Iconic emo band spark breakup rumours on 20th anniversary

Metro3 days ago
It's been 20 years since Paramore released their debut album All We Know Is Falling but instead of celebrating, fans have gone into meltdown.
The 00s emo icons released a deluxe version of their album with four new tracks to mark the occasion before chaos hit the fandom.
Speculation that the band is splitting up exploded after frontwoman Hayley Williams, 36, dropped 17 new solo songs without any warning.
Days after the Paramore release, the tracks appeared on the Simmer singer's website, which could only be accessed via a code sent by her hair dye company.
As fans eagerly sank their teeth into Hayley's new music, fears that she had split with bandmate Taylor York, 35, began to grow.
Tracks like 'Disappearing Man' and 'Love Me Different' appeared to hint at a breakup, and, of course, fans jumped to the worst conclusion.
'Listening to new Hayley Williams album that's clearly about a breakup with Taylor York,' wrote @goodlarkcharm on X.
Ellimac_ added: 'Hayley Williams just released 17 songs about breaking up Taylor York. Hopefully unrelated, she also is selling a shirt that says 'HW is my favorite band'. Please say sike. I cannot handle another Paramore breakup rn.'
'So we've got Paramore disbandment allegations, Taylor and Hayley have broken up allegations…WELCOME TO HAYLEY WILLIAMS' THIRD SOLO ALBUM i guess…' said decodethemonstr.
Chall3ngers shared a gif of Family Guy's Peter Griffin driving off a cliff with the caption: 'Streets are saying Hayley Williams and Taylor York brokeup.'
Neither Hayley nor the notoriously private Taylor, who have been together for almost a decade, has said anything about their relationship to prompt this panic.

if hayley williams and taylor york really did break up then it might just truly be the end of paramore this time LOL — ﷽ (@fr4ilbugs) July 28, 2025
The Misery Business singer was previously married to Chad Gilbert, before their split in 2017, so some are pointing to this relationship as inspiration.
However, on one track, Hayley sings: 'Friends to lovers choking true/ You said it, I deserve someone who knows what I am worth/ Now I wonder what am I worth to you?'
Since Hayley and Taylor were friends for years before making it official, fans have taken this lyric to be about their relationship.
Elsewhere, she sings: 'The long walk between the car and the house/I just sit behind the wheel 'til the battery runs out/ Home is where we rule out, used to sing down the hall/ to your signature sound.
'Now it's just so quiet, I hate this gorgeous house/ Can't hear my heart beat over emptiness now'.
While fans point to her relationship with Taylor here, the track itself is titled 'Negative Self Talk', which fits with other songs that explore her own mental health — with one explicitly named after an antidepressant, mirtazapine.
Not everyone was spiralling online, with plenty of long-term fans poking fun at the instant doomsday response.
TaekyoghouI joked: 'Hayley Williams, you have to stop. You smoke too tough. Your swag too different. Your lyrics are so great that everyone starts believing Paramore broke up.'
Afterlauqhter added: 'Seeing longtime Paramore fans immediately jumping to doomerism when we've had these songs for precisely one hour and have likely only listened to each one Once and don't even know the context for the timeline any of them what is up with you guys? Just enjoy the music for now.'
This is not the first time Hayley has released solo music, having dropped two EPs then full albums Petals for Armor and Flowers for Vases / Descansos in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
She's also featured as a solo artist on collaborations like Taylor Swift's Castles Crumbling, a vault track from Speak Now, as well as 2010's iconic Airplanes with B.o.B.
Earlier this year, she released I Like It I Like It with Moses Sumney, which came with an official video of the pair posing together for a photoshoot as they sang the track.
Paramore's future has been a big question in fans' minds ever since their 20-year contract with Atlantic Records expired following the release of sixth studio album, This Is Why. More Trending
Their social media was wiped clean to mark this new era and a fresh slate, again prompting disbandment rumours.
After this, the band went on tour with Taylor Swift — a lifelong friend of Hayley's — with loved-up songs from the Paramore frontwoman and guitarist.
It's hardly surprising, with a packed tour schedule, label changes, and Hayley (and bandmate Zac Farro) working on solo projects, that the band is yet to announce new music.

Original Naked Gun creator David Zucker gives brutal verdict on Liam Neeson reboot

