Dieux Ethereal Facial Cleansing Oil Review 2025

Cosmopolitan27-05-2025
In case you're new here (welcome!), Cosmo HQ Review is the corner of the internet where we (aka Cosmo's team of beauty editors) try out new, buzzy, and iconic products to see if they're worth the hype and, ultimately, your money. On today's lineup? The just-launched Ethereal Facial Cleansing Oil from Dieux, the same brand behind the celeb-favorite Instant Angel Moisturizer (Mrs. Hailey Bieber is a devoted fan) and the viral Forever Eye Masks.
With a 10,000+ person waitlist and Dieux's cult following, we knew this oil cleanser would have a lot to live up to. It promises to remove makeup and excess oil while thoroughly cleansing the skin. And we were lucky enough to get our hands on it weeks before the launch date.
Keep scrolling for three beauty editors' unfiltered reviews of Dieux's Ethereal Facial Cleansing Oil.
"I must admit: this was the first oil cleanser I've ever used in my life. As someone with acne-prone and super-dry skin, non-stripping creamy cleansers have always worked best for me. But I was willing to give this a try in the name of beauty journalism—partly because I don't love using cleansing balms to remove my makeup, and partly because the rest of my team had rave reviews (keep scrolling for those).
When I first put this into my hand, the slick formula made me nervous. But once I mixed it with some water and started emulsifying it by rubbing my hands together, it turned into a lovely milky texture. It takes off all my makeup with just a few swipes, and it doesn't feel overly oily on my skin. (I currently use the Sofie Pavitt Micellar Pads, but I have to go through at least two or three rounds of removal before I can start washing my face.) It left me feeling refreshed and cleaner than any cleansing balm or makeup wipe.
It's worth noting that the formula's first ingredient is a palm oil extract, which has a reputation for clogging pores. That said, it's also commonly used to break down makeup, SPF, and excess oil. If you're super acne-prone, this is something to keep in mind before adding Ethereal to your routine. I haven't had a problem so far, but if I start breaking out without changing anything else in my skincare or makeup routine, this may be the culprit."
Dieux makes one of the best face washes I've ever used—the Baptism Gentle Foaming Facial Gel Cleanser. It has a really plush, cushiony lather that feels delightful, and unlike a lot of gel cleansers, it really gets in there to deep-clean pores without drying out skin. I love it so much, I recently awarded it 'best gel face wash' in our 2025 Holy Grail Beauty Awards.
That said, I do need to use an oil cleanser before Baptism to fully remove my tinted sunscreen and makeup at the end of the day, so I was jazzed to see a sample of the new Ethereal Cleansing Oil on my desk.
The two best things about the formula are the texture and the way it makes my skin feel once I rinse it off. So many oil cleansers are thin and drippy and end up making a mess, but this one has a slightly thicker consistency, so it massages in nicely without running down my face and hands. Now for the rinse off. I'd normally never use an oil cleanser without following up with a gel or cream wash after, but Ethereal leaves zero film or product-y feeling on my face, so it actually feels clean (not just free of makeup) without a second cleansing step. After massaging it into dry skin, you just add a little water, and it rinses off with no weird residue.
I was an early adopter of the oil cleanser, which has given me extremely high standards. What's worse: an aesthetician recently told me to ditch all oils, including the cleansing variety, if I wanted to clear my skin. For months, I opted for micellar water to take off my eye makeup before a thorough cleanse with my go-to gel face wash. So when I heard Dieux, a brand that carries one of my all-time favorite non-comedogenic moisturizers—the Air Angel Gel Moisturizer—I admittedly wrote it off and continued on my oil-less path.
But beauty director Lauren Balsamo, who's had a similar acne-prone trajectory as I have, waved a green flag, so I said eff it and decided to try it out. I braced myself for impact as I massaged the lightweight oil into my skin. It feels much lighter than other oil cleansers I've tried and spreads evenly over my skin. And to my surprise, it removes all of my makeup. That's where my micellar water era has been falling short, considering I'm not a 'natural' girl. At any given moment, my face is covered in foundation, concealer, contour, bronzer, blush, powder, eyeshadow, mascara, brow gel, brow pencil, lip stain, lip liner, gloss—like, a makeup remover has to put in a whole lotta work with me. But this one actually gets everything off, so once I go in with my gel cleanser (currently, that's iS Clinical Cleansing Complex), my face feels so freakin' clean and ready for any and all actives and treatments I'm about to throw at it.
Now, is it good for my acne? Hard to say, considering my skin is hormonal as hell and it's hard to predict whether it's just my DNA making me break out or a new product. But I've used this for over a month at this point, and I've had some of my best skin days (and also some not-so-great ones), so I don't think I can confidently connect the two. All I know is I love how it removes my makeup and how light it feels on my skin—so much so, that I plan to keep using it as my go-to oil cleanser.
The Ethereal Facial Cleansing Oil is one of the best makeup removers we've tried in a looong time—and the fact that it doubles as a face wash makes it even better. If you're acne-prone, proceed with caution. But if you're looking to remove every trace of makeup, sunscreen, and sweat from your skin this summer, look no further than this $28 bottle of magic. We have a feeling this is going to be one of Dieux's biggest launches yet.

