Sexual abuse in schools inquiry
Sadly, I experienced many years of physical and mental abuse. It is very disappointing that the dreadful abuse of corporal punishment, suffered by so many in this country, has not been included in this investigation.
Any kind of abuse, be it sexual or otherwise, leaves dreadful lifelong scars, and stays with victims for the rest of their lives. – Yours, etc,

Up to €5m goes missing after NTMA falls victim to phishing scam
An investigation has been launched after a multi-million euro scam was perpetrated against the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA). The scam, which is understood to have involved as much as €5m, was uncovered earlier this week after staff expressed concern about a payment made to a company connected to the Ireland Stategic Investment Fund (ISIF). The fund is managed and controlled by the NTMA and is described as 'a sovereign development fund with a unique mandate to invest on a commercial basis to support economic activity and employment in Ireland'. Given the nature of the fund, large amounts of money are often transferred through it. READ MORE It emerged this week that one payment which caused staff concern was bogus, with the request originating from an as yet unidentified and likely criminal source. It is understood the nature and timing of the request for the fund transfer was designed to increase the chances the scam would be successful. The NTMA has been quoted as saying there was no evidence that there had been a breach of its systems, with the criminals exploiting human vulnerabilities and deploying a type of invoice fraud on the agency. 'Following receipt of a complaint of alleged fraud, An Garda Síochána has commenced an investigation into this matter. No further comment is available at this time,' a Garda spokesman told The Irish Times. The NTMA is understood to be carrying out an urgent review to establish what happened and to ascertain if and how the money lost can be recovered. While it is not clear if this is what happened on this occasion, invoice fraud typically sees criminals making contact with businesses pretending to be a legitimate enterprise. They then work to earn the trust of individuals within that company with a view to diverting payments to accounts they have control over. The money then disappears through the international banking network.

Donald Trump threatens to revoke Rosie O'Donnell's US citizenship
President Donald Trump has said he might revoke Rosie O'Donnell's US citizenship after she criticised his administration's handling of weather forecasting agencies in the wake of the deadly Texas floods, the latest salvo in a years-long feud the two have waged over social media. 'Because of the fact that Rosie O'Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,' Mr Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, invoking a deportation rationale the administration has used in attempts to remove foreign-born protesters from the country. 'She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!,' he added. Under US law, a president cannot revoke the citizenship of an American born in the United States. O'Donnell was born in New York state. O'Donnell, a long-time target of Trump's insults and jabs, moved to Ireland earlier this year with her 12-year-old son after the start of the president's second term. She said in a March TikTok video that she would return to the US 'when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America.' O'Donnell responded to Mr Trump's threat in two posts on her Instagram account, saying that the US president opposes her because she 'stands in direct opposition with all he represents.' Mr Trump's disdain for O'Donnell dates back to 2006 when the comedian and TV host mocked him over his handling of a controversy concerning a winner of the Miss USA pageant, which he had owned. His s latest jab at O'Donnell seemed to be in response to a TikTok video she posted this month mourning the 119 deaths in the July 4th floods in Texas and blaming Mr Trump's widespread cuts to environmental and science agencies involved in forecasting major natural disasters. The Trump administration, as well as local and state officials, have faced mounting questions over whether more could have been done to protect and warn residents in advance of the Texas flooding, which struck with astonishing speed in the predawn hours of the Independence Day holiday on July 4th and killed at least 120, including dozens of children. Witnesses sought after motorcyclist dies following collision in Co Dublin
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Collinstown, Co Dublin that left a motorcyclist with fatal injuries. The collision involving a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer occurred on the Old Airport Road at about 10.50am. The motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, was brought to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin where he was later pronounced deceased. No other injuries were reported. READ MORE The road was closed for a technical examination and local diversions were put in place. Gardaí have asked anyone with information or camera footage of the area around the time of the crash to contact Santry Garda station on 01 666 4000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
