Israel opens new military corridor in southern Gaza
The corridor, called Magen Oz, stretches about 15km between eastern and western Khan Younis, according to a military statement on Wednesday. 'This corridor serves as a key component in applying pressure on Hamas and achieving the decisive defeat of its Khan Younis Brigade,' it added.
The route further divides the south of the strip, in which large numbers of civilians are sheltering after being displaced from the north and centre. The new corridor intersects with the Morag Corridor, which cuts off Khan Younis from the far south of the strip.
Israel has used such corridors throughout the Gaza war to exert control over the strip and prevent the movement of Gazans. The latest announcement comes as ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas appear to be stalling, with a key stumbling block being the timeline and extent to which Israeli forces would withdraw from the strip during a deal.
Defence Minister Israel Katz has presented plans to force all Gazans into a 'humanitarian city' on the ruins of the strip's southernmost city, Rafah. In a briefing to Israeli journalists, Mr Katz said the military would 'move' 600,000 Palestinians into the zone, followed by the entire population after which an 'emigration plan' would be enacted.
Twenty-one Palestinians died after gas fired into the crowd caused a crush at an aid distribution centre in Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Wednesday, the enclave's Health Ministry said.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Monday condemned the fast-deteriorating conditions in Gaza, warning that vital aid efforts are collapsing. Israeli bombardments have intensified in recent days just as aid deliveries are being impeded, undermined and endangered, he said. The area is packed with Palestinians displaced during more than 21 months of war in Gaza, hundreds of whom fled west or south after Israel issued an evacuation order, saying it sought to destroy Hamas infrastructure and capabilities. 'UN staff remain in Deir Al Balah, and two UN guesthouses have been struck, despite parties having been informed of the locations of UN premises, which are inviolable. These locations – as with all civilian sites – must be protected, regardless of evacuation orders,' the UN chief said. The warning came as more than two dozen western nations called for an immediate end to the conflict, stating that civilian suffering had 'reached new depths' amid Israel's expanded military operations in central Gaza. The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that conditions in Gaza are 'near impossible'. Israel's evacuation order cuts through 'Deir Al Balah all the way to the Mediterranean Sea, further fragmenting the Strip and pushing people into overcrowded, unsafe areas with no shelter or essential supplies,' OCHA said. Initial UN estimates suggest between 50,000 and 80,000 people are in the targeted zone, including some 30,000 displaced individuals sheltering in 57 sites. The mass evacuation order, the UN agency said, has 'dealt yet another devastating blow to the already fragile lifelines keeping people alive across the Gaza Strip.' The deepening crisis was underscored on Sunday when a World Food Programme (WFP) convoy carrying food supplies into Gaza came under fire near an Israeli checkpoint. In a statement, the WFP said crowds of starving civilians gathered as the lorries approached, only to be hit by gunfire from Israeli tanks, snipers and other forces. Dozens of people were killed. 'The agency is deeply concerned and saddened by this tragic incident resulting in the loss of countless lives,' the WFP said, adding that many more suffered life-threatening injuries. 'These people were simply trying to access food to feed themselves and their families on the brink of starvation.'

Call for end to war on Gaza 'disconnected from reality,' Israel says
The Israeli foreign ministry on Monday rejected the joint statement published by over 20 countries, including Canada, Australia, the UK, and Europe, calling for an end to its war on Gaza, "as it is disconnected from reality and sends the wrong message to Hamas". The statement, released earlier on Monday, used some of the strongest language yet to denounce Israel's starvation of Palestinians in the besieged strip. " The suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths. The Israeli government's aid delivery model is dangerous, fuels instability and deprives Gazans of human dignity," the joint statement said. " We condemn the drip feeding of aid and the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, seeking to meet their most basic needs of water and food. It is horrifying that over 800 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid. The Israeli Government's denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable. Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law," the statement continued. "We call on the Israeli government to immediately lift restrictions on the flow of aid and to urgently enable the UN and humanitarian NGOs to do their life-saving work safely and effectively".

US ambassador to Israel says he has resolved visa issue for Evangelical Christians
US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said on Monday that he has finally resolved a visa issue that led to hurdles for American Evangelical Christian groups coming to Israel. "Starting in January, a change in the manner which visas for Christian organizations had been processed for decades led to serious challenges bureaucratically and financially for the groups," Huckabee said in a statement posted to his X account. "Upon arriving in Israel as Ambassador, I learned that the changes in the process were creating delays, costs, and significant burdens with paperwork. After a meeting with the Minister of Interior, we thought the problem was settled but organizations continued to have issues. I informed the Prime Minister's Office of the problem and pointed out how detrimental it was to the relationship of the State of Israel with the American evangelical community," he explained. "The Christian organizations did not at any time ask for different or special treatment, but merely a return to what has been an efficient and satisfactory process for many years," Huckabee added. "Attorney Calev Myers, an Israeli attorney who represents some 150 Christian groups in Israel, was instrumental in outlining the request and the Prime Minister's Office was supportive and involved in the resolution along with the Minister of the Interior," he said. Evangelical Christians outnumber Jewish Americans in their staunch support for Israel in the US, and are represented by groups such as Christians United For Israel, among others, with influence on lawmakers in Washington.
