In JB, six youths from alleged syndicate claim trial to multiple charges of child sex offences, trafficking, and labour exploitation
The accused — Sham Chee Fei, 33; Kuek Pei Lin, 19; Lee Chun Kit, 28; Tommy Voo Tze Hau, 27; a 17-year-old male; and Abdul Rahufur Rahim Idris, 30 — were brought before two judges for a string of offences.
Sham, Kuek, Lee, Voo and the minor were jointly charged with trafficking a 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy, and a 26-year-old man for labour exploitation by deception.
The trafficking offences allegedly took place at a house on Jalan Lagenda 34, Taman Lagenda Putra in Kulai, between March 23 and May 23.
They were charged under Sections 14 and 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carry sentences of up to life imprisonment, caning, and hefty fines.
Separately, Kuek, Voo, and the juvenile were also charged with attempting to produce child sexual abuse material involving the two teenage victims.
These charges, under Section 5 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, carry up to 30 years' imprisonment and six strokes of the cane.
Abdul Rahufur was charged under Section 15(f) of the same Act for allegedly ordering the teenage girl to perform sexual acts on the teenage boy.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, for the alleged act committed on May 22-23.
Lee was also separately charged with possessing child sexual abuse material — two photos and two videos — found on a mobile phone on June 20.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutors Nur Diyana Zubir and Nur Farah Wahida Shahudin, while multiple defence counsels represented the accused.
Bail ranging from RM6,000 to RM35,000 was granted for each accused, with conditions including monthly police reporting, surrender of passports, and no tampering with witness.
The court set August 13, 14, and 19 for mention and document submission, while Sham, Voo and one M. Nageswaran also face separate charges in Kulai for allegedly causing grievous hurt with a rubber hose.

After Kelantan cops raided HIV outreach, three men fined RM3,000 and RM4,000 for ‘obscene' images and clips found in phones
KOTA BARU, July 20 — Three men were fined by the Magistrates' Court here today for possessing pornographic images and videos on their phones following a police raid during an HIV medical outreach event in June. Harian Metro reported that the court imposed fines of RM3,000 and RM4,000 respectively — or six months' imprisonment in default — on the trio after they pleaded guilty to the charges. 'The accused have repented and promised not to repeat the offence. Their families have also pledged to guide them on the right path,' their lawyer Samantha Chong Yin Xin reportedly told the court. Deputy Public Prosecutors Muhammad Nadzir Abdullah and Nur Haziqah Hassan had urged Magistrate Wan Mohd Izzat Wan Abdullah to impose a deterrent sentence, citing public morality and social norms. The men, aged 22, 27, and 47, were charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code which handles 'sales, etc, or obscene books, etc'. The charge carried a penalty of up to three years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction. A coalition of civil society groups had previously urged Kelantan police to revise their statement on a June 2025 raid of an alleged 'gay sex party' here, which they clarified was in fact a health outreach event. The groups, led by transgender rights advocacy group Justice for Sisters, said media reports following the raid resulted in harmful and stigmatising remarks that have intensified fear among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals seeking health services. The coalition said all attendees tested negative in police-conducted urine tests, and no evidence of sexual activity or promotional content on social media was found. Three individuals were arrested over personal intimate content on their phones, which the groups described as trumped-up charges. On Friday, the MAC confirmed that it conducted a night outreach session here on June 17 under the Differentiated HIV Services for Key Populations model. MAC said the session was in collaboration with Kota Jembal Health Clinic and part of a strategic approach introduced by the Health Ministry. It said the session was held from 8pm to 2am and had reached over 70 high-risk individuals, with services scheduled outside office hours to improve accessibility.

Klang boy, 11, crashes car after taking keys during mum's toilet break
SHAH ALAM, July 20 — The police have traced the owner of a Proton Saga car that went viral on social media after it skidded, believed with an 11-year-old child at the wheel, at Jalan Telok Gong, Klang yesterday. South Klang police chief ACP Ramli Kasa said the police had also traced the young driver and two other children who were passengers in the car when it skidded in the incident, which occurred at about 10 am. He said the 11-year-old child and one of the passengers, aged seven years, are siblings and cardholders of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), while the other child is their Malaysian cousin. "Initial investigations found that the car was (earlier) driven by the mother of two siblings from the Bandar Sultan Suleiman area, North Klang Port, to her sister's house in Telok Gong, Klang. The mother had left the children for a moment to go to the toilet. "When the woman left to go to the toilet, the 11-year-old child took the car keys and brought the younger sibling and a cousin to go to the shop," he said in a statement today. Ramli said the child drove for two kilometres before losing control of the vehicle when approaching the shop area, causing it to skid into a drain on the side of the road. He said no one was injured in the incident and only minor damage was caused to the front of the car. Police have recorded statements from the parents of the child driver and is investigatuing the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is for reckless driving and Section 39(1) of the same law for driving without a licence (underage), as well as the Child Act 2001 to identify any elements of child neglect. — Bernama
