NSL Unwrapped: Lightning and Pulse secure top four
London Mavericks took a huge step forward in the battle for fourth as they beat Nottingham
Forest while Manchester Thunder took the northern bragging rights with victory over NIC Leeds Rhinos.
Lightning secure top four
Loughborough Lightning became the first team to book their places in the Netball Super League Play-Offs with a 71-54 victory.
Samantha Wallace-Joseph led the scoring for the visitors at the Utilita Arena in the Welsh capital as she was rewarded with the Kissimmee Player of the Match.
Down the other end of the court, Alice Harvey helped to restrict the Dragons shooters, who shot at 81% compared with Lightning's 93%.
Pulse pounce on Panthers to make play-offs
London Pulse secured their spot in the semi-finals with a 63-58 win over Birmingham Panthers.
The hosts found themselves behind after the first quarter as Panthers were clinical from within the goal area, before Pulse responded to lead at the break.
The team in pink slowly eked out a greater gap as changes to their seven proved fruitful.
And despite Panthers piling on the pressure late on, Pulse did enough to come away with a narrow win.
Mavericks make their mark
London Mavericks staked their claim for a top four spot as they defeated Nottingham Forest 57-48.
Emily Andrew was at her free scoring best with 42 goals, but it was Razia Quashie who stole the show as she restricted Forest's star shooter Rolene Streutker to just 21 goals.
The result pushed Mavericks six points clear of Forest in fifth with three games of the regular season left to play.
Thunder win War of the Roses
Manchester Thunder triumphed in a 69-55 win over northern rivals NIC Leeds Rhinos.
The away side made a lightning-fast start at the First Direct Arena in Leeds as quick scoring and a buzzer-beating goal from Elmeré van der Berg pushed Thunder out to an 11-point lead after the first 15 minutes.
The northwest-based outfit further increased their advantage before Rhinos were able to get a foothold on proceedings, reducing the deficit to just six at half time.
There was an immediate reaction in the third quarter as Manchester Thunder's defence began to turn the screw.
The gap remained thanks to a professional performance in the final quarter from Thunder who saw out their eighth win of the season.
History made at the Copper Box
England Thorns made history as they took on the Australian Kelpies in the curtain-raiser to Pulse's match on Sunday.
Their 63-34 defeat to the team from Down Under marked the first match in a maiden series between England and Australia on English soil.
The final two matches of the three-game Aurora Series will take place next weekend, with the Thorns taking on the Kelpies before Loughborough Lightning and London Pulse's home matches in Round 12.

Aussie mum-of-three and unified middleweight champion Desley 'Destroyer' Robinson becomes latest elite fighter to sign with Jake Paul's MVP
Unified middleweight world champion Desley 'Destroyer' Robinson has officially signed with Jake Paul 's Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), joining the likes of Shannon Courtenay, Jasmine Artiga, and Sa'Rai Brown-El in what is rapidly becoming the most elite female roster in professional boxing. Robinson, a proud single mother of three from Logan City, Queensland, holds both the IBF and WBO middleweight world titles at 160lbs after a remarkable 12 months that saw her rise from near-obscurity to championship glory. 'I love what Jake Paul, Nakisa Bidarian and the MVP team are doing for female boxing and I am so thankful that I will now be a part of that,' Robinson said following the announcement. 'MVP have signed some of the best female fighters of my generation, and to now be included in this is an amazing feeling. It is a privilege to have this opportunity and I can't wait to get over there and show the team what I have.' While Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, co-founders of Most Valuable Promotions, said: 'Women's boxing has never been stronger globally and today's signings further cement MVP's commitment to continuing to invest and elevate the sport like no boxing promotional brand has before. 'Desley, Jasmine, Yesica, Sa'Rai, and Shannon represent five powerful stories, four countries with proud boxing legacy, and one shared mission: to compete and win at the highest level. 'Signing a world champion like Desley Robinson, who is also a mother of three, is another important step for MVP's strategic focus on Australia and New Zealand and she joins our newly crowned Aussie and Kiwi undisputed champion Cherneka 'Sugar Neekz' Johnson and the soon-to-return Ebanie Bridges.' Robinson, known for her aggressive style and granite resolve, only stepped into a boxing gym to improve her fitness. But after over 50 amateur bouts and multiple Queensland and Australian titles, it became clear that Robinson had the heart - and hands - of a champion. After turning professional in 2019, Robinson racked up wins quickly and earned a title shot in just her seventh fight. Though she lost a close majority decision to New Zealand's Lani Daniels in December 2023, she bounced back in extraordinary fashion just a year later - fighting through a fractured foot - to claim the vacant IBF title with a gritty points win over fellow Aussie Kaye Scott. Only four months later, she returned to the ring and dominated Chloe Chaos to unify the division, winning the vacant WBO