Former Kaizer Chiefs winger in rehab for marijuana

Most Kaizer Chiefs fans still remember Kgaogelo Sekgota. It was only in 2023 when the 28-year-old winger left Amakhosi after two assists in 48 appearances.
The Polokwane-born attacker followed that with short stints at Stellenbosch FC and Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership, before the move to Upington City in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The Northern Cape-based club has confirmed that the former Kaizer Chiefs winger is struggling with drug addiction.

Reports on social media claimed that the former Bidvest Wits and Swallows star has been struggling with marijuana and alcohol abuse. Last season, Sekgota was dismissed by two Betway Premiership clubs after six months at each club: Stellenbosch and Magesi.
'Orlando Pirates give you R90 000, R100, 000 per month'
Meanwhile, his new club Upington, are committing support. 'You can't dismiss a player because he is in rehab, so he still has an option with us,' the club's chairman David Mogashoa told FARPost .
'The player needs support, so I am going to support him. As I speak with you now, you can hear that I am in a car. I am driving to Limpopo to see him. You don't throw away people when they need help; you support them,' he added.
'We are encouraging him, and we also encourage everyone who has an issue to seek help. A player must never be crucified for seeking help. That's why I am driving to Limpopo now to go and see him,' the former Swallows chairman Mogashoa added.

Orlando Pirates news: Stars consider future, Transfer path narrows

Thabo Moloisane remains on Orlando Pirates' long-term radar, and the centre-back admits he's thinking about his future. 'When you have interest in your name, it shows you're doing something right,' he told SABC Sport . 'God is in control — we'll see what happens.' With Bafana ambitions on his mind, Moloisane is staying patient, but Pirates might be forced to act soon as other clubs begin circling. Meanwhile, uncertainty continues around Relebohile Mofokeng. Despite growing interest from Europe, the club has yet to comment publicly. Last year Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos predicted that the 2024/25 campaign would be Mofokeng's last with Orlando Pirates, a belief that the player's father hopes will become reality. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said. [Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,' say's the Orlando Pirates' player's father. 'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.' Appollis' arrival and his father's public plea for a move overseas have only made the situation more complex. Could a decision come before pre-season ends? Orlando Pirates star Saleng moving to promoted club

Orlando Pirates superstar winger Monnapule Saleng has endured his troubles, but now he's got a surprise escape route. The 27-year-old wide attacker hasn't played a competitive game for Pirates in 2025. PSL new boys, Orbit College, are his likely next destination on loan. Chiefs complete deal for R18 million valued ex-Pirates star According to SABC Sport, Monnapule Saleng will move to Orbit College on loan for the 2025-2026 season. The 2022-2023 PSL Player of the Season has become a fringe figure at Pirates since that dazzling campaign over two years ago. 'SABC Sport has established that Orlando Pirates are in advanced discussions to loan out winger Monnapule Saleng to their Betway Premiership rivals. Talks are ongoing between the Soweto giants and newly promoted outfit Orbit College to help revive the player's career. To help him find his feet again, SABC Sport has been informed that Saleng is edging closer to a loan spell at Orbit College, who were promoted to the Premier Soccer League topflight last month.' THREE candidates to take over the captaincy at Kaizer Chiefs

With Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart set to join SV Ried in Austria, the club will need to find a new leader. Amakhosi head coach Nasreddine Nabi has at least a month to identify a suitable candidate. The team is currently in the Netherlands for pre-season, where they will play five friendly matches before returning home. Among the players, six new signings are expected to take the field for the first time this week. Maart leaves Kaizer Chiefs after three seasons at the club. Although his past two seasons were mediocre, he played one of his best matches for the club in the final of the Nedbank Cup where he scored the winner. His presence and leadership will be missed, but with Thabo Cele having established himself, one feels Amakhosi will be sorted in the midfield. Inacio Miguel The Angolan international has worn the armband on several occasions for the Glamour Boys. Miguel is a natural leader and is likely to be appointed the club's new captain. His problem, however, is that he has a habit of getting unnecessary bookings, often leading to suspension. Thabo Cele Cele is arguably Kaizer Chiefs' best signing last season. Since day one, the 27-year-old Bafana Bafana midfielder has never looked out of place. Just like Miguel, he has the knack for picking up on booking, which could make Nabi think twice before making him captain. Brandon Petersen Petersen has often led from the touchline in recent seasons, with Bruce Bvuma preferred as the club's first-choice keeper. The 30-year-old Cape Town-born keeper is another obvious choice given his experience and leadership skills. Having spent much time on the bench, he made a rare start in the Nedbank Cup final, which Kaizer Chiefs won. From there on, Petersen earned Nabi's trust and is expected to be the club's first-choice keeper this season. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
