Chandigarh: In two years, glide on PGI-Sarangpur stretch as heritage panel okays flyover
This is the second flyover to be cleared for the city after the Tribune Flyover project, which recently received an in-principal nod from the Centre.
Confirming the development, UT chief engineer CB Ojha said, 'The heritage panel has granted its approval for the PGIMER- Sarangpur flyover. We are now waiting for the official minutes of the meeting. Once we get it, we will float the tenders for the project.'
As per officials, the tendering and project allotment process will take about two months while the flyover construction may take about 18 months. 'If things move as per plans, we can expect the flyover to be ready by March 2027,' said a senior official of the engineering department.

First proposed in 2020, the flyover project had run into several hurdles. A geotechnical study was conducted and a feasibility report was submitted but the project was shelved in February 2023 following the announcement of a Metro corridor along the same route. The proposal was later revived after a fresh survey, conducted under the supervision of deputy commissioner and road safety committee chairperson Nishant Kumar Yadav, flagged the stretch as a major traffic bottleneck.
To resolve the conflict between the flyover and the proposed Metro line, the UT engineering department in June suggested a double-decker structure—one level for Metro tracks and the other for vehicular traffic.
The project was tabled for final approval before the Chandigarh Heritage Committee, the authority for clearing projects requiring architectural changes to the city. The found that the flyover does not interfere with the sectoral grid of heritage sectors (Sectors 1 to 30) and thus gave its go-ahead.

The court was also told that these lands were reclassified for commercial use in line with the revised development plan. The move follows the civic body's earlier failure to reserve space for vendors displaced by the demolition of an old flyover near the station, prompting the court to question the govt's "contradictory stance" on rehabilitation. The sanctioned notification imposes three conditions before execution: A no objection certificate (NOC) from the defence department for overlapping land; legal compliance with pending litigation regarding MPSRTC land (Writ Petition No. 609/2019); and NOCs from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation and Railways. MahaMetro was directed to respond within three weeks on acquisition procedures, and the state govt must also clarify funding provisions. The govt stated, "Lands so released are shown as 'Multi-Modal Transport Hub' as per the sanctioned plan." The updated zoning map is open for public inspection at the NMC commissioner's office for one month.

Bullet train project: How a 12-storey high bridge is coming about, segment by segment, over Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad
An under-construction bridge over the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad, which is part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) or Bullet Train Project, is being built with the advanced Balance Cantilever Technique — where the superstructure is built segment by segment, without deploying support structures needed in the scaffolding style of bridges. When complete, the bridge, spanning 480 metres, will be 36-metre-high from the riverbed — equivalent to a 12-storey building. Located adjacent to the Western Railway's Ahmedabad-Delhi main line, which is about 14.8 meter high, the Sabarmati Bridge on the Bullet Train corridor will stand on a total of eight circular piers, four of which will be located in the riverbed. The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) on Friday said, 'A total of eight circular piers with diameters of 6 to 6.5 meters are constructed; four are located within the river bed, two are placed on the river banks on each side and two are outside the river bank. The bridge has been designed with strategic placement of piers to minimize obstruction in the river waterway… Once completed, the bridge will not only stand as a symbol of modern connectivity but also exemplify harmony between high-speed infrastructure and existing rail network.' In Ahmedabad district, the Bullet Train alignment crosses multiple structures, including flyovers, bridges, railway lines, and Metro corridors. 'To maintain the mandatory vertical clearance of 5.5 meters from the topmost construction point as per IRC (Indian Roads Congress) guidelines, the piers of the Sabarmati River bridge have been designed with increased height,' NHSRCL said. The advanced Balanced Cantilever Method has been deployed to construct the bridge across the Sabarmati river, which has a width of 360 metres. 'Balanced Cantilever Method is a specialised construction technique ideal for long span bridges over deep waters and rivers. The concept of this method is to construct a bridge without installing scaffolding systems under the bridge and complete the superstructure by sequentially joining the segments to form a span by post-tensioning and balancing the left and right from each pier using special erection equipment. This creates a continuous and stable bridge deck,' NHSRCL said. While most river bridges on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor typically have shorter spans of around 40 meters, the Sabarmati River bridge uses longer spans, ranging from 50 to 80 meters, to reduce the number of piers within the riverbed. 'The bridge comprises five spans of 76 meters each and two spans of 50 meters each. Each span consists of 23 segments being cast in-situ (construction at site). The casting of these segments requires meticulous precision, highly skilled workforce and dedicated team at every stage to ensure structural strength and quality… all foundation and substructure works have been successfully completed, the superstructure activities including pier head construction and segment casting are currently underway,' NHSRCL said. To ensure the highest standards of safety during the bridge construction, a robust set of safety protocols have been put in place particularly for activities involving working at a height. 'A structured work permit system has been implemented to ensure strict accountability and discipline at site. All workers are strictly required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including full-body harnesses at all times. To mitigate fall-related risks, catch nets have been installed below the Form Traveler/Bridge Builder structures. CCTV cameras have been installed for real-time monitoring of the construction process,' NHSRCL said. The Sabarmati bridge is among the 21 river bridges in Gujarat. A total of 25 bridges are part of the MAHSR corridor from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

Krystal Integrated Services Q1 net profit rises 7.4 pc to Rs 16.33 cr
Mumbai, Aug 1 (PTI) Diversified services provider Krystal Integrated Services on Friday reported a 7.4 per cent year-on-year growth in net profit at Rs 16.33 crore in the June quarter. The company had posted a profit after tax of Rs 15.20 crore in the first quarter of FY25. Revenue from operations for the reporting quarter increased 25.6 per cent year-on-year to Rs 323.08 crore driven by strategic contract wins and expansion across key verticals, compared to Rs 257.15 crore in the April-June period of the previous fiscal, the company said. EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) for Q1FY26 grew by 31.4 per cent year-on-year to Rs 21.35 crore from Rs 16.25 crore, while EBITDA margin improved marginally to 6.61 per cent in the first quarter of this fiscal as against 6.32 per cent in Q1 FY25 due to lower administrative costs and improved cost efficiency, the company stated. 'We have commenced FY26 on a promising note, with Q1 performance reinforcing our growth trajectory and our focus on strategic expansion. Our efforts to evolve as a comprehensive solutions provider are bearing fruit, as we continue to build scale across verticals and strengthen our presence in both core and emerging service areas," said Sanjay Dighe, CEO & Whole Time Director, Krystal Integrated Services Ltd. He said the company during the reporting quarter secured several contracts including a three-year contract worth Rs 31.55 crore from Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd to provide manpower services across multiple metro lines in Mumbai. Besides, it also got a contract worth Rs 20.26 crore from the Airports Authority of India to manage facility services at the newly developed terminal of the Patna airport as well as a Rs 12.83 crore housekeeping contract from MMMOCL, which includes cleaning and upkeep of trains, depots, and key infrastructure along Metro Lines 2A and 7, among others.
