Three-language policy from Class 1 currently on hold: Dada Bhuse
'For now, the upcoming academic year will follow the existing practice,' Bhuse told the media after attending the Pune Children's Book Fair at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch on Sunday.
'The decision to start teaching a third language from Class 1 has been stayed. After we issued a Government Resolution (GR) making Hindi the third language, various views emerged. One suggestion was to begin three-language learning from Class 3 instead. We will invite fresh feedback from teachers and parents before taking a final decision,' said the education minister.
While Bhuse's statement has addressed the uncertainty, schools are demanding a written order. 'Whether three languages will start from Class 1 must be clarified through an official circular,' said a school principal.
In April, the state school education department issued a GR making Hindi mandatory as the third language from Class 1 in Marathi and English-medium schools of the Maharashtra State Board. This not only replaced the current practice of introducing the third language in secondary classes, it also sparked widespread criticism and political backlash across Maharashtra, especially over Hindi compulsion.
Following the controversy, it was announced that Hindi would no longer be mandatory, and a new GR would offer alternative options.
However, the ministry had maintained that three-language learning would begin in Class 1 from the 2025–26 academic year.
But with only weeks left for the new academic year, no guidelines have been issued regarding alternatives to Hindi as a third language, leading to confusion. While Bhuse's statement offers clarity, many note that nothing has been confirmed in writing.

Anupam Kher's directorial venture ‘Tanvi the Great' declared tax free in Madhya Pradesh
BHOPAL: Actor-director Anupam Kher's directorial venture 'Tanvi the Great' was declared tax free in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav made the announcement, after watching the special screening of the movie with the film's cast and crew, including director Anupam Kher. 'Today, I had the opportunity to watch the film, Tanvi the Great with the renowned actor and director Anupam Kher in Bhopal. I announce the film to be made tax-free in MP. This touching film is dedicated to the struggles, determination and dreams of an autistic girl. It inspires people to be more sensitive, humane and compassionate towards special children. Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Anupam Kher and his entire team for the wonderful film,' the MP CM posted on X (formerly twitter) after watching the movie's special screening. This is the second Hindi movie after the Vicky Kaushal-starrer 'Chhaava' to be declared tax free in Madhya Pradesh within five months. 'Tanvi the Great' is the fourth movie to have been declared tax free in Madhya Pradesh by the 19-months-old Dr Mohan Yadav government. Prior to Chaava, Vikrant Massey and Raashii Khanna-starrer movie 'The Sabarmati Report' was declared tax free in November 2024, eight months after Yami Gautam-starrer 'Article 370' was granted similar tax benefits in the central Indian state. Before it, in May 2023, then CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had declared Hindi movie, 'The Kerala Story' tax free and also watched the movie with the film's cast and crew in Bhopal. In June 2022, Chouhan had declared Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Samrat Prithviraj' as tax free, just two months after granting similar benefits to Anupam Kher-starrer, 'The Kashmir Files.' But it's not just BJP regimes which have declared movies tax free in MP, as even the 15-months-old Kamal Nath led Congress regime, had declared Deepika Padukone-starrer Chhapaak (based on the real-life struggle of an acid attack survivor) and Taapsee Pannu-starrer 'Thappad' (which dealt with issue of domestic violence) tax free in the state.

'We aren't enemies': Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis thanks opponents Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar - here's why
NEW DELHI: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday thanked NCP(SP) president Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena(UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray for praising him in the coffee table book 'Maharashtra Nayak', released at Raj Bhavan to mark his 55th birthday. This comes amid a heightened political chatter of a reunion, especially after Fadnavis' "come to the ruling side" directed at Thackeray followed by a meeting the day after. "We are ideological opponents and not enemies," PTI quoted Fadnavis saying. "Sharad Pawar is a large-hearted and senior leader. His comments are priceless for me," he added. Last week, Thackeray and Fadnavis held a meeting for over 20 minutes at the office of Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde. The meeting was held a day after Fadnavis said that Thackeray "can come to the ruling side in a different way." "At least till 2029, there is no scope for us to come there (opposition). Uddhav Ji can think about the scope of coming to this side (ruling party) and that can be thought about in a different way, but there is absolutely no scope left for us to come there (opposition)," Fadnavis had said. The BJP and Shiv Sena enjoyed a stable alliance for over 25 years until friction emerged in 2014 over seat-sharing arrangements. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 most beautiful women in the world Undo Despite contesting the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections together and securing a majority, Uddhav Thackeray broke away post-polls to form a government with the Congress and NCP under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) banner, a move seen as betrayal by the BJP. However, in 2022, Fadnavis played a central role in engineering a dramatic political coup. With support from Eknath Shinde, who split the Shiv Sena, the MVA government collapsed, and the BJP returned to power in alliance with the Shinde-led Sena faction. Fadnavis took the deputy chief minister's post, while Shinde assumed the chief ministership. Although the alliance secured a sweeping mandate in the 2024 elections, Shinde, who had been chief minister since the coup, appeared hesitant to relinquish the top post to Fadnavis. Moreover, speculation over a possible alliance between Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has grown since the two leaders appeared together on July 5, their first joint appearance in 20 years. The show of unity came as they celebrated the state government's rollback of Hindi language mandates in schools.
