Palm Oil Exports To The US Rise 51.8 Pct To 93,000 Tonnes For January To May 2025 -- KPK
KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's palm oil exports to the United States (US) increased by 51.8 per cent to 93,000 metric tonnes from January to May 2025, compared to 61,000 metric tonnes during the same period last year.
The Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) said that 65 per cent of the nation's palm oil exports to the US in 2024 were certified sustainable products used in high-value goods, while another 19 per cent consisted of palm stearin, a key ingredient in the food and personal care industries.
Although the US is not Malaysia's main export market for palm oil, the ministry emphasised that the government is paying attention to the 25 per cent tariff imposed by the US on Malaysian goods, which takes effect on Aug 1, 2025, to ensure that the country's market position is not adversely affected.
'The ministry is always vigilant and proactive in monitoring developments in international trade policies to safeguard the country's palm oil exports,' KPK said in a written response posted on the Parliament's website today.
KPK was responding to Datuk Siti Aminah Aching (BN-Beaufort), who inquired about the impact of the 25 per cent tariff imposed by the US on Malaysia, its effect on global demand for Malaysian palm oil, and the ministry's efforts to mitigate any negative consequences on exports.
The ministry highlighted that together with the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), it is continuing to engage in ongoing negotiations with the US to ensure fair, open, and mutually beneficial trade relations.
It added that various integrated initiatives are underway to ensure that Malaysia's palm oil exports remain unaffected and sustainable.
'These include promoting the transformation of the palm oil sector toward high-technology downstream products such as oleochemicals, processed food ingredients, and biofuels,' it said.
KPK said it is strengthening efforts to implement the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) 2.0 certification to ensure Malaysian palm oil meets international standards, particularly in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects.

Malaysia to roll out regulatory reforms, other measures following US tariff deal
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will roll out three key follow-up actions — an exporter outreach programme, regulatory reform and a nationwide supply chain mapping initiative — following the recent tariff renegotiation agreement with the United States which reduced tariffs on Malaysian goods from 25 per cent to 19 per cent. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the agreement, effective Aug 1, was achieved after "months of intense but thorough as well as methodical negotiations". "Most importantly, we achieved this without conceding on our red lines in key areas," he said in his keynote address at The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club Awards 2025 here today. Tengku Zafrul said those red lines included foreign equity limits in strategic sectors, legal safeguards in digital companies, halal standards and many other areas. But the key point, he added, is that the negotiation package was a all-of-nation offer, not just the government, but all (Malaysians and Malaysian companies). With the tariff deal in effect, Tengku Zafrul said the government is focusing on three key areas, starting with an outreach programme to support industry players and exporters. "Some of you in this room may be impacted, but again we will engage the whole exporters' ecosystem — not just the multinationals, but all the small and medium enterprises that are supporting the major exporters," he said. Secondly, he said the government aims to accelerate industrial reforms by cutting bureaucracy and reviewing regulations to eliminate overlaps, outdated provisions and irrelevant processes. "Thirdly, we need to strengthen the resilience of our supply chain by fortifying specific industries' role in the global supply chain," he said. Tengku Zafrul said Malaysia is making good progress on a supply chain mapping project, which aims to identify every player involved in the economic activities of key industrial sectors. Meanwhile, he said Malaysia's mid-cap companies — defined as listed companies with a market capitalisation of between RM100 million and RM1 billion — remain critical to the country's growth ambition under the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030. "For me and for our ministry, we view this award such as Centurion as one of the private sector's contributions to Malaysia's journey towards becoming a high-income, sustainable and globally competitive nation. "As of March 31, there are 519 such Centurions. And this speaks volumes about the vibrancy of Malaysia's mid-cap sector — a sector that is equally critical to our national economic aspirations," he said.

Sungai Bintangor Bridge officially opens to public, joins Kuching's cityscape as iconic new landmark
KUCHING (Aug 5): The much-anticipated Sungai Bintangor Bridge was officially launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in a ceremony held at the bridge site at 8.30pm this evening. Upon his arrival, Abang Johari attended a briefing session before delivering his speech, where he hailed the project as an engineering masterpiece and a potential tourism draw for Kuching, likening it to iconic bridges in Europe. 'This bridge reminds me of the iconic bridge one sees in places like Rotterdam. I think we now can say we have our own Rotterdam in Kuching now. He described the bridge as a catalyst for modern urban development and a symbol of smart city progress in the state capital, expressing hope that the surrounding areas would be further developed and beautified to benefit local communities. During the event, Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and Petros) and Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki proposed renaming the bridge after the Premier's late wife, Datuk Amar Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang, as a gesture of gratitude for her contributions to the people of Satok. 'I am sure with this name suggestion for the bridge, the Premier will agree with it. This name suggestion is also as a sign of gratitude to the sacrifices made by the late wife of the Premier to the people of Satok,' said Ibrahim. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah also addressed the audience, calling the bridge 'iconic' and one of its kind in Malaysia in terms of design. Located along Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol, the new bridge spans the width of Sungai Bintangor and serves as a crucial addition to Kuching city's road network. The cable-stayed structure, featuring a four-lane dual carriageway and an iconic central tower with intricate carvings, is set to become not only a vital traffic conduit but also a new urban landmark and tourism draw for the state capital. Fully funded by the Sarawak government, the RM50.6 million bridge began construction in December 2019, but progress was hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic and challenges in relocating underground utilities, leading to several delays. Spanning 114.34 metres, the bridge also comes with upgraded sections of Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol, enhancing connectivity for residents in Satok and surrounding neighbourhoods. It is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the area by providing an alternative route for motorists. The project is among the Sarawak government's high-impact infrastructure initiatives aimed at boosting regional development and strengthening Kuching's urban mobility network. The bridge was actually partially opened to the public in February this year. Also present during the ceremony were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sik Kui Hian, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and other officials.
