'Dismantle this network': Canada's Alberta province seeks terror tag for Lawrence Bishnoi gang; follows suit from British Columbia
A second Canadian province has formally urged the Country's federal government to declare the Lawrence Bishnoi gang a terrorist organisation, a move that could strengthen India's case for extradition and action against wanted gangsters like Goldy Brar.
On Monday, Premier of Canada's Alberta province Danielle Smith and the province's minister for Public Safety and Emergency Services, Mike Ellis, issued a joint statement seeking the designation of the Bishnoi gang as a terror entity under Canadian law.
"The Lawrence Bishnoi Gang is a transnational criminal network responsible for violence, extortion, drug trafficking and targeted killings, including here in Canada.
Its reach is global, and its intent is criminal and violent," the statement said.

It added, "We know that gang activity knows no boundaries and respects no borders, and Alberta wants to send a clear message: you are not welcome here. Formally designating the Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist entity will unlock critical powers, allowing provincial and municipal-level law enforcement agencies to access the necessary tools and resources needed to effectively disrupt operations and protect our people.

Their remarks come weeks after Canadian state British Columbia's Premier David Eby also made a similar appeal in June.
India has repeatedly called on Canada to take action against gangsters like Goldy Brar, a key figure in the Bishnoi network and a prime suspect in the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. Authorities believe several members of the gang operate from Canadian soil.
If Ottawa formally designates the group as a terrorist organisation, it could allow for deeper cooperation between Canadian and Indian agencies on extradition, investigations, and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

Sexual assault probe: HC flays police insensitivity
Chennai: In yet another incident of police insensitivity while handling cases of sexual harassment, a woman victim was made to view her leaked non-consensual intimate images (NCII) in the presence of seven male police officers. The videos, shared online by her boyfriend, were shown to her during the investigation process to "identify" the accused. "It was not only the accused who violated her dignity guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution, but also each of the seven police officers present during the inquiry," Justice Anand Venkatesh said. "It was like adding insult to injury. Don't the officers have a little bit of sense? Society will not question the boy who committed the crime; it will question only the girl who the victim is," the judge said. The accused in such cases are the most intelligent, deadliest persons sitting in a room that we don't know where, Justice Anand Venkatesh said. The court then censured the police for revealing the name of the victim in the FIR and directed that it must be redacted from the FIR and from all those documents where it was incorporated during the investigation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo In no place must the name of the victim girl be shown, the judge said. As to the removal of the NCII of the woman lawyer from the internet, the Union govt informed the court that immediate steps were taken to block all the websites from where the contents could not be removed. However, Senior advocate Abudu Kumar Rajaratnam for the petitioner submitted that the videos/intimate images once again resurfaced on 39 sites. He produced the particulars of those 39 sites to the court. Recording the submission, the court directed the Union govt to file an affidavit explaining the various steps that were initiated and give a prototype as to what a victim girl must do when she is faced with a situation like this. In the meantime, the Union govt shall ensure that the NCII does not resurface and the technology discussed in the order passed by the Delhi and Karnataka high courts shall be adopted, he said. If ultimately, the Union can completely block the NCII and prevent it from resurfacing, it will be a test case that can be applied in the future to handle the situation more effectively, he added.

In six months, 120 deaths reported on rly premises
Mysuru: In the first six months of this year, about 120 people died in railway premises, including on platforms and near railway tracks in the Mysuru division. This is a cause of concern, as about 10% of individuals dying on the premises, are untraced. Mysuru Govt Railway Police (GRP) comprises three police stations—Mysuru, Arasikere, and Shivamogga. Their jurisdiction spreads over 650 kilometres of railway line in six districts—Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru. The police face significant challenges in handling cases of unidentified people, who are mostly destitute, having travelled long distances. Recently, a man was found dead near Mysuru railway station towards Nanjangud. The incident came to light nearly a week after the incident. Fortunately, his identity was traced, thanks to the Aadhaar card he was carrying with him. He was a resident of Andhra Pradesh, and his family was informed. Two weeks earlier, another person was found dead near Mandya railway station after he fell from a moving train. He was identified from his phone number. In another case, a woman was found raped and murdered at an under-construction building near Hassan railway station in February. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? But the woman's identity is still unknown, GRP said. Another man who suffered serious head injury, was found dead near Krishnaraja Sagar railway station in Mandya district in April. He was discovered by the GRP, and it was revealed to be a murder after the autopsy report. Police have launched an investigation into the case. Chethan V, police inspector of GRP, Mysuru, said that this year till June, 120 people have died on railway premises in their jurisdiction. "Of the deceased, as many as 10% are yet to be identified. In a few cases involving destitute individuals, they bury their bodies after preserving their belongings and taking DNA samples, he said." The previous year, about 250 people died in railway premises in their limits, and except for one or two, almost every death was either of natural cause, or accident by way of injury after falling from a moving train. "Postmortem is conducted on all bodies, to establish the cause of death," the officer revealed, adding that in two murder cases, investigation is underway.