The Naked Gun creator David Zucker has revealed he was unimpressed by the reboot starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, and has no plans to watch the movie David Zucker, the creator of the Naked Gun franchise, has no plans to watch the reboot featuring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, and it's not just because he wasn't impressed by the film's trailer. ‌ Zucker, who also directed the original 1980s police comedy, revealed that he wasn't snubbed from the reboot but was rather left out after Paramount Pictures decided to reject his script in favour of working with producer Seth MacFarlane. ‌ The Naked Gun, which first hit cinemas in 1988 starring Leslie Nielson, Priscilla Presley, Ricardo Montalban and O.J. Simpson, was a box office hit. It comes after Liam and Pamela fuelled romance rumours with a cryptic social media post. ‌ READ MORE: What is really going on with Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson after romance rumours The spoof-comedy was followed by two sequels in the 1990s. Zucker, along with his brother Jerry Zucker and Jim Abrahams (otherwise known as comedy trio ZAZ), was also the creative force behind the 1980 cult classic Airplane! and he went on to direct films in the Scary Movie franchise. "I wrote a whole script for Naked Gun 4 on spec for Paramount," Zucker shared with the Daily Mail. "I understand the studio's thinking to go with Seth MacFarlane. He's a proven commodity and Liam Neeson is a big star, but it's not a fresh idea." ‌ During the early stages of the reboot's development, Zucker said he was approached by MacFarlane – best known as the creator of the long-running animated series Family Guy – who praised his work and told Zucker he 'idolised' the original Naked Gun films. "I had a conversation with Seth and he spent 10 minutes just telling me how he idolized Naked Gun, Airplane, Top Secret," he said. "How can you be mad at anybody who tells you how great you are? But it's not enough to be a fan…The guy at my dry cleaners is a big fan, but it doesn't mean he can do Naked Gun." The original Naked Gun film, based on the short-lived ABC series Police Squad! starred Nielsen as police detective Frank Drebin, as his character directly spoofed the widely popular crime dramas of the era. Following its release in December 1988, the film raked in $152.4 million on a budget of $12 million. In 1991, the sequel The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear was released followed by Naked Gun 33+1⁄3: The Final Insult in 1994. ‌ In the reboot released this Friday, Neeson portrays bumbling cop Frank Drebin Jr. – who has followed his father's footsteps into law enforcement – while Anderson stars as femme fatale Beth Davenport. Former Saturday Night Live writer and The Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer directed the remake, and also served as co-writer alongside Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. Zucker criticised the 2025 version for sticking to the same old formula, with similar gags as the first instalment. He highlighted one particular joke in the film, when Anderson's Beth is instructed to 'take a chair' when she arrives in Drebin's office, to which she replies: "No thank you, I have plenty of chairs at home." "We gave up doing those jokes 40 years ago in Police Squad," Zucker quipped before questioning Neeson's casting. OJ… he didn't need to be funny. And even Leslie Nielsen doesn't need to be funny. He just had to be a B movie actor. That's what we did... We didn't pretend to cast Lawrence Olivier or even Al Pacino, but Liam Neeson, for example, he's like Oscar quality. I think he may have won for Schindler's List. So I mean, what's he making fun of?" Sadly, this isn't the first occasion Zucker has been sidelined by Paramount Pictures during the early development of one of his films for a remake; he was also excluded from the 1982 follow-up Airplane II, which was penned and helmed by Ken Finkleman. The follow-up was slated by critics and managed just $27.2 million in the United States and Canada, whilst the original raked in $83 million at the box office.

Foo Fighters' new drummer revealed

Foo Fighters have reportedly chosen Ilan Rubin, known for his work with Nine Inch Nails, as their new drummer. Sources confirmed Rubin's involvement, though it is not yet clarified if he will be a full-time member or a touring drummer. This development comes two months after the band's previous drummer, Josh Freese, announced he had been 'booted' from the group. Freese had joined Foo Fighters after the recording of their 2023 album But Here We Are and was the replacement for long-time drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in 2022. Rubin has also played with other notable bands including Paramore, Lostprophets, and Angels & Airwaves.

Review: Liam Neeson's ‘The Naked Gun' is the funniest film of the year

A reboot of The Naked Gun has been a long time coming. Luckily, Liam Neeson has understood the assignment. Arriving three decades after the last instalment, Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult, the Irish actor takes the lead as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr, the cop son of Leslie Nielsen's iconic Police Squad! detective, in a hilariously punchy sequel. Co-writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, the team behind 2022's magnificently meta Chip N' Dale: Rescue Rangers, serve up a laugh-a-minute script, bursting with the sort of sight gags, non sequiturs and wordplay that made the cop parody such a defining addition to the comedy genre. Yet there's a more hard-boiled tone, with Neeson's Drebin introduced early as a gruff detective who violently dispatches a group of bank robbers – stealing a literal 'plot device' – while dressed in a schoolgirl uniform that could give Britney Spears a run for her money. His brutal methods put him and the Police Squad in jeopardy, and as he investigates the murder of the brother of Pamela Anderson's blonde bombshell Beth Davenport, he discovers a bigger conspiracy involving Danny Huston's corrupt CEO. The plot isn't that compelling, but that's no bad thing when it's in service to this many gags – all delivered with the utmost sincerity by the excellent cast. Neeson's casting was an inspired choice by executive producer Seth MacFarlane, whose Family Guy humour is keenly felt throughout the film, especially in a cutaway love sequence between Drebin and Beth that escalates hilariously when an enchanted snowman comes to life. You'd be hard-pushed to find a funnier film this year Anderson's casting proves just as rousing. Alongside Neeson, her commitment to every bit shows just how suited they are to comedy, from Drebin referencing Sex and the City in a Miranda rights gag and the actor throwing himself into a whole bodycam diarrhoea scene, to Beth's scat singing and taking Drebin's offer of 'take a seat' literally. Paul Walter Hauser, playing the son of George Kennedy's gormless Captain Ed Hocken, and CCH Pounder, bringing her Claudette-Wyms-in- The-Shield energy to her police chief, add even more witty conviction in their supporting roles. Director Akiva Schaffer's gusto for the ridiculous has a great track record, from Brooklyn Nine-Nine to Hot Rod, and here his deadpan direction makes the comedy sing. In the thick of reboot culture, The Naked Gun is a prime example of filmmakers taking a nostalgic piece of cinema and making good on its legacy. It honours the humour above all, and you'd be hard-pushed to find a funnier film this year.
