Bristol City appoint Gerhard Struber as new head coach
Gerhard Struber has been appointed as Bristol City's new men's head coach on a three-year contract until 2028.
The 48-year-old joins the Robins after most recently managing FC Köln in Germany and will join the squad when they return for pre-season training next week.
The Austrian has previous managerial experience in England after an 11-month stint with Barnsley in which he steered the club to Champioship survival.
Struber has extensive experience across several countries and has had spells at New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Salzburg before heading to Germany.
'We're very successful' - Struber
Gerhard Struber said: 'I am very excited for the job here with great fans and a great team. I'm looking forward to a new task.
'The style of play here fits completely, especially developing young players. This is a very interesting group, and I think they did a great job last season and we're very successful.
"Right now is the time to build and do everything we can to go the next step.
"The big responsibility is in the first team, to build, develop and create results but at the same time it is a duty to bring players from the local area and into the academy and give them a pathway to become a professional footballer at Bristol City.
'I like to play with high intensity on the field. We will control, we will dominate the game, and we'll play attractive football for the fans.
'We need them [fans] behind us, we need them over the whole season and with us through the ups and downs. We need the twelfth man behind us to help us achieve and take the next step.'
'Great fit for our club' - Lansdown
Struber replaces Liam Manning, who left Ashton Gate to join his hometown club Norwich City on 3 June, 2025.
The 39-year-old had guided the Robins to sixth in Championship last season, securing their first play-off campaign in 17 years.
Struber, who lost his job at Cologne in May despite guiding the second-tier club to the brink of promotion to the Bundesliga.
Bristol City Chairman, Jon Lansdown, said: 'We are delighted to have Gerhard joining us. He has managed in a variety different countries, including in the Championship, and brings a wealth of experience and energy.
'For the last four years, we have moved our academy teams towards a high intensity, pressing style of play, and combined this with recruiting younger players with those same capabilities for the first team.
'Gerhard's style is perfectly suited to this way of playing and his passion for developing younger players is also a great fit for our club.
'It's a really exciting appointment and I'm looking forward to together building on the progress the club has made.'

Tottenham interested in West Ham star Mohammed Kudus in surprise transfer not seen for 14 years
TOTTENHAM are interested in making their first signing from West Ham in 14 years. The North London outfit are keen on Hammers star Mohammed Kudus this summer. 4 4 Kudus, 24, arrived at the London Stadium in 2023 from Ajax for a fee of £35million. West Ham beat competition from Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea to snare the Ghanaian star's signature. However, the club are open to cashing in on the attacker in order to fund their own summer rebuild for manager Graham Potter. The Telegraph have claimed that Kudus could be set to the unlikely destination of rivals Tottenham. The Europa League winners are said to be open to breaking their "unofficial transfer embargo" to sign Kudus. Should a transfer go through, he would be the first player to move directly to Spurs since Scott Parker in 2011. The former England international joined the Hammers' rivals after their relegation to the Championship. Parker was a shining light at Upton Park that season as he was named the PFA Players' Player of the Year despite the club finishing bottom. Kudus is said to be open to the controversial transfer and has a release clause of £85m. A move would see him return to Champions League football and play under Thomas Frank. Kudus starred for the Hammers in his debut season in the Premier League. He scored 14 goals and assisted six more across all competitions as the club finished 9th and reached the Europa League quarter-finals. Last season, he failed to continue his electrifying performances as West Ham slumped to a 14th-placed finish in the Premier League. 4 He could only muster five goals and four assists in 35 appearances in all competitions. Kudus has recently changed agents to the renowned sports management firm ROOF amid speculation over his future. West Ham are yet to add to their squad this summer despite the exits of long-serving players Aaron Cresswell, Vladimir Coufal and Lukas Fabianski. There is still uncertainty over the future of Michail Antonio with his contract set to expire. The club's Premier League record goalscorer has not played for the club since his horror car crash in December. But he has made his return to the pitch as he appeared for Jamaica in the 1-0 Gold Cup loss to Guatemala earlier this month. 4

Frankfurt finisher Ekitike could be the answer for Mikel Arteta
Arsenal's long search for a striker capable of scoring the goals to lead them to their first Premier League title in 22 years has switched to another target, Frenchman Hugo Ekitike. The Gunners have been linked with a number of forwards already this summer with Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Bradley Barcola from Paris-Saint Germain and many others reported to be on their radar. The latest suggestion is Eintracht Frankfurt forward Ekitike is also on their shopping list although there's fierce competition to sign the 23-year-old France international with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United weighing up potential swoops. Ekitike scored 22 goals for the Bundesliga club last season and his finishing is exactly what is required at Arsenal, who were runners-up once again last term with Liverpool easing to the title. Mikel Arteta's long journey to bring his process at Emiratesto fruition and end that unwanted streak without the championship have not been helped by the Reds and Manchester City already making major moves in the transfer market. With Arne Slot having already spent more than £200million on new recruits this summer his chances of signing Ekitike may have to be placed on hold until the expected departure of Darwin Nunez to Serie A champions Napoli is completed. Getting £60million for their Uruguay striker would offset the £40m needed to sign Ekitike and help balance the books with Jarell Quansah on his way to Leverkusen and Andrew Robertson and Harvey Elliott also set to leave Anfield. The Reds are 4/1 with bet365 to win the Ekitike sweepstakes with Chelsea 13/2 with Unibet and BetMGM while all three firms have him heading to Old Trafford at 8/1. Arsenal are 18/1 with Bet Victor which appears a big price if their other attempted bids are falling short. It's interesting to note, however, that the shortest price in the Ekitike transfer market is the 6/4 with bet365 that he is still with Frankfurt when business in the current window is concluded. He has enjoyed a marvellous build-up to the grass-court grand slam by winning the title in Halle after beating Jannik Sinner in the last 16 and Daniil Medvedev in the final and he has also showed he has the mental and physical strengths to thrive under pressure when defeating Alex de Minaur and Jack Draper on his way to the French Open quarter-finals.
