Though he formally came out at Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards in 2012, the actor recalls how his private life was blogger fodder for Perez Hilton in the early 2000s.
"It was a time when folks could kind of take over your own personal narrative before you even had a chance to," recalled the heartthrob. "I remember outlets like Perez Hilton talking about my personal life before I had ever had a chance to even do it myself. And it wasn't because I didn't want to; I didn't even have an opportunity to."
Though he wasn't closeted per se, Bomer called it "a weird time."
"No media outlet was ever going like 'Hey!' I just didn't have a career that warranted that," he said. No one cared about his story at that time, Bomer told Ferguson, because he wasn't a big enough name. "It felt kind of unfair to me, that that was stolen by people who did have a microphone at the time."
Bomer formally came out at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards in 2012 when he was honored for his HIV activism and he thanked his family on stage during the acceptance speech. "I'd really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry. Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment," he said.
The actor told Ferguson that he did it because he didn't want his husband Simon Walls or his three boys "to feel like they were some kind of shameful secret or something I was sweeping under the rug so I could have a great career."

Katie Holmes Joshua Jackson Reunion Movie Best Reactions

That sound you hear? Well, it's thousands of Dawson's Creek fans absolutely losing their minds over Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson in the year 2025. Yesterday, photos emerged of Katie and Josh filming in NYC. The photos are extremely Pacey and Joey coded, which is why everyone started to freak out over what this could possibly be. Then, Deadline exclusively revealed that Katie and Josh are actually filming Happy Hours, a new film trilogy that Katie also wrote and is directing, with the Dawson's Creek duo starring in the film as the leads. According to the outlet, the trilogy will be filmed back to back. Alongside Katie and Joshua, the films are also set to star Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson, Jack Martin, and more. Happy Hours is set to follow two people (Holmes and Jackson) who are navigating their relationship while also juggling their careers, families, and love. Per Deadline, the film is "a character-driven dramedy that explores the emotional journey of young loves who reconnect as adults, with the connective thread of shared joys, loss, and hope." It's worth noting that while also starring on Dawson's Creek together for six seasons from 1998 to 2003, Katie and Josh also reportedly dated for about a year early in the show's run. When asked about their relationship in a 1998 interview with Rolling Stone, Katie said, "I'm just going to say that I met somebody last year. I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always." Then, in 2003, Joshua publicly talked about their relationship, telling Conan O'Brien, "In the very beginning Katie and I did have a romance." Earlier this year, while appearing on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Dinner's on Me podcast, Joshua opened up about his friendships with his Dawson's Creek costars, including Katie, saying, "Busy [Philipps] and Michelle [Williams] are very, very close. And Katie and I are very close. It's not a daily call. Sometimes it's not a weekly or monthly or even a half-yearly call. But when you're together, A, there's always that, like, I know you know." He continued, "And B, there is, you know, these moments, like, these major moments in life are, like, other than your husband, there's probably no other people in your life that you are that forged to. Because you had to go through good and bad, and happy and fuck you, and dont talk to me, and I love you." Shortly after news of her new film trilogy broke, Katie posted on Instagram about the project, writing, "I am so very grateful to be working again with so many of my wonderful friends on this film HAPPY HOURS. And working with Josh after so many years is a testament to friendship. HAPPY HOURS is a love story that includes so many people I adore. We can't wait for everyone to see what we make." Busy, who starred on Dawson's Creek for two seasons as Audrey Liddell, commented on the post as well, sharing her excitement: And, just like Busy, fans — including myself — took to X, formerly Twitter, and Instagram to share their excitement over Katie and Joshua reuniting for this new romance trilogy. Here are some of the best responses: And finally: Well, we'll update you with more details as filming continues for Happy Hours, but until then, I will be liking every tweet, comment, and more with these photos because they are perfect. The Web Is Full of Watch Reviews. But He Wrote the First Ones.

At exactly 10:22 p.m. on Nov. 30, 1992, undertakers carried the body of Walt Odets's partner out of their home in Berkeley, Calif. The love of Mr. Odets's life had succumbed to complications from the virus that causes AIDS. A week later, Mr. Odets's therapist asked how he knew the exact time. 'Because I looked at my watch,' he replied. The exchange appeared in Mr. Odets's 2019 book, 'Out of the Shadows: Reimagining Gay Men's Lives' — a summation of his career as a clinical psychologist and H.I.V./AIDS activist that a New York Times reviewer called 'poignant and achingly beautiful.' In the book, Mr. Odets wrote that he had looked at his watch because he 'wanted to see something that was reliable, something that — unlike the human lives you loved and needed — could be trusted.' His lifelong fascination with wristwatches soon grew much deeper, and he did something almost no author — not even his father, the celebrated playwright Clifford Odets — can claim: He created a genre, the formal wristwatch review.
