Shrewsbury's Feeney discharged from hospital

BBC News29-01-2025
League One bottom club Shrewsbury Town have had their concerns eased over the neck injury suffered by defender Morgan Feeney in Tuesday's loss at Stockport County after he was discharged from hospital.Feeney was stretchered off after 10 minutes of on-field treatment following a nasty aerial collision at Edgeley Park. But, although he was taken to hospital, the 25-year-old Liverpudlian has since been discharged."We're pleased to confirm Morgan was given a clean bill of health and was discharged from hospital in the early hours of this morning," said a Shrewsbury club statement."He went to hospital as a precaution," Town boss Gareth Ainsworth told BBC Radio Shropshire. "He had a crack on his neck, somehow either in the air or when he landed. "He came off conscious, but obviously you cannot be too careful. And I have to thank my own medical team and the Stockport medical team."
Shrewsbury's single goal loss at Stockport was their third straight 1-0 away defeat - and leaves them still with the joint worst away record in the third tier this season. Both Shrewsbury and 23rd-placed Cambridge United have each earned just six points out of a possible 42 on the road in 2024-25 - and five of the 12 away goals Salop have scored came in just one afternoon at Crawley in mid-October.But Ainsworth insists that his side really are close to getting an upturn in results - to try to eat into the current seven-point gap between themselves and safety. And he is ready to "unleash" his team a bit more over the final 19 games of the campaign. "There was only going to be one team who scored in that final 20 minutes. And that was Shrewsbury Town. And it took a miracle save from Ben Hinchliffe to deny John Marquis," Ainsworth added."Shrewsbury have been really good at staying in games since Gareth came in," said Stockport boss Dave Challinor. They obviously tried to nullify things in the first half and knew they'd probably maintain that until they could have a go at it in the last 20 minutes or so.""We have to start opening up and being a bit more aggressive. We're getting to the stage where we're now going to have to unleash and to start chasing points. I'd just like us now to start at home to Mansfield on Saturday like we finished this one."

Hamilton Accies have vowed to ban a section of their own support indefinitely after accusing them of "appalling behaviour" during a protest against the board on Saturday. A group of Accies fans staged a demonstration outside Broadwood Stadium ahead of the opening League One match of the season against Montrose amid anger over the club's move out of Hamilton to Cumbernauld after failing to negotiate a lease with the owners of New Douglas Park. Hamilton chairman Jock Brown branded the actions of the supporters "completely unacceptable" in a strongly-worded statement posted on the club website on Monday. Brown, the former Celtic general manager, stated: "Our opening league match of the season on Saturday was blighted seriously by people who have the audacity to call themselves Accies supporters. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad "A 'protest' took place at Broadwood which necessitated police intervention and heaped shame on the perpetrators who verbally abused decent supporters collecting their tickets – including our oldest season ticket holder and a teenage boy, a minor, who were subjected to disgusting foul and abusive language. "I have always supported peaceful protest, so long as it shows complete respect to innocent members of the public. What happened on Saturday was nothing short of a disgrace. Not only were our decent supporters abused, but members of North Lanarkshire Council and club staff carrying out their match day duties. Hamilton Accies chairman Jock Brown. | SNS Group "That is all completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We are taking steps now to ban the ringleaders of that shocking behaviour from all our matches indefinitely. "We are well aware that Accies fans did not want to move away from Hamilton. Neither did any member of the board. But we have already explained why staying at New Douglas Park was impossible. No other location in Hamilton was suitable so the temporary move to Broadwood was necessary. We have a two-year lease with an option for a further year. During that time we shall do everything possible to identify and develop a new site in Hamilton.

Hibs are edging closer to the signing of Scotland centre-half Grant Hanley after confirming that fellow defender Lewis Miller has joined Blackburn Rovers for a 'significant fee'. Australian internationalist Miller was entering the final 12 months of his contract at Easter Road after an extension earlier this summer and was wanted by a clutch of English Championship sides. The Scotsman understands that Blackburn have paid in the region of £1 million for the 24-year-old, who can play as a right-back as well as a centre-half. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Miller's departure leaves a void in the Hibs squad and discussions are ongoing with experienced centre-half Grant Hanley. The 33-year-old has been capped 62 times by Scotland and remains part of Steve Clarke's current squad. Lewis Miller has packed his bags and left Hibs for Blackburn Rovers. | SNS Group Formerly of Blackburn, Newcastle, Norwich and Birmingham City, Hanley is now a free agent after being part of the Blues' League One title-winning squad and attended Hibs' 2-1 Europa League defeat by Midtjylland last week. On Miller's departure, Hibs head coach David Gray said: 'I'd like to start by thanking Millsy for all his efforts during his time with us. 'Since making the move to Scotland, he's been coachable, willing to learn, and has relentlessly worked on his game. He's certainly seen the rewards for that both at club level and internationally. We know he can go a long way and wish him all the best in England with Blackburn.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hibs sporting director Malky Mackay added: 'We triggered Lewis Miller's contract extension back in April, knowing there was a lot of interest in him from the UK and abroad. It's been widely reported that we rejected bids for him earlier in the window and have worked hard to get a fee that reflects his true value.
