IIT Bombay Launches Professional Certificate Programs In Cybersecurity And Software Development
IIT aims to build expertise and real-world job readiness in high-impact domains with the help of this Professional Certificate Programs in Cybersecurity and Software Development.
"We are bridging the critical skill gap our country faces through rigorous, accessible and highly hands-on learning," said Kameswari Chebrolu, Lead Faculty for the programs.
The participants of this program will be able to complete three structured courses delivered by IIT Bombay faculty. Additionally, the industry-aligned curriculum emphasizes weekly hands-on labs designed to closely replicate professional work environments and tools used in leading organizations.
IIT, Bombay claims that India's cybersecurity market expected to surpass USD 10 billion by 2025 and software development powering innovation across sectors, these program prepare learners for high-demand roles, including; Full-Stack Developer, Security Analyst, Security Architect, DevSecOps Engineer, and more.
The applications for both the program are now open and the course is expected to start by September 1, 2025.
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, set up in 1958 as the second IIT, is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of science and engineering education and research. The Institute was granted the status of 'Institution of Eminence' by the Ministry of Education (the then Ministry of Human Resources Development) on July 9, 2018.
The Institute has 17 academic departments, 35 other academic entities (Centres/ Programmes/ Academic facilities/ Hubs/ Externally funded centres and Labs) and three schools. Over the last six decades, more than 75,000 engineers and scientists have graduated from the Institute.

Over 1,300 seats added across five new IITs for 2025–26: Education ministry
New Delhi: Over 1,300 seats have been added across undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and PhD programmes at five third-generation Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for academic year 2025-26, said an education ministry official on Saturday. In the 2025-26 Union Budget, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced 6,500 additional seats for IITs established after 2014. (Representative photo) Of the total 1,364 seats added at IITs in the 2025-26 academic year, IIT Bhilai accounts for the highest share with 378 seats, followed by IIT Dharwad with 343 seats, IIT Jammu with 251 seats, IIT Tirupati with 199 seats, and IIT Palakkad with 193 seats. 'The seats are added in various courses at these IITs in accordance with the demands of the course as shared by the institutions. Approvals have been given for addition of seats for these IITs till 2028-29 in a phased manner,' said a senior official from the education ministry. Among the six new IITs set up between 2015 and 2016—Palakkad, Bhilai, Jammu, Dharwad, Tirupati, and Goa. IIT Goa was excluded from the expansion as it is yet to shift to a permanent campus, contrary to the original plan of all new IITs becoming fully operational within four years of establishment. On May 7, 2025, the Union Cabinet approved the expansion of academic and infrastructure capacity at the five IITs, with a total investment of ₹11,828.79 crore over four years (2025-26 to 2028-29). Over the four academic years from 2025-26 to 2028-29, the five new IITs—Bhilai, Dharwad, Jammu, Palakkad, and Tirupati—will collectively add 6,576 seats. IIT Jammu will add 1,288 seats, IIT Palakkad 1,264, and IIT Tirupati 1,066. According to the expansion plan for 6,576 seats over four years, 1,364 seats have been added in 2025-26, followed by a planned addition of 1,738 seats in 2026-27, 1,767 seats in 2027-28, and 1,707 seats in 2028-29. On completion of the expansion project, these five IITs will enroll 13,687 students against current student strength of 7,111 – an increase of 92.47%. The Union Cabinet had approved the creation of 130 faculty posts in these IITs in May, and recruitment process has started, officials said.

Maharashtra agro corp to set up units to manage farmers' crop surplus
The state-owned Maharashtra Agro Industries Development Corporation (MAIDC) plans to procure mobile processing units to help farmers manage excess production of certain crops by enhancing their shelf life by 12-18 months, an official has said. Oversupply in the market forces farmers to sell their produce, particularly the perishable ones, at throwaway prices or even discard them. The MAIDC initiative aims at ensuring good returns to the growers, said the managing director of the corporation, Mangesh Gondavale. The official said they will procure two machines and deploy them in two districts by the next monsoon season on a pilot basis. Each machine can process 16-18 products and can be customised depending on the region, he said. Processing includes washing, peeling, drying, chopping, slicing and liquefaction. For instance, tomatoes can be converted into puree, while onions can be dried for longer storage. Sometimes, the overall production of a crop in a region becomes high. To ensure that farmers do not incur losses in such a situation, we will introduce two portable processing units, Gondavale said. These machines can be taken directly to farms, saving farmers transportation costs, he said. Each unit can process 150-200 tonnes of produce per day and is equipped for specialised packaging that extends shelf life by 12-18 months, he added. Farmers can then take the product to the market when it is favourable to them. Also, processed crops fetch better prices, said Gondavale. A Rajasthan-based startup founded by an IIT graduate will provide the processing units, each costing about Rs 1.5 crore, Gondavale said. We have done a survey of the types of crops that these units can process. We will use the machines on an experimental basis in two districts by the next Kharif season. We will then propose to the district administrations to procure the units to help farmers in their region, he added.
