Simulator tests point to possible technical flaw in Ahmedabad Air India crash: Report

More than two weeks after the deadly Air India plane crash that killed all but one of the 242 people on board, investigators and the airline are examining the possibility of a dual engine failure that might have prevented the Boeing 787 from staying airborne, according to a Bloomberg report.
Pilots from the airline recreated the doomed flight's conditions in a simulator, using the same aircraft parameters such as flying with the landing gear deployed and the wing flaps retracted. Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the investigation, that the simulator exercise indicated these settings alone would not have led to a crash.
The report said the simulation was conducted independently of the official probe by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and was carried out to explore potential scenarios.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner that crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12 was powered by two General Electric engines. Video footage of the crash showed the plane struggling to gain altitude after takeoff before falling back to the ground and exploding.
Bloomberg reported that Boeing declined to comment and directed queries to the AAIB. General Electric said it could not comment on an ongoing investigation. The AAIB and Air India did not respond to Bloomberg's requests for comment.

Foxconn recalls Chinese staff from India; Apple's local expansion faces setback

CHENNAI: Foxconn Technology Group, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer best known for assembling Apple's iPhones, has recently recalled several hundred Chinese engineers and technicians from its operations in India. This development marks a significant challenge for Apple's strategic shift to diversify its production base outside of China, especially as it prepares to ramp up manufacturing of the upcoming iPhone 17. According to a Bloomberg report, more than 300 Chinese staff have already exited India, and mostly Taiwanese support personnel remain at Foxconn's Indian sites. While neither Apple nor Foxconn has publicly commented, the recall began quietly about two months ago and is reportedly linked to Beijing's growing restrictions on the transfer of manufacturing know-how and technology to other countries, especially India and Southeast Asia. Chinese authorities have informally urged domestic regulatory bodies to discourage the export of advanced equipment and high-skilled labor in an effort to prevent foreign rivals from becoming viable alternatives to China's manufacturing dominance. This move comes at a particularly sensitive time for Apple. India has rapidly gained ground in Apple's global supply chain, now accounting for nearly 20 percent of iPhone production. Foxconn has played a central role in building up this capability by deploying experienced engineers from China to train Indian staff and help set up local production processes. Their sudden withdrawal is expected to slow the pace of workforce training and reduce the speed of technology transfer, which in turn could raise operational costs and reduce assembly line efficiency. While the production quality is not expected to suffer in the short term due to established procedures and support from Taiwan-based staff, there is a real risk that efficiency and ramp-up timelines may be impacted, particularly for the iPhone 17. Indian government sources cited by Bloomberg say they were informed of the move and are not yet observing major disruptions in production. However, analysts note that the real impact may surface during the critical pre-launch months for new iPhone models when engineering precision and line-speed become vital. Apple has previously emphasised that its preference for China as a manufacturing base goes beyond labor costs, citing the high level of skill and production culture ingrained in Chinese workers. The current geopolitical climate, however, is forcing a recalibration. As tensions between the United States and China escalate — including threats of new tariffs under Donald Trump's potential return to the White House — India and countries like Vietnam have been making a concerted push to attract companies looking to diversify supply chains. India in particular has benefited from this shift, securing large investments from Apple's suppliers including Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron (now Tata Electronics).

Gaurav Taneja, aka Flying Beast, denied a house a day before moving in because owner thinks he committed child abuse

YouTuber Gaurav Taneja, better known as Flying Beast online, revealed that he was denied a house despite having paid the advance for it, because the owner spotted an old news article about him. In 2022, an article that called into question his character was posted online, and after Gaurav filed a lawsuit, the publication in question was directed to take the article down. It made a reference to alleged child abuse, after Gaurav pierced the ears of his elder daughter on camera. The Court ruled that piercing a child's ears doesn't qualify as abuse. More recently, Gaurav was also involved in a controversy surrounding his wife, Ritu Rathee. It was rumoured that the two were headed for a divorce. He said that both these stories still exist online, and can paint him in a negative light. In his latest vlog, he spoke about moving houses, and said, 'Let me tell you about the tragedy that happened with us. Yesterday was supposed to be our last day in this house. But we are still in this house, and we'll probably stay here for four or five more days. Everything has been packed, but the house that we were supposed to move into, they cancelled our deal at the last minute. Everything is packed in the house, but we don't have a place to move.' It sounds insignificant, but imagine. Now we have to look for a new house. Let me tell you what happened. The house was finalised, we'd paid the security deposit. Then, the man we were leasing the house from must have googled me. Somebody forwarded him a link and said, 'This guy is evil, he's been accused of child abuse'. This was the lawsuit that happened a few years ago, when the Delhi High Court told a newspaper to take down an article about me. Articles from that time still exist online, and the guy saw one of them. He refused to give us the house.' Gaurav concluded, mentioning the controversy around his relationship with Ritu, 'Social media is so powerful. Even the divorce controversy that happened, lots of meme pages and paparazzi pages posted stuff about our separation. Those videos were circulated to millions, and it doesn't matter that I made a clarification later, because millions still believe that I'm a bad guy.' Ritu clarified the rumours in a video, and said that nobody has the right to comment on their relationship. Reacting to the rumours, Gaurav had shared on social media, 'I will remain quiet for my kids and the mother of my child. Ready to live with all the negativity and hate for my entire life. Please don't expect any public explanation.' He added, 'Men are made villains very fast. Social media is not a place to discuss family matters. I have nothing to say.'