How to Style Summer's Capri Pants Trend That Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski Just Co-Signed

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Last week, Emily Ratajkowski and Hailey Bieber both stepped out wearing capri pants, co-signing the return of the polarizing pant trend. Hailey Bieber's capris, spotted in her Instagram post from July 16, were part of a matching set alongside a body-hugging jacket, which she wore with strappy sandals. EmRata, on the other hand, styled her pedal pusher pants in two different ways on the same day: with a graphic, long-sleeved shirt for a more casual look and with a scoop-neck, fitted blazer for a polished take on the trend. More from WWD Jennifer Lawrence's Chic Liffner Tote Makes the Case for Suede Bags in the Summer Rosé Races Into Summer With Puma's Latest Speedcat Sneaker in a Fresh Colorway From A'ja Wilson to Caitlin Clark, High Heels Were Trending During WNBA All-Star Game Arrivals This twinning style moment was no coincidence, though. Capri pants are emerging as one of summer 2025's biggest trends, and the fact that they earned both Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski's seal of approval in the same week is all the proof we need. Before taking over every style influencer's Euro summer vacation Instagram posts this summer, the return of capri pants could first be spotted on the spring runways. Sandy Liang's spring 2025 show highlighted puff-sleeve jacket and capri pant ensembles redefining modern workwear; Louis Vuitton dolled up the silhouette with stripes and slouch; Carolina Herrera played with proportions by juxtaposing puffy tulle tops with cigarette-slim pedal pushers; and Tommy Hilfiger, emblematic of all things 'preppy Americana,' made its spring 2025 collection's capri pants checkered and bright. Beyond the runways, capri pants have been a current favorite of fashion insiders who are emulating the city-chic aesthetic of 2000s sartorial icons like Carrie Bradshaw, generating thousands of TikTok and Instagram likes for their capri pants styling equations in the process. The beloved fictional character, after all, was a fan of the pedal pushers trend that boomed during the early aughts: donning them in many 'Sex and the City' scenes with striped blazers, vibrant headscarves, and other masterful matches. The synchronized return of capri pants — recently spotted on both Emily Ratajkowski and Hailey Bieber — follows a wave of A-listers embracing the calf-skimming silhouette. Bella Hadid was early to the revival, debuting a sleek Ferragamo pair in 2024 styled with a matching bomber jacket and leather mules from the brand. Since then, Hadid, like Bieber, has consistently offered fresh takes on the trend. She's joined by a growing list of style-setters including Dua Lipa, Anne Hathaway (who swapped her 2025 Met Gala gown for a capri-powered after-party look), Kendall Jenner, and the original Carrie Bradshaw herself, Sarah Jessica Parker. Together, they're making a strong case for the capri pant, especially for warm-weather city strolls and Euro Summer escapes — when full-length pants feel like too much, but structure is still a must. The original capri pants can be traced back to German fashion designer Sonja de Lennart during World War II. Rebelling against the notion that trousers were strictly for men, de Lennart designed a pair tailored to her petite frame, featuring chic slits and a hem that hit just below the knee. She named them 'Capris' as an ode to the Italian island where her family vacationed. After debuting in 1948, the pants — also referred to as pedal pushers, a nod to the cycling-friendly length that avoided getting caught in bike wheels — quickly gained traction and made their way to the U.S., where they were embraced by Hollywood's inner circle. Their iconic status was solidified with a breakout appearance in Roman Holiday. Once Audrey Hepburn was seen in a pair of the prototypical capri pants, everyone wanted to own them, and de Lennart's hero product was later donned by the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor: appreciated for its originally rebellious intentions and modern-woman appeal. Today, capri pants take the form of leggings, too, and come in many different materials: from denim and cotton to the canvas that makes up some cargo variations. The silhouette remains polarizing, largely because it can shorten the legs if the hemline doesn't hit at the right length. To avoid that effect, opt for a pair that hits as close to your knee as possible and fits without cutting off your proportions. Also, opt for shoes that show the front of your feet for an added lengthening effect (kitten heel sandals are stellar). Because of their tight-fitting nature in most cases, it's best to style capri pants with something looser and more fluid, like a cape-sleeve top. Worried about your curves being lost in all that fabric? Go the opposite route and stick to body-skimming camisoles. For corp-core style, consider investing in high-waisted capri pants and tucking a starched button-up into them; so as to avoid excessive matchiness, stick with neutral coordinates if you're wearing patterned capri pants or spice up a white pair with an on-trend, polka-dotted halter top. Capri pants in the leggings category can easily work with a bra-bikini hybrid under a blazer, and jean ones practically beg to be complimented by Y2K-coded bags, hairbands, and other accessories that will take you back to a simpler time. Still don't see the vision? We'll make it easier for you by providing some capri pants outfit ideas ahead. Given their current trending status, there's no shortage of capris on the market to choose from right now, but below are the styles our editors believe have the highest payoff in terms of styling the trend this season. It's the Summer of Subverted Polka Dots

Every summer, certain breakout fashion trends emerge—as though we all collectively got the same memo that a certain print or shoe is in. These past few weeks, the streets have been taken over by polka dots: they're everywhere! Celebrities such as Hailey Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo, and Rihanna have all been embracing the retro pattern in fresh, new ways. (They were also a huge trend of the resort 2026 season.) But while dotted designs can lean 1920s, the era they became popularized, the new styling approach is all about subverting that sweetness—by plastering dots on unexpected pieces like ties, shorts, and even capri leggings. Call it a cooler, grungier take on polka dot dressing; the 2025 way of wearing the pattern is all about offsetting it with more downtown-worthy pieces. Earlier this week, Rihanna offered a masterclass in the trend: The star dined at Giorgio Baldi in an oversized ERL suit and sheer Fenty bra, punctuating the look with a big polka-dotted tie, left undone around her neck. It struck the right balance of classic and contemporary. Ditto for Olivia Rodrigo, who stepped out in New York this summer wearing a pair of micro polka-dotted shorts. Styled with a blank tank and leather biker boots? She made polka dots worthy of a pop-punk star.
