Spectators injured as cyclists crash into crowd at German Track Championships
Two spectators had to be airlifted to hospital and a total of seven were injured after the incident, on the final bend of the men's keirin semi-finals, when two riders hit the barriers travelling at around 35mph.
Two helicopters, six ambulances and an emergency doctor were in attendance. The cyclists emerged with minor injuries.
The event was taking place in Dudenhofen, western Germany, and was immediately called off after the incident to allow medical personnel to treat the injured.
German Cycling marketing and communications officer Oliver Streich said abandoning the event was unavoidable
'The health of athletes and spectators always comes first,' he explained. 'Best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to all those injured.'
Chairman of the Dudenhofen Cycling Club, where the event was being staged, Jens Hartwig, said: "I'm shocked by the accident. We've had a cycling festival here in Dudenhofen for five days. Of course, no-one wanted the event to end like this. I wish everyone involved a speedy and full recovery."

Wimbledon suffers another technology malfunction as ball wrongly called a fault
Wimbledon's faltering electronic line calling system suffered another embarrassing malfunction during the men's quarter-final clash between Taylor Fritz and Karen Khachanov. Swedish umpire Louise Azemar-Engzell called 'stop' in the opening game of the fourth set on Court One when 'fault' was incorrectly called after a Fritz forehand landed well inside the baseline. The call of 'fault', rather than 'out', and positioning of the ball suggested the system was still tracking Fritz's serve as opposed to a rally. Azemar-Engzell ordered the point be replayed. Tournament organisers said on Sunday they were confident of avoiding further issues with the technology after a major error in Sonay Kartal's fourth-round defeat to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the women's draw. On that occasion, the new system failed to call 'out' when a shot by Kartal bounced well behind the baseline. Had the call been correct, Pavlyuchenkova would have taken a 5-4 lead in the first set. Umpire Nico Helwerth instead ruled the point should be replayed, with Kartal going on to win the game. However, a major scandal was avoided as the Russian, who accused the official of home bias, battled back to progress. After an investigation, organisers admitted the technology was turned off in error on a section of the court. Britain's leading duo Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu have each complained about the accuracy of the system, which is widely used on the tour but has only just been introduced in SW19. The latest incident is another embarrassment for the Championships, with the All England Club having staunchly defended the innovation amid controversy over the removal of line judges.

Chelsea and Tottenham flop Timo Werner ‘told he will never play for club again' just two weeks after wedding
TIMO WERNER has reportedly been told he won't play for RB Leipzig again after his dismal loan spell at Tottenham came to an end. Werner, 29, is said to have been brought crashing down to earth with the news coming just two weeks after the high of marrying his partner of eight years, Paula. 3 According to German outlet Bild, Werner has been told that he is surplus to requirements at Leipzig and won't be called upon to play for the Bundesliga club again. Werner, who has one year remaining on his £8.6m-per-season contact, is thought to have been told he won't even be used in club friendlies if he chooses to see out his current deal. The forward has reportedly been offered a two-and-a-half year deal with fellow Red Bull owned outfit New York Red Bulls in the MLS. The offer, which would be worth around £3.5m-per-season, is understood to have been rejected by Werner and his camp. Werner hasn't featured for Leipzig since December 2023, spending the last 18 months on loan in the Premier League with Spurs. His time in North London failed to live up to expectations, with the 57-time German International scoring just three times in 41 appearances for Tottenham. Coupled with his previous unsuccessful time with Chelsea, it's no surprise that it's been reported that no Premier League clubs are in for the versatile attacker as things stand. Werner was criticised by former manager Ange Postecoglou while at Tottenham. The Aussie boss slammed Werner's performance in a Europa League clash with Rangers as "unacceptable". Postecoglou said: "He wasn't playing anywhere near the level he should.
