The world's best (and worst) airports revealed in new ranking
But when an airport experience goes sour, whether because of flight delays, unexpected security checks or missing luggage, it is by far one of the most insufferable experiences of mankind (not to be dramatic).
In effort to help passengers avoid the latter, AirHelp, a Germany-based online service that allows passengers to seek compensation for flight cancellations, delays, or overbookings, has released its list of best and worst airports across the globe. The list was crafted by studying and surveying clients' airport experiences, with key factors being on-time flight performance, customer service and available food and retail stores.
The survey spanned airport visits from June 1 2024 to May 31 2025, and incorporates feedback from 13,500 travellers across 58 countries. So, which airports are flying high?
The only European city to make the list is Bergen Flesland Airport in Norway, ranking in ninth place with an AirHelp score of 8.27. Its on-time performance ranked at 8.4, customer opinion at 8.5 and food and retail offering at 7.6.
Doha Hamad Airport in Qatar came in second place with an average score of 8.52, a customer opinion score of 8.9, and a food and retail score of 9.
Championing in first place is Cape Town Airport with an average AirHelp score of 8.57. With a little under 11 million visitors this year, this South African airport received 8.6 for on-time performance, 8.7 for customer service and 8.3 for its food and shopping offerings. Cape Town took first place on Time Out's annual ranking of the best cities in the world to visit in 2025, proving that a visit to the capital is rewarding as soon as you step out of the airport gate.
As for airports to avoid, Tunis Carthage Airport in Tunisia ranked the worst with a score of 5.73. On-time performance score is a weak 5.4, but customer opinions added minimal hope with an extra point at 6.4. As for food and shops, AirHelp gave it a 6.1. Rhodes Diagoras Airport came in second worst with an average score of 6.05, followed by Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh Airport at 6.21.

Self-driving shuttle bus launched in Belfast Harbour
The Harlander shuttle has entered into general service today, with the eight-seater shuttle bus connecting the train station and the Catalyst Campus, just off Queens Road. There is no driver on board the bus, although there is a "safety operator' sitting behind a wheel that turns itself. Belfast Harbour say the goal of the project is to offer 'last mile connectivity' between the train station and the rest of the harbour estate, connecting 'transport networks to businesses, tourist attractions and education and leisure facilities'. During a pilot period between now and September, the bus will be entirely free to use for members of the public. The Harlander was developed by the Harbour along with several other companies, including eVersum, Oxa, Angoka, BT and Horiba Mira. A special right-hand drive version of an electric bus was created specifically for the Harlander service by the Austrian firm Hobira Mira. Oxa are behind the self-driving technology, while safety testing was carried out by Hobira Mira, a Coventry-based company. In May, Belfast Harbour said the vehicle was 'tested to death' by Hobira Mira in order to ensure its safety. Mike Dawson, people and digital transformation director at Belfast Harbour, said: 'Following eight weeks of testing, we are delighted to launch the Harlander to the public to offer last mile connectivity on the Harbour Estate. 'This is a groundbreaking project for Northern Ireland and is a step towards fully driverless transport. 'Belfast Harbour has a strong track record of supporting innovation and this project supports our Smart Port ambitions, utilising cutting-edge technology to support our tenants and the public. 'We're excited to see the public reaction and utilisation of the service.' In May, Mr Dawson described the shuttle as an attempt to 'incentivise' people to use public transport by more seamlessly connecting the train and Catalyst. He described the current loop of four stops as a 'model and a blueprint' that will be used to find what is 'viable for other services'. 'What we'd like to do is have this run, learn from it, particularly the passenger experience and customer experience. 'What does that look like? What does that feel like? What needs to be tweaked, improved? How do you make sure there are no barriers to entry for people to be able to get on and access it?' The Harbour plan for the Harlander to be a first step towards an increasing amount of autonomous vehicles being used in Northern Ireland's transport network. Mr Dawson said that he would 'like to see' self-driving vehicles across the city: 'We would like to see more of these, where you can create connectivity on the estate itself. 'We see this as a much bigger play regionally, not just for Northern Ireland, but also for GB, where you can get connectivity to those main routes. 'Imagine you had estates in the city where you had these types of routes feeding the Glider route. 'It doesn't replace bus drivers, it augments what we have in place today.'

Four African cities have been named best in the world for nightlife
Nightlife takes on lots of different forms, and cities all over the world have adapted to our changing habits when it comes to going out. Today you'll find sober-friendly events collectives alongside vibey cocktail bars and late-night cafes as well as massive, pulsing raves. So, to uncover which cities are the best of the best when it comes to going out after dark in 2025, we quizzed thousands of city-dwellers and consulted a panel of experts to curate a list of the planet's best nightlife cities. Claiming the top spot was Las Vegas, which over recent years has leaned into a more low-key night out, and you can read all about it here. However, four African cities also claimed a spot in our shiny new top 20, and the first of these was Cape Town in number 11, where the 'party scene pulses with grit, glamour, and groove – just ask South African homegrown global stars Tyla and Black Coffee,' according to Time Out Cape Town editor Selene Brophy. And the stats do back up that claim. Seventy-seven percent of Capetonians describe the city as 'good' or 'amazing' when it comes to nightlife, and it also ranks as the third cheapest place on our list for a boogie – even better, eh? Lagos is up next in fourteenth place, where 79 percent of locals rate the nightlife positively. The Nigerian city's nightlife scene is shifting from exclusive lounges to inclusive underground raves such as SweatItOutLagos and Our Group Therapy. Cairo follows closely behind in fifteenth place, where 79 percent of locals approve of the city's nightlife scene and 72 percent describe it as 'cheap or free' or 'affordable'. But while history shows us that Egyptians were big on beer-drinking, the culture here is much more focused around shisha tobacco and caffeine. However, cool cocktail bars have been cropping up in more expat-heavy areas. Lastly, Marrakech comes in at number 19. 'As Marrakech's tourism numbers rise, so do its after-dark offerings,' says Morocco-based writer Sally Kirby, 'The Medina is home to colourful rooftop bars, including El Fenn and Kabana, offering cocktails and majestic views over the Koutoubia Mosque. In Gueliz, you'll find playful lounge bars such as Baromètre, a speakeasy, and The Mix, known for its electric Gnawa nights.'
