Actor Brad Pitt's LA home burgled and ransacked

LOS ANGELES - Burglars broke into Brad Pitt's Los Angeles home on June 26, ransacking the property and fleeing with stolen items while the Oscar-winning actor was traveling to promote his new racing thriller F1, US media reported.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told NBC News that a break-in took place at a residence in the Los Feliz neighborhood around 10.30 pm (1.30pm on Friday in Singapore), without officially confirming who owned the home.
Police sources told NBC News and the Los Angeles Times that three suspects climbed over a front fence and broke in through the home's front window before ransacking the location and fleeing with some belongings.
The value of the stolen items has not been disclosed.
Pitt was not home at the time, as he has been on a global promotional tour for his new movie F1.
The 61-year-old actor attended the film's premiere in London this week.
The property was purchased by Pitt in 2023 for US$5.5 million (S$7 million), according to Variety magazine.
Pitt is the among the most recent celebrities to have their Los Angeles homes burglarised.
About US$500,000 of jewelry was allegedly stolen from the home of French striker Olivier Giroud of MLS side Los Angeles FC in a burglary in February.
That same month, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's residence was reportedly burglarised. AFP

BUSINESSES, POLITICIANS WELCOME EVENT Friday's ceremony had no legal status under Italian law, a senior city hall official told Reuters, suggesting the couple may have previously wed legally in the United States to avoid the bureaucracy associated with an Italian marriage. While some residents and activists raged against Bezos as a symbol of inequality and arrogance, Venetian businesses and political leaders welcomed the luxury nuptials, hailing them as major boost for the local economy. "Those who protest are in contradiction with the history of Venice, which is a history of relations, contacts and business," Mayor Luigi Brugnaro told Reuters. "Bezos embodies the Venetian mentality. He is more Venetian than the protesters," said centre-right mayor, adding that he hoped Bezos, who donated 3 million euros ($3.51 million) to local institutions, would return to the city to do business. Brugnaro said Bezos had attached no conditions to holding his wedding celebrations in Venice, and City Hall had only learned about his donations after they had already been made. Sherry on top after first Group 1 win
Irish jockeys and their heavily accented brogue have been swooping down thick and fast on Australian Group 1s, with Tom Sherry the latest to join the elite band on June 28. After that unmistakable lilt from The Curragh to Tipperary was first heard at country and hurdle meetings around Victoria and South Australia in the last decade or so, the proverbial luck of the Irish has not taken long to spread to the more urbanised marquee events. From Johnny Allen, Declan Bates, Robbie Dolan to Martin Harley just recently in the J.J. Atkins, they were often hard to understand at post-race interviews, but they certainly let their riding do the talking at Group 1 level. Sherry's turn to enjoy the "craic" came after "an absolute peach" - as winning trainer Peter Snowden said - on third-favourite ($34) Tashi to claim the last Group 1 on the Australian racing calendar, the A$700,000 (S$584,000) Tattersall's Tiara (1,400m) at Eagle Farm. Melbourne Cup-winning Dolan's backstory as a "The Voice" contestant before he won the race all Australian jockeys dream of was cool, but Sherry's is no less compelling. Sherry landed in Australia in 2018 with not just his saddle and boots as baggage. He was jobless, having lost his licence in Ireland from a four-year suspension - later reduced - for a positive to cocaine. With his heart not in race-riding any more, Sherry was happy to just turn track rider Down Under. "It's been a long road, it's been tough, but moments like this make it all worthwhile," said Sherry, 26. "Winning a Group 1 for a lad from Ireland is a very big deal for me. I came here with 80 rides, rode 100 winners in my first season in Australia, all thanks to Mark. "The stars aligned today, and I can't thank Peter enough." A recipient of a 50th Group 1 accolade himself, Snowden was, however, not thinking for himself. "It's Tom's first Group 1, he rode her an absolute peach. Raducanu and Alcaraz practiced together at Wimbledon on June 27 as part of a sponsorship commitment and will play alongside each other at Flushing Meadows in September in the mixed doubles. Five-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz revealed last week he had made the request to play with Raducanu, who shot to fame when she won the US Open in 2021. 'We're just good friends,' said a smiling Raducanu, when asked about speculation that the two are dating. 'It was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian. In contrast to Alcaraz's meteoric rise since making his major breakthrough at the US Open three years ago, Raducanu has struggled to shine under the spotlight since becoming a household name. The 22-year-old has never progressed beyond the fourth round of the Grand Slam since winning in New York and has been battling a back injury heading into Wimbledon. 'Truthfully, I don't expect much from myself this year. I know I've just been dealing with certain things. I just want to go out there and embrace the moment,' added Raducanu, who faces fellow Briton Mimi Xu in the first round. 'I know there's not many opportunities to be playing at Wimbledon. You get it once a year and for a finite amount of time. 'I'm just looking forward to going out there and feeling the surroundings and the atmosphere.'
