. When you're one of the most famous players in the NFL, however, you don't get to dictate the terms of the attention you receive. Especially when you show up out of nowhere with a wedding ring. Before showing up without it. Before showing up with it prominently in the photo of you signing a contract with your new team. With Rodgers cloaking so much of his life in mystery, it's impossible to know when, where, or who he married. Or if he even is married. Advertisement Maybe the ring is a Costanza-style sociological experiment aimed at seeing whether women will hit on guys who wear wedding bands. Regardless, Bakhtiari went there. We don't know much, but we know Rodgers won't be happy about it.

Lions legend Ndamukong Suh launches an interesting new podcast

Former Detroit Lions star Ndamukong Suh was always known as a sharp guy off the field. Now retired for a few years, Suh is launching a new podcast that explores his football background and off-field financial prowess. Suh spent his first five NFL seasons with the Lions. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft earned All-Pro status in four of those years and was the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2010, bagging 10 sacks. While his physical play made him some enemies on opposing teams (notably Green Bay), his poised, shrewd off-field persona and friendship with Warren Buffett were always a very intriguing subplot in the story of Suh. He's now developed that into a podcast called "No Free Lunch" in conjunction with The Athletic. From the podcast liner notes, NFL legend and entrepreneur Ndamukong Suh sits down with the sharpest minds across the world of sports, investing, and entrepreneurship to discuss their personal success journeys and explore the latest business and finance ideas. No Free Lunch launches on July 1st with brand-new episodes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a good opportunity for fans to get more insight into the real off-field lives and interests of their NFL heroes, including Suh.

New York Giants select OL 'on the rise' in Matt Miller's 2026 NFL mock draft

Is it too early for 2026 NFL draft talk? The simple answer is yes, but in the NFL, that's par for the course, and ESPN's Matt Miller is already diving in head-first. After digging through early film, Miller decided it was time to compile his first 2026 mock draft. In it, he has the New York Giants selecting second overall based on ESPN's Football Power Index. It predicts the Giants finish with a record of 6-11, only fractionally better than the Cleveland Browns, who end up picking first overall. So, following another lost season, who do the Giants target in their latest attempt to turn things around? Miami offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa. Mauigoa enters his third college season as a player on the rise. After allowing five sacks during his true freshman season in 2023, the 6-foot-6, 315-pound right tackle didn't allow a sack last season and drew only three penalties. Mauigoa is best as a run blocker in a zone scheme, with quick feet and the agility to get to the second level. He'd serve as a replacement for disappointing 2022 first-rounder Evan Neal and join a youthful offense which also features 2025 first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart, star second-year receiver Malik Nabers and emerging running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. Francis is not to be confused with his brother, linebacker Francisco Francis Mauigoa, who was selected by the New York Jets in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. Mauigoa may finish the 2026 campaign as the top offensive line prospect in the country, which is precisely what the Giants are likely to be looking for. With Neal moved to guard and his fifth-year option declined, and Jermaine Eluemunor in the final year of his contract, Big Blue will again be in the market for an offensive tackle next offseason. The one problem with this scenario is that if the Giants again finish with one of the worst records in football, general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are likely on their way out of town.