title with a masterful display of pace, poise and power. At 37, she now stands as the unified world champion at 160lbs and has finally earned her shot on the world's biggest stages. That global platform is exactly what MVP has made its trademark. Founded in 2021 by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, MVP has emerged as one of the sport's most influential and disruptive promotions. Its female-first ethos has turned heads and shattered records - none more so than the historic Taylor vs Serrano III card at Madison Square Garden, which became the most-watched professional women's sports event of the year. The Netflix-televised blockbuster saw 17 championship belts being contested on a single card and generated a sold-out gate of $2.63million - the highest for a women's sporting event in MSG history. Paul's promotional juggernaut also made Amanda Serrano the highest-paid female athlete in combat sports history that night, while broadcasting to more than 6m global viewers. Joining her in the MVP stable is former WBA bantamweight world champion Shannon Courtenay, who recently signed with the promotional outfit as part of her comeback campaign. Also on board is Jasmine 'Animal' Artiga, the undefeated WBA super flyweight world champion from Tampa who rose from the Legends Football League to boxing royalty, and Yesica Nery Plata, Mexico's former unified light flyweight champion. The 19-year-old phenom, Sa'Rai Brown-El, who is a 19-time US national champion and USA Boxing standout, is representing the next generation of stars now being brought into the spotlight. Paul and Bidarian's approach has been simple but seismic: create premium platforms, demand equal pay and exposure for female athletes, and showcase women's boxing with the production values and storytelling it has long deserved. It's a strategy that has shaken the boxing world and made MVP the go-to destination for elite women's fighters looking for more than just fights, but real careers. With her championship pedigree, inspirational backstory and all-action style, Desley Robinson now has the opportunity to take her talents from Australia to the global stage - backed by one of the most powerful forces in modern boxing. And for MVP, it's yet another step in their unapologetic mission to change the face of the sport one fighter, one title, one sold-out arena at a time.

Wrexham told to snub Christian Eriksen for ex-England stars as phone call comes to light
Wrexham have been urged to target free agents Jamie Vardy or Callum Wilson to strengthen their Championship squad after making an approach for former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen Wrexham have been told to prioritise the pursuit of two former England stars over Christian Eriksen. It was revealed last week that the Welsh side had made a sensational approach for the Danish midfielder following his departure from Manchester United. The 33-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving the Premier League giants in May. Eriksen's agent, Martin Schoots told the Daily Mail that Wrexham – owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – was a "hugely impressive project". However, the ex- Tottenham and Ajax player rejected the newly-promoted Championship outfit's advances. It came after Eriksen was said to have expressed his eagerness to remain at the top level for as long as possible. Former Blackburn striker Matt Jansen has now encouraged the Red Dragons to chase either Leicester legend Jamie Vardy or ex- Newcastle forward Callum Wilson instead. Jansen, who also had a short spell at Wrexham towards the end of his career, said the duo would be better options for his old club as manager Phil Parkinson looks to bolster his squad. Speaking to OLBG, he said: "I think all the way through the spine of the team, they need to strengthen. Then it's a case of having a good run. If they have that, with confidence and belief, it would push them to the top of the table. "I would say they have a good four or five players to get, top class players, proven goalscorers, to get to the top level of the Championship. "Most importantly for them is a goalscorer and you'd be looking at the likes of a Jamie Vardy or a Callum Wilson, free agents at the moment. I think they would both be a better signing than Eriksen." Parkinson has admitted this week that Wrexham did try and sign Eriksen early in the summer transfer window. But he said the talks did not extend further than an initial conversation. "There was a call, a bit of dialogue over the summer, but it's not gone any further than that," Parkinson told BBC Sport Wales on Monday. "But obviously he's a majorly talented player and very well respected throughout football." Wrexham have made six new signings so far this summer, including striker Ryan Hardie, goalkeeper Danny Ward, defender Liberato Cacace, midfielders George Thomason and Lewis O'Brien and forward Josh Windass. The club is preparing for its first season in the second tier in 43 years and Parkinson said he was aiming to make further additions before their opening game at Southampton on August 9. He added: "We've been linked with so many players and if we'd been speaking to every player we've been linked with, I don't think we'd have had an hour to sleep over the last month. Some are true, some aren't. "But we're just going about our business and trying to get a squad which can represent the club in this division this season."
