Tributes to wingsuit flyer, 24, who died in crash in Swiss Alps
A spokesperson for the local police force said: 'On Saturday June 21 2025, shortly before 12:00, three wingsuit pilots launched a jump from Gitschen at approximately 2,400 metres above sea level toward Seedorf.
'One of the jumpers, a 24-year-old man from Great Britain, deviated from his intended course shortly after take-off for reasons still unknown and crashed into a rocky outcrop at approximately 2,100 metres above sea level.
'He suffered fatal injuries.'
The Uri Cantonal Police called for witnesses to come forward and assist the investigation in 'clarifying the cause of the accident'.
The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland is conducting the investigation alongside the Public Prosecutor's Office of Uri, police added.
In November, Mr Byrne featured in a BBC documentary, The Boy Who Can Fly, about his journey to becoming a champion skydiver.
His parents, Mike and Gillian, confirmed to BBC Scotland News that their son had died, and paid tribute to his 'wild energy' and 'contagious laugh'.
The Byrne family said: 'We would like to remember Liam not just for the way he left this world, but for how he lived in it.
'Liam was fearless, not necessarily because he wasn't afraid but because he refused to let fear hold him back.
'He chased life in a way that most of us only dream of and he soared.
'Skydiving and base jumping was more than just a thrill for Liam – it was freedom. It was where he felt most alive.
'Liam was more than just an adventurer. He was a son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend. He was a source of laughter and strength.
'He inspired all of us and made life better with his bold spirit and kind heart.
'We will miss Liam's wild energy and contagious laugh.
'Though he has now flown beyond our reach, he will always be with us.'
The documentary screened on November 8 showed Liam and his father, Mike, as Mr Byrne prepared for a wingsuit jump off Mannlichen mountain in Switzerland.
Speaking in the documentary, Mr Byrne, from Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, said that 'an office job scares me far more than the fear of dying from a base jump or wingsuit flight'.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said on Monday: 'We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Switzerland, and are in contact with the local authorities.'

They were said to have been asleep when the intruders entered their home. Ozzy stumbled into one of the burglars when he got up to use the bathroom at around 4am. The Black Sabbath legend, who was reportedly naked at the time, was then said to have held the assailant in a headlock before they fled by jumping from a first-floor window. It was suggested that the intruders had bypassed a security system at the home. They were said to have got in through the first floor and went through various rooms before making off with a "substantial" haul of jewellery. The haul was said to have included a 10 carat diamond ring given to Sharon two years prior when she renewed her wedding vows with Ozzy. Insurers reportedly put up a £100,000 reward over the stolen items, thought to be worth £1 million. During a press conference, Ozzy said: "When I had a go at the assailant, as I said earlier on, I acted purely on impulse. In hindsight, it could've been a lot worse. I could have been like George Harrison [who was once stabbed by an intruder]. I could have been badly injured or shot or anything." Ozzy said that things could have "got really ugly". As reported in footage from the time shared by ITN Archive, when asked if he would tackle a burglar again, Ozzy responded at the press conference: "Is the Pope a Catholic?" Sharon also gave details about her ring, which was reportedly stolen from a bedside table. She said: "[Ozzy] always said I was a perfect 10 [and] that when he had the money he would buy me a 10-carat diamond ring and he did." Years later, it was reported that a ring had been recovered after their daughter Kelly Osbourne, now 40, spotted it on the BBC's Crimewatch in 2011. It came following an appeal on the TV show for owners of stolen items to come forward after South Yorkshire Police recovered some jewellery. However, it was later revealed that the teen, from Billingham, County Durham, had been arrested 4,000 miles away on drug offences in Georgia. She was allegedly carrying 30 pounds (14kg) of cannabis into the ex-Soviet nation. Around the same time, 21-year-old Charlotte Lee May, from Coulsdon, south London, was also arrested in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo after police discovered 46 kg of 'Kush' - a synthetic strain of cannabis - in her suitcase. Middlesbrough teenager stabbed at skate park
A 16-year-old boy is in hospital after being stabbed in a skate Police said the altercation happened at about 19:50 BST on Tuesday at Middlesbrough Sports Village on Marton teenager was taken to hospital, where he remains, for treatment for multiple stab injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening, the force said.A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody.
