Vice Chancellors of JNU will be referred to as Kulgurus, says MP CM

(JNU) will be henceforth referred to as "Kulgurus", drawing "inspiration" from a similar decision of the
Madhya Pradesh government
last year, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Wednesday.
Addressing ministers ahead of the state cabinet meeting, Yadav stated that JNU has adopted the "navachar" (innovation) introduced by the state government. "Like Madhya Pradesh, the Vice Chancellor of JNU will now be known as 'Kulguru'," he said.
However, the chief minister did not clarify whether JNU has formally implemented this change or if an official administrative order has been issued.

Yadav noted that the decision draws inspiration from a decision taken by the Madhya Pradesh government last year, which renamed the university post of Vice Chancellor (Kulpati) to "Kulguru."
He had stated that the change aligns with
Indian sanskriti
(culture) and Guru Parampara (spiritual tradition), and that the term "Kulpati" could be problematic for women officeholders due to its awkward connotation.

The chief minister on Wednesday reiterated that women beneficiaries of the
Ladli Behna Yojana
will receive a special assistance of Rs 250 for Rakshabandhan, in addition to their regular monthly financial aid. Beneficiaries will receive the amount directly into their accounts on July 12.
To mark Guru Purnima on July 10, Yadav announced a two-day
Guru Purnima Utsav
in all schools and colleges. District ministers, public representatives, prominent citizens, and saints will participate in the celebrations.
On this occasion, Sandipani Vidyalaya (Kamala Nehru School) will be inaugurated in Bhopal, he added.
Yadav claimed the removal of BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) has reduced road accidents by 51 per cent and fatalities by 70 per cent, which he said is a "pleasant outcome of the decisions taken by the Madhya Pradesh government in public interest".
The government had decided to remove BRTS in January 2024.

Kochi: A new affidavit submitted by the state govt in high court on Tuesday indicates that the govt seems to have significantly softened its stand on a legislating against black magic, witchcraft, sorcery and other inhumane practices carried out under the guise of supernatural powers. A previous affidavit filed by home department deputy secretary had asserted that the council of ministers, on July 5, 2023, had decided not to proceed with the Kerala Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices, Sorcery and Black Magic Bill, 2019. It was also contended that this was a policy decision which may not be interfered with by the court. Upon perusing the affidavit, the division bench had noted that it failed to clarify whether the state endorsed such practices or had merely chosen not to eradicate them. HC had also directed home department to file a detailed affidavit clarifying the state's stand on the issue and the steps it proposes to take. In Tuesday's affidavit, filed by home department additional chief secretary Biswanath Sinha, the state clarified that although the proposed legislation has been deferred, the govt has no intention of stepping back from the subject. Chhattisgarh deports 30 undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants
RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh on Tuesday deported 30 Bangladeshi nationals following an ongoing verification exercise in the state, with the individuals being sent back to their homeland. The undocumented Bangladeshi migrants were taken by flight to Guwahati, where they will be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF), a police officer said. After initiating the necessary action and completing the process of deportation, all illegal immigrants will be sent across the border into the neighbouring country. The thirty immigrants found staying 'without valid documents' were traced from the districts of Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon and Raigarh. They were apprehended following intelligence inputs and some complaints received from local inhabitants about the foreigners staying illegally. According to a senior intelligence officer, some Bangladeshis had even procured Indian passports in Chhattisgarh, travelled to their country, and returned to the state. On Tuesday, the issue of Bangladeshi and Rohingya undocumented immigrants was raised by senior BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar in the House, claiming that their strength is consistently on the rise in different districts of the state. Chandrakar claimed that illegal immigrants are accessing the benefits of government schemes after they secured documents illegally on the basis of 'false documentation' and the official machinery failing to enforce stringent regulations.
